I think what should happen, is to do the same thing, as the severe damage "update". Open up a dev server, see if people like the changes or not, and the players can vote whether it's good or not. I'm curious how this change would look like.

Does Gaijin model the crewmember as one whole hitbox, where the fragment would do the same damage if it hit the foot OR the head? If so, could they not literally just more specifically model them? One frag to the head is a one hit KO but it might take 4+ to the leg or whatever

@dadistos4538 They maybe planing to add more detailed crew damage models eventually since the Mobile Infinity event last year had the Infantries bodies split into segments with headshots typically being one-hit kills when their helmets were penetrated.

Def prefer option 1. For the optics, I think something that can be done for tanks that already lack NVD or thermals is to either prevent them from zooming in fully, and or implement a crack model on the optic that is kind there to get in your way while your trying to aim, but doesn't necessarily prevent the player from retaliating As for crew healing, I think the best way to implement that would be to make the crew replenishment modification not only replace a dead crewmember, but also heal any injured crewmembers, that way it doesn't change players gameplay in any significant ways, while also making that modification useful for vehicles with 2 or less crewmembers by default.

I like this for option 1, I think additionally they should remove gunners sights from remote turret vehicles when you destroy the optic, as it’s literally the only way they can aim them

Everyone balling when they think smoke grenades in the fighting compartment are death traps... until they realise they were stored in wet bins and their main nation drived around with large fuel tanks in their crew compartment for 50 years...

What does "large fuel tanks in their crew compartment" even mean? Every armoured vehicle has to put their fuel tanks *somewhere* in the vehicle - whether you consider them "inside the crew compartment" seems to be semantics at best. How much armour does there have to be between the fuel and the crew for the tanks to be considered "outside" the crew compartment? 5mm? 10mm? 20mm? When you consider that most IFVs don't even have 20mm of armour protection between the crew and the *outside* of the tank, saying that the fuel tank is "inside" or "outside" the crew compartment seems totally arbitrary to me, especially seeing as any semi-modern HEAT/APFSDS round is going to adjust the layout of the vehicle without much difficulty.

When a 5mm fuel tank ruptures and immediately douses the driver, the floor of the entire crew compartment and the lower ammo with highly flammable liquid with lots of sparks hitting it at the same time... setting everything alight in the tank and cooking off the ammo... turning the barrel into a choo choo train and then the turret into a rocket ship. As opposed to a 20mm+ fuel tank located in/or on the engine compartment, or attached on the sides outside, separated by main armour and flame proof asbestos. (so TWO layers of metal and flame proof material between the fuel and the crew) I love history... not even a god can rewrite it. Especially when you can turn on a telly and see it happening in real time today... Choo Choo.

Here's a novel idea, a radial menu for prioritizing repairing. Engine, track, breech and vertical is out? Radial up to focus repairing the breach first with an automatic rotation of priorities upon completion. Track and gun is out but you're in the middle of a field and need to get to cover? radial right to focus track first so you can dip faster.

That's not how it works in wt the repairs repair everything in the compartment but a track is faster to repair than an engine so it repairs first

Option 1 since then they will have to module those modules correctly and give us better idea where the composite armour in tanks begins and ends

i would love to see that beacuse i always loved really nicely simulated damage model. Like DCS damage models like for example: when you get hit in the eletronics the whole HUD just shifts of start blinking etc... making it really hard to stay efficient even with this "non critical" damage.

I like these options, only thing else I wish they would add is ammunition resupply in the spawn zone. Kinda sucks to run out of ammo in a battle and cannot reach a cap safely
I think the gun sight damage are definitely necessary. Tho if even the MG can damage it (which is true irl), it might be too big of a game changer for players. And for the matter of crew damage. I think if after J out there's a chance(depends on situation) your crew can escape back to spawn alive and take another tank(same tank with all the remaining crews and cost a lot fewer sp). It can encourage enemy bail out early just like irl, Making scoring a vehicle kill easier, and also encourage players respawn more instead of leave the game

I like the idea of bailing out but it should also give u a free backup because all those Turms and Panzerbatallion players are newbies that dont habe many backups at all so this change wouldnt do anything to help with the 1-death-leaver problem

I think a logical change they can make is if you fire and hit an optic it will knock out that veiw option to you. Example: i hit the gunners optic on a tank the other player can nolonger use gunner scope to fire. If the press shift to change to that veiw they will see black or a blurred damaged veiw. No thermal or nvm and no sight until repaired. Commander sight will be more useful as a backup in this case and if they lose that sight too then they can only veiw and fire in 3rd person which can make longer range shots more difficult. Potentially hitting driver sight could cause the vehicle to drive slower or reduce responds time between your controls and the vehicle responding to them ( simulating commander guiding the blind driver). These can make blinding tactings viable in game.

Another thing I'd love to see that will probably never get done is having dismounts for ifvs. These vehicles are designed around supporting an infantry squad after all. If you were able to drop your fire team give them commands to move to a cap point and cap it at a slower rate than a normal vehicle and give automatic scouting abilities to host vehicles only and are able to fire at other dismounted recon teams it could add to game play making ifvs more versatile and give another means for regular tanks to gain sl and rp. Could even give them short range anti tank launchers like the LAW or rpg18 so you can send a team using the map to an area you know a tank is camping at that is out of your means to reach without getting destroyed or to send them to guard flanks that are known areas that tanks sit at early game for spawn camping. There's a lot you can do with that and it would be fun to see were you could go with that. It would also open the door to slot of other vehicles that aren't viable for the game in its current iteration.

Best option in my opinion for damage is 1, yah they will have to add new modules, it will take time to do for all tanks, but i think this way would lay foundation for better future of damage model and improving things for future to more advance things.
I definitely prefer the 1st option, but they should prioritize fixing kinetic penetrators. Them messing thise up is the actual root cause of all this. Maybe add internal spall ricochet? Even just spalling from a shell hitting/exiting the opposite armor to where it penetrates (which is a real thing), creating a sort of double cone inside the vehicle.

I feel like the second stun option will lead to a new Crew Memeber stat akin to like battle experience/hardness or like stun resistantance that you'll have to train up and spend money to ACE

Little off everything would be best like the detailed modules + turret have chance to starts rotating in random direction after gunner is out or the tank have chance to start driving in random direction after driver is out... and the multiple fire souces would be nice too... but yeah i get it its a lot off work :D
They need to make crew health have buffs and debuff due to health status. If they added 2-3 medical kits within the tank, the crew can be healed. I think if they did it to where a yellow crew for example would have slight debuffs on there specific skill sets, like a loader would get it’s reload speed changed or a gunners targeting speed. Idk or they could do it to were the crew members themselves have their own damage model depending on what and where they got hit so like legs, torso, arms, head, etc. Maybe even a bleeding mechanic on the crew where if not treated would cause them to bleed out, and maybe they could add equipment for the crew themselves like better protective gear or something along the means of that. For damaging modules it would be nice to see Gaijin implement it so where destroying optic, gunners optic, commander sight optics would make you not be able to use thermals or maybe a rangefinder, target tracking. Also they did say in the 2024 roadmap they wanted to add realistic optics to tank, so for more modern tank with backup sight it would be cool to see that be added as well. Tanks with a loading system could have the chance to jam or misfire. They could also add battery systems to vehicle where all electronics would not work. Also Gaijin can finally add APUs to tanks that have them so you can use certain systems while your engine is off. Begin able to damage fire control systems, and even fire suppressions systems, then could even add the ability to manually put out the fire with a handheld fire extinguisher. For some response if you have a fire in game you lose the ability to control your tank which shouldn’t happen if it’s an automated fire suppression system not an actual person in the vehicle doing it. Damaged ammo could be discarded or unusable if it’s at a red state so you can have the ability to reduce ammo detonations. Or things like MGs would jam if damaged, to much sustained fire will over heat. Also all this should be transferred to other vehicles as well not just tanks. Planes for sure and maybe ships too.

I think all of these options are terrible, the last one isn't bad but still not great. I feel like the first one is allowing people to take poor shots and still come out on top, by the time you're at top tier it's probably a given where you should shoot other players in order to successfully kill them in one shot. The second one is of the main reasons that world of tanks's player base on NA tanked so badly.

@@ssuuss539 I get it and it's honeslty the only viable option out of the three, but in a game where they're now making up values for armor schemes I feel like giving more ways to disable a vehicles without aiming for a certain spot is pretty counter-intuitive.
People are worried about the concussion mechanic meanwhile I'm worried about the extra fires mechanic. Fires are one of the most annoying mechanics in the game it completely resets your repair timer and resets reloading now people want to make fires even more common. Cant want to die because a candy bar wrapper my commander threw in the crew compartment of my Bradley caught on fire and reset my breech repair back to 20 seconds when I was 2 seconds away from finishing

Mainly because those tanks have a decent amount of dead space, so if you don't hit the exact spot needed to kill you probably won't. Russian tanks are MUCH smaller and if you pen the tank it's very likely a one shot Also, a way to balance this mainly harming NATO tanks, the autoloader should become a component that can be damaged/destroyed(France and Japan mains in SHAMBLES). This could work by slowing down the autoloader by 20 percent when orange, and 30 or 40 percent when red, with it either entirely breaking down and stopping when black or slowing by anywhere from 60 to 90 percent. (The reason I'm saying when orange and not yellow is that most of the time when things turn yellow they don't really lose effectiveness. Or just implement a 10 percent slowdown in autoloader when yellow)

Trust me, Russian tanks will be least affected by any potential changes. Wait till a Russian shell bounces off an Abram’s but causes the loader to drop the shell and have to start loading all over again, while Russian auto loaders are untouchable.

When they say "APC" in this context, as I understand, it stands for "Armored Personnal Carrier" so I think it's not the munition (APCR) they are talking about but the vehicle category instead. I could be wrong about this but this is how I understand it.

Yeah, having stuff thrown around the screen and losing control of the cursor would be infuriating.
This needs to be implemented correctly and delicately. That means they absolutely need to listen to the community and if they want to go through with it, up armor the vehicles that are receiving this “test” mechanic. A whole revamp of armor and modules, and vehicle models
Personally id say yes to the stun and shock thing because it makes more sense although I’m not sure how severe it will affect gameplay.
Nice video Justin! Some of these new mechanics seem interesting but I wish they would work on their existing mechanics that are flawed rather than implementing new ones.
What about more capture points and being able to spawn from capture points?
As a not so new player that came back to actually dive deep finally into war thunder. I find cool how the include the community in these choices.
i like that RB is "realistic" and adding more realism only enhances that gameplay. if you want arcade like gameplay you have standard battle or if its really your thing .... world of tanks also, the idea that a calibre thats too small to pen a bigger tanks can ring its bell long enough to get to safety is a good thing
There should be a heal mechanics for ground. Air and helicopters get to repair fully. If you are pushing the caps you should be rewarded better.
I really hope the ”crew healing” mechanic only applies to the wounded ones and not the ones that are fully killed.

I have the wolf pack & its infuriating that chained wheels doesn't add anything towards traction, instead its only a cosmetic like what!?
Since they've made T-80 and T-72 tanks easier to blow up with 'improved damage,' why not make the Abama tanks unable to reload while driving fast or if they stop suddenly, causing the crew member to die with a shell in hand? Additionally, receiving any damage should slow down the reload speed, except for T-80 and similar tanks that have an auto-reload feature. Let's make the game more realistic.
My take on healing was and remains : if you go out of your way to sit on a cap point for like 20 sec without moving, the crew replenishment should not be a single crew member but a full fresh crew coming to relieve of duty the current one. You get that one extra crew per spawn, you have to plan for it but you get a fully fresh one. No healing in the background (like, Johnny over there has its leg shredded by shrapnel from the armor spalling, no medkit is gonna fix that... And I know it's a game but that's way too World of Tankish). Your crew is hurt : that's too bad. But you get that one opportunity for a fully fresh one. And yes : FPE should replenish the same as everything else (ammo, smoke, hard-kill, ...) Basically you make it to a cap point. You survive there long enough. You're fully restocked and get ONE fresh crew per tank.
they literally said m1 and leopards will get the feature first, making soviets op just like how m1 leopards dont have spall liners like how soviet tanks have an extra unmodeled spall liner which is a cheat modifier that reduces spalling amount up to %100 on some tanks like how their era provides 200mm kinetic protection + 50 before reacting total of 250 kinetic protection soviet tanks are already biased op, cannot be pened from front, adding concussion will make any chance of fighting back

just use heat. idk. i only use sabot when im playing britian or fighting vics wirh kontact5/relict. only times i use sabot.
For light tanks, just fix the damage model as apcbc should shrapnel if fuse sensitivity is reached yet 90% of the time it doesn’t fuse just going through…. No new mechanism needed, just fix the current broken mechanism.
If you havent played the alphajet yet as cas, you absolutely need to. 4 500lbers and 76 snebs, ccip, great flight performance. Only problem is france 8.7 ground is kinda dookie.
First shot advantage should be promoted. On the US side of things, seeing my dart pen but do no real damage and maybe kill one crew is annoying, yet most other people can one shot me hilariously often. If I'm getting the first shot off due to positioning, something the Abrams the relies on, that should be a death sentence to most tanks I shoot at. Allowing the first shooter the follow-up shot would promote strategic gameplay.
I'm glad they're looking at new ways to give even more depth to the game. I'm all for new game innovation. Just praying they get it right.
We need regenerative steering more than this.
My favorite is definitely the 2nd option. I'm worried the first option will furthermore introduce imbalance to vehicles when Gaijin selectively choose sekret document to increase/decrease certain vehicles efficiency by adding internal modules . 3rd is gonna be terrible when every shot you take, you just take DoT damage with no way to stop it. 2nd option will introduce a new mechanic which solving the problem, being immersive. Getting the first shot off should always give you the advantage imo.
What truely matters is the way modules of all kinds recieve damage. . . A single piece of shrapnel tickled the tippy tippy tip of your engine? Dead motor

I'd like to see optic damage matter, electrical systems damage and hydraulic damage, that all makes perfect sense to me. The stun effects, no. Maybe add it for more realistic purposes in Sim mode and test it out there.
And yet today I was hit in the barrel and one singular fragmentation caused my entire crew to be knocked out.
Something that always bothered me with the game is the fact that when your in a electric turret drive Tank and your gunner is injured the turret rotation speed is lowered , makes absolutly no sense i agree with it when it comes to manually driven turrets but electric ones ? No get rid of it , also if they want to make shells do more damage , 1. Stop the fact that when your shell is going through a crew member he eats all of the spalling (And also crew members should only get injured by either spalling or fire and not be able to survive when directly it with something bigger then a 20mm , looking at you enemy crew members that can take a direct impact 40mm AP Shell and survive) , 2. For the Love of God Fix Volumetric it's a nightmare , imma tell you a little story that happened to me to prove my point : I was playing a 11.7 game on Japan it was the end of the game we crushed the enemy team to their spawn and a guy decided to spawn a panther , I SWEAR i shot him 3 times in a row in the mantlet with the Leclerc Best Shell and it did NOTHING!! It simply ate it , had to resolve myself to shoot him in the upper front plate... And 3. Just make all solid shot E.I : APFSDS/APCBC/APCR etc.. do more spalling , 30mm APHE does more damage than top tier APFSDS...
Damage models are Something that gajin has to fix but that's just the top of the iceberg

Welp, that's more reason for me to stick to air and grind out the Russian air tree with my MiG-23ML and just stop trying to spade my SEP/unlock my SEPv2 Might as well also implement concussion when vehicles take strong, non-penetrating hits if they're going to do this.

im still waiting for a glass crack effect when your main gunsight is broken (blackened) so deter your vision a bit and one of the most requested heli damage model, ive seen heli's being opened and those things are filled with electronics to the brim, if those get hit something should be disabled at least seriously im tired of heli's especially KAs survive a close proxy from a gigantic SAM and still functions normally and offs half of your team before your next missile do a "hit" again personally stun effect is nice but pls not the random aiming deviation (just stun me that's more than enough)
having concussing effect for the camera in the game would sound kind of cool... this might also help be a reason for gajin to add the Chinese laser dazzling system on the ztz99s
what nobody really realizes yet is that when the updates the damage model for Challenger 2 they already implemented this some of these changes; specifically the turret drive changes and uhh, they kinda need some refining: the horizontal turret drive sticks out through the spall liner in the left turret cheek, meaning you don't even have to fully pen the turret to disable the horizontal anymore. To clarify: I'm a huge fan of the more realistic changes, the good and the bad they may bring, but I understand that everyone is not me and for a lot of people the realism does not out way the fact that it's a nerf to MBT's. Leo 2 and Abrams be warned o~0 Edit: I don't like the stun mechanics though and the sparks just seem really childish.
Module damage? Bradely booley YAS. Ironically though added modules will have the most impact on light armor, and especially on roomier ones like the PUMA or Class 3(P). But hey, T-90 turret go BRRRRR.

I kind of like the stun idea, but not it moving the aim randomly. That sounds dumb, especially on vehicles with slow manual drives.

The concussion mechanic would alleviate the pet peeve of mine, that is, if you can pen your target from the front, it's better to pen it from the front than side. Because it will yield way more post pen damage. And when you hit the side, and you miss or don't destroy crewman or module, it feels like shit. Yes, this applies mostly to stuff like AP or APDS, with no filler, but imagine how much better the finless rounds, like M329 and its ilk, would be. I votes yes on everything.

So glad to see two of three having been voted against. They’re all terrible but at least two won’t be coming. No stun effects, no extra fire. Unfortunately, people are still voting for a nerf to M1’s and Leopards which is disappointing.
I feel like some of the changes will have more of an adverse impact on NATO tanks, particularly the Leopard IIs. I tend to get a lot of scenarios where my penetrating shot just passes through a Leopard II without causing major damage, and they proceed to turn their turret an one shot me. I personally would welcome the change, I would also go to suggest that a wounded loader should have a slower reload rate, and perhaps after firing multiple shots will tire out the loader and also slow the reload rate. They are humans after all, they shouldn't be consistently pumping out rounds at exactly the same rate. At the moment human loaders are almost entirely superior to auto-loaders IMO, since they literally extend the health of your tank; for example Leopard IIs often take multiple shots to kill.
Need a severe damage style for tanks destroyed 3/5 crewmembers of a tank but some other guy shot him once and i got an assist i did most of the work i lost my wager because of that
First things first: model additional ways to disable NATO vehicles :) Shocking. Why would they change M1 and Leopard first I wonder?
Personally I find a lot of these type of changes generally come with a ton of incredibly annoying bugs and add a lot of irritating moments.

Honestly been experiencing something like this in RB where I take a hit, engine, fuel, or, radiator damage but untouched crew and turret control and I just can't control my tank until I repair the parts.

@@tibnex5122 for me the gunner dies way after I got hit. So if my engine goes out bcs of the same shot, I will star repairing my engine and AFTER that the gunner stubbs his toe and bites the dust. Nothing is burning and it just adds to the time I'm sitting there without gunner.

I'm not sure I support any of these changes without an armor rework. A common complaint is that passed a certain point it does not feel like you're in a tank. Maybe reduce how weak a weakspot is. Right now, the only real measure of higher tier tank's survivability is crew placement, which won't matter with the changes. It turns the game into even more of a twitch shooter, whoever can flick first, wins. Unpopular opinion, maybe the guns across the board are too accurate. I doubt the Abrams, for example, would have ever made it into service if every shot, 100% of the time, went through Warthunder's massive weakspot. so there must be a reason why it's still being used if the weakspot is "realistic". My only thought is that in the real world that weakspot is much less likely to be hit. If you're going to make somethings defense realistic, the only true balance is also making a tanks offense realistic. EDIT: I'm also confused about the push to make shrapneling shells effective against light tanks. If there's not enough armor to cause shrapnel, then there's not enough armor to cause shrapnel. To my knowledge, every tank has access to a light vehicle's counter in the form of HE.

If they test this shit like they test all their updates we can savely say the game will be unplayable for a couple of weeks. Gajin tends to overcomplicate mechanics without finishing implementing or fixing the old ones.

I think the fire change might be good. The amount of times my shot just sets someone on fire but they are still perfectly operational and then 1 shot me is insane

These changes especially the stun related ones are terrible, i like how the game is right regarding these changes. I DO NOT want warthunder to become more simulator themed. I agree with other comments gaijin needs to fix current issues within the game and not contiually add new features.

Gaijin will do anything just not to balance the game. Anything to create appearance of hard work.
I like the idea of the second way it does add that extra bit of immersion gameplay and of course realistic shock from a shell penetration. I just like the first way better. Plus it gives even more detailed models of our favorite vehicles.
Healing ground crew is going to be another pay to win crew mechanic
If more modules are being added then I want fucking autoloaders modeled they take up literally half the tanks internal volume and should be rendered useless with damn near every single penetrating shot especially that Russian garbage

Besides the crew healing mechanic which is an awesome one the other ones suggested are absolute crap and will make the game worse so I hope people better get their stuff together and vote no on them, this game can be quite a pain in the butt as is and the last we all need is for it to get even worse.
Or perhaps the community could grow an extra braincell and learn to aim or just load a few HE rounds for light vehicles???

It's a community vote. The popular decisions win. "Just load HE" yeah tanks have armor, trying to kill a leopard 2a7, strv122, Leclerc with the perfect ufp armor vs HE, challenger 2s good damn luck. Sure you are going to aim at a miniscule optic on the roof with HE before that tank fires an apfsds 1600-1800m/s

@@spray916having an HE shell preloaded isn’t exactly viable. The first shot you fire on a light vehicle will almost always be APFSDS. That’s the issue
i'd agree with more fire on the condition that we can replenish extinguisher on caps, new modules will be a nightmare for repair time you can already have repair times exceeding a minute, if they add more modules are we gonna spend 2 minutes repairing ? and imagine, 2 minutes without a breech or tube... might as well leave the match people voting yes to add more modules are brain damaged individuals. my answers were 1. no 2. no 3. no 4. yes
