Crew Review: Francis Francis X7.1 iper Espresso Machine

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

We decided to take on illy's approach to capsule espresso! Their new X7.1 model has the case design and overall features of the previous pod and capsule versions but is made specifically for their iperespresso capsules. Watch Gail take us through its situation and then make a latte.

This video is incorrect. The X7.1 is time output programmable. You hold down the dispense button for as long as you want and that programs the dose for the next shots.

It's really about preservation; they perform a nitrogen flush that forces all oxygen out of the can and extends the overall life of the coffee because, ultimately, coffee ages by exposure to oxygen. This is what the large majority of big roasters do, otherwise their coffee would expire within weeks and that's not scalable. While this is still a capsule machine, it's a relatively great shot and very convenient ... if that's your bag - Kat

Thanks for the tip, i havent found the steam purge tip in the manual. Francis had nearly the same model, x7 with a portafilter for ground coffe and ESE pads. I tried to hunt it down somewhere but it seems its not sold anymore. Sad, now i have to refill the caps, which works nice too. But i would prefer a real portafilter. Do you have any information if the ground x7 is still available ?

Great expresso machine. Just got mine two days ago. Ordered it off of Amazon on Oct. 31 and got it the very next day without using Prime. I have to say if you going to make a cappuccino or latte it is best to make the expresso first. Then use the stream wand. It works wonders. I say expresso first since the cool down process is very long. By time the machine is cooled down your milk wont be as hot as you would like. So expresso first milk second and everything will be awesome. I highly recommend this machine for anyone first getting into expresso making. Also since it uses the capsule system it very straight forward and very easy clean up. I myself plan on moving up to the Ascaso Dream which is more for intermediate to expert expresso users. In the end for $250 for this machine that includes 4 tins of expresso that carry 21 capsules and 2 expresso cups, 2 cappuccino cups, and 2 saucers for each set of cups on Amazon is a amazing deal. Once again great expresso machine by illy.

I need to correct myself. I didnt do the cool down process properly. After watching this video again I forgot to do one thing. After the milk you hit the big cup button. Little cup turns yellow. Then hit and hold the big steam button for 3 seconds. This will cool down the machine rapidly. So it was my mistake in my previous comment. So with that correction the machine is amazing.

Illy is giving away this machine if you commit to buying 36 boxes of coffee... at 21 caps... subtract the cost of machine... get about 57 cents a shot.

Would be nice to know the water temperature in the cup. The button says 80 celsius which is 176 degrees but is that the actual temp? Nespresso cup temp is around 150 degrees in my machine. How well does the steam wand do it's job...anywhere close to a pro level machine? Are the capsules recyclable?

I’ve heard several comments about illy machines dying too soon. I’m looking at this vs a Nespresso equivalent. I have a manual machine and love the idea of capsules. Where would you rate this in terms of value, espresso quality, crema, etc? thank you and Love this channel!

Think this is the one for me! Although my other half is an Italian barista so I am not sure if the X7.1 will cut the mustard for him. I really do like the design of the X7. I also love the Y1.1 but would have to buy a separate milk frother (I can hear him saying now, ''frother''! ''Are you kidding me''!) Not sure how you ladies feel about the quality of the cream from a frother vs steam? I think that the X7.1 will work for us both as he likes espresso and I like a beautiful cappuccino.

Is he going to want to grind and tamp? If he is then he's not going to love these machines. But if you two want something easy that still tastes great, then these are great choices. I prefer the steam wand because you can produce microfoam for latte-quality milk. The only issue water-wise that we've seen is the connection in the water tank; sometimes, the gasket can pop off there but then you can get them to replace it. Let me know if you have any more questions :) - Kat

I must say, I've owned several illy machines never the x1, but The first one I had was the x7, and most currently the x5... While I agree the design can not be beat (not for everyone), I personally prefer the ability to grind and dose my own coffee vs. iper or ese. Illy machines are a solid choice for those looking for a reliable decent shot although I've never tasted the iperespresso.., my next machine choice will be something a bit more high end, thinking either the rocket or rancilio.

I was under the impression that one of the big advantages of Nespresso is they control the freshness of the coffee by not having the capsules sit on a shelf in a store for a year before it sold. When I think of illy of cans of coffee, I presume that the beans are roasted in spumoni land, shipped on a slow boat to ERRRmareEEca, Pre-Aged in a warehouse and then released to retailers for it final aging. I am sure urs is freshest but most retailers the stuff is over aged. Or not

+Chris Coles Hello! If you are wanting just a classic cup of coffee, this machine is the one we would recommend: www.seattlecoffeegear.com/francis-francis-y5-duo-iperespresso-and-iper-coffee-capsule-machine This machine allows you to brew more of a drip coffee, while the other ones you mentioned are more designed for a shot of espresso. Cheers!

Review slightly incorrect. You can actually program the dose by keeping the dosing button depressed. When you have enough you can release the button. Or, as it says, you can stop the dose by pressing the dose button again at any time. Just bought this machine because my aeg amodo broke (3rd machine). Very consistent espresso which is the norm for pods. The only thing I struggle with is the steam wand. It introduces too much air into the milk, so the texture is all wrong. That's why when she poured the milk, it kind of glooped into the cup. You won't get a silk smooth cappuccino like a traditional steam wand. Having said that, if you have never textured milk before, you'll love this as you don't need any skill to use it. Using a porta filter (the handle), is by far the best way to use a pod. You throw it straight into the bin. Most pod machines prefer to catch the pod and store it in some kind if internal waste bin which is something else you have to clean out.

I think by dose we mean the amount of coffee. You can certainly control the volume of the water, but adding more can dilute the espresso. - Steven

I got one of these for free and it's......okay. It feels extremely cheap, and plasticy. Even the buttons feel like they need to be pressed firmly right in the middle. The only part that feels solid is the portafilter which is ironic since it's just for show given that the capsule goes right through it. The milk frother is very airy as you see in the video with no way to do a finer froth. I understand and realize this is an automatic machine designed to make an automatic cup with minimal user interaction at a low price point. Though I feel the people in the market for this kind of machine would be better off with a Nespresso. Similar prices with better build quality and more options.

I roast my own coffee so I had to send to China for refillable capsules through Amazon, and a special 30mm tamper. To make a double shot you need another capsule...very annoying to refill. I have the Ranciio frothing tip conversion on my machine. $299.00 to $149 on Amazon or Ebay. It is Programmable, and the self filled capsules do not stop automatically-I needed to program the fill.

I just have to say, i watch a lot of what you do, and you’ve generally been on point. But i just lost all confidence after watching this video. It’s like y’all got stoned and are just making stuff up that sounds good. 2 major points. There is not a predetermined amount of water that flushed the steam wand to cool it down. It pumps water through it until it’s cool. If it say there for a few minutes it would take less water/time to cool. And this machine is 100% programmable. But there is a limit to how short you can pour. You can’t pour less than a doppio. These are major points?! It makes me question everything I’ve watched you guys do and I definitely can’t watch any more. SMH
