Cricket will never go global with ICC and more importantly BCCI who are giving no money to associate / affiliate members. They have a cricket federation in Morocco since 1999 and yet no progress was made, no one in Morocco has heard of cricket let alone play it! Their approach is all wrong, they should go for grassroots / schools and get kids to play and learn the game.

That's right my friend, unfortunately cricket is corrupt to its core - and by core I mean the governing bodies. I think Hasan Minhaj has done a tremendous job in exposing this corruption in this episode of Patriot Act: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qGl4uayvYcvPp7A.html Basically, the BCCI - and to a lesser extent the ECB and Cricket Australia - are a mafia stifling the growth of the sport. The ICC is effectively nothing but a lackey of these three and will do nothing to spread the sport to other countries. That's why 16 teams played in the 2007 World Cup and now it's down to only 10, why cricket will not be at the Olympics etc etc...

I really hate the concept of dividing the teams into associate, affiliate and test playing teams. It's a plane discrimination. One can't actually identify a talent if this sort of discrimination is done. I believe in giving equal opportunities to all teams then only that sport can be expanded well enough.

Agreed. Cricket needs to be in the Olympics. It's vital as a way for smaller Cricket playing countries to get funding for Cricket as many countries won't give funding to any sport unless it is in the Olympics. Also, it's just ridiculous that the 2nd most popular sport in the world is not in the Olympics. And absolutely the ICC needs to expand the number of teams at the WC. Only ten is just ridiculous

At least 18-20 teams must play in all major ICC tournaments may much more teams.

These team should start playing the four - and five - day games to improve their cricket . For instance Netherlands Denmark and Scotland playing in the England four - day first class competition every year until they gain test status . Namibia, Nigeria Uganda Kenya and Tanzania played in South Africa domestic competition every year until they attain test status. Because most of the cricket fans are in South Asia and that's too in India mostly..and they want to earn more revenue from TV broadcast..so they decided to organise that world cup in round robin format not by deviding groups so that India gets 9 match to play.. It is not of much significance with the current state of Cricket globally. As most of the spots will be filled by the regular and established cricket playing nations. It will just put a burden of a 'qualifier tag' on every match that would be played under such a setting. The best shot would be to increase the spots in the main event to give emerging teams more exposure to play and be observed by a global cricket watching audience. A 20 team T20 WC would be ideal with at least 2 or 4 associate teams guaranteed to play against the full members with the remaining ones getting a direct qualification for the next global qualifier event (the latter part has been implemented for the upcoming global qualifier event) and at the same time, increasing the number of teams taking part in the global qualifier event. I know it will certainly come with more costs to bear for the ICC but they must realise that they have to take such steps at some point rather wait for the time when it would be too late!

I can tell you onething from my experience In living in Netherlands for the last 7 years dutch people are tallest in whole Europe and very sporty and have very strong genetics to play cricket. Absolutely true what the old men said more teams from around the world should come like soccer in cricket world cups of the two formats. ICC must take a decision and rules for the benefit of the sports how to expand it.

They are expanding T20 World Cup and will promote T20 format as the flagship for Cricket. There will be 14 to 16 teams participating. You can't do this in ODI because people don't often buy tickets or watch minnows play and that can inflict heavy cost burden, not to mention the time and resources consumed. So, you can expect associate members to take part in T20 WC and many other T20 series that has been planned. They will aggressively promote T20 cricket, you can bet on that.

ICC affirmed that the next edition of T20 WC in Australia in 2020 will have more teams but they have stuck to a 16 team event with a preliminary round and the last time it was played in India with the same format, commentators and others were not even bothered to call it as a part of the main tournament. Its only after the suspension of Zimbabwe and 'Super 12' replacing 'Super 10' that we can see at least one associate team playing against the established sides in the next year's Men's T20 WC. But that isn't enough as these associate teams will still 'have to qualify to play in the Super 12'. It's just like playing one global qualifier event to play again in another mini qualifier event with no guarantee of exposure to established sides.

ICC can you hear! We need at least 20 teams in the 50 over world cup and 24 teams in t20 world cup. I know that icc always wants bigger teams like india and Australia and others to qualify easily for knockout rounds. So why don't you make 4 groups if 5 in 50 overs world cup and 2 best teams from each group qualify for quaters. And 6 groups of 4 in t20 world cup. If this doesn't happen soon cricket will shrink and yeah ICC you may have made it easier for best teams in the world to play knockouts easily by a 10 team world cup( since biggest teams like india and pakistan failed to qualify for super 8s in 2007 world cup) but remember it will only harm cricket.

Odis and T20s are okay but if we go about expanding the test teams it will make it less competitive. Records won't mean anything . There should be a minimum standard for playing test cricket. The T20i status to all members is a welcome step though.

I specially want Netherlands to be the next test side along with Scotland, as they are old associate nations. But fact is their progress is very slow. May be lack of popularity and interest in their country about cricket than other sports. Hope for the best.

If you look at dutch sporting culture in other games they are most genetically gifted players in Europe they are extremely tall agile and great stamina. To be honest they will be powerhouse of cricket if money start flowing in in Netherlands.

The ICC restricted the game so much to few countries the ICC should call themselves the International Cricket Clique

*ICC is reluctant..I remember all WC since 2003 there were new and different teams but the point these teams were not competitive enough..if these guys gets tougher like Afghanistan and Ireland I think no body can stop any team... ICC don't wanna rely only on India its dangerous and bad for the game..sadly there is no other nation turning up for the Cricket..ICC is helpless*

Kenya got into semis in 2003, Ireland upsets Pak in 2007. We won't see these things with such less teams

And im not love to one particular team, but i love to cricket, im cricket lover, i want to see good cricket and

Definitely agree with what the two elderly gentlemen said towards the end! The ICC wants to limit cricket now and restrict it to certain nations. It doesn't want it to expand and the sport to flourish. There was a chance for cricket to become an olympic sport too. But the BCCI intervened and this amazing opportunity which would have lead to a massive growth in cricket was trampled

Agreed. It's not just with the Netherlands that caused upsets in the world cups. Kenya too was a great team them which made its way to semi-finals in 2003 wc but they lost faith in ICC as couldn't come into that test club, Ireland which was then not a part of test playing nations played 3 world cup still managed to cause upsets by defeating Pakistan, England, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and west indies yet Irish team had to wait for 12 years to get into that test club. Afghanistan and Bangladesh got into that club quite quickly. I really feel icc's decision are quite Asian centric when they are supposed to spread cricket all over the world and take care of the sport if it's undergoing any problem. The worst part was this world cup 2019 which is nothing but a joke consisted only 10 teams

The reason why the World Cup has been reduced to 10 teams is because a minority of people complained that the tournament went on for too long. The way it should be is that the current 12 test teams should qualify automatically then the associate teams qualify for the remaining 2-4 places so altogether you will have 14-16 teams.

Why don't ICC organise continental championship games i.e Asian championship, African cricket championship, European cricket championship, Oceania cricket championship, North/South American cricket championship where every ICC member of that particular continent can play and top 3 teams from every championship will get a get slot in the world cup thus it will be more competitive and this will also give a major boost to the popularity of cricket....

Not just associate country, it's disappointing to me as well and to many Cricket fans as well, in from India, I oppose reduction of world Cup. I'm happy with the recent decision to expand, 14 is less but better than 10, hope it further expands, as For T20 in happy, 20 is a good number and the format I wanted it to be 5 teams 4 groups

Japan,Uae,Thailand, hongkong,china from Asia Kenya, Cameroon from Africa Brazil,USA,CANADA from AMERICA NETHERLAND, GERMANY from Europe should be immediately added to worldcup It will be interesting to watch real world cup

Namibia and Uganda have very good teams from Africa. Plus Papua New Guinea is very strong from Asia Pacific as well.

we need 32 teams playing cricket at international level by 2050 .. the sport has t oreach every part of society across the globe .. and bring more talent to the forefront.. we cant let greed ruin the sport.. bcci should at least try and groom 4 teams to icc international level ..

Man now this NETHERLANDS are competing with Ireland, Srilanka, Zimbabwe, Afganistan, Bangladesh Even South Africa😮
