It was nice to see the smiles on their faces at the end , but it does seem like they put a whole lot of hard work and time in pretty dangerous working condition for that amount of reward to be divided 10 ways. I think it would be well worth the risk if that was about the amount of gold they retrieved every clean-up or so. The program producers must be paying them well above whatever gold they mined for their efforts.

Most don't get rich from gold mining and looking in from someone watching who hasn't done mining its hard to understand the motivation. I am a hobby miner myself and I know exactly how Dustin and crew feel. See it's not about the gold itself it's the adrenaline rush and adventure of being out there hunting for it. Then when you make a score like they did only truly then can you understand what gold fever really is. But you did hit on one thing important to go mining is very expensive and you don't go unless you have what is referred to as a grub stake. This show and its production is what allow Dustin and the crew to afford this adventure. So the show provides the grubstake that makes their operations possible. The show then if successful makes money off of selling the production through investors and sponsorship. The higher the show rating the more money comes in by sponsers and investors. So as long as the show is successful Dustin and crew will continue to be grub staked for more seasons.

@@kenjett2434 Great points. making a bit over100k for the season with a crew of 8-10 people is nothing. After operating costs what would be the take home? It would be well below 10k. If each of them had a job making average income their totals would be over 400k. But doing it with Discovery covering all the costs and everyone getting paid for appearing on the show, makes the adventure so much fun. If you had everything on the line with no support you would be broke in this operation.

She's upside down in a hole approximately 3 to 4 ft across at the top with boulders that could come loose on her at any moment. She punched a hole all the way to the bottom. The only way you can keep dredging is to start again at the top and widen the hole. They could work another good 6 to 10 hours moving boulders. If they are lucky and the whole thing doesn't collapse they still may not expose more bedrock.

"It's combined worth is more than ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS," says the narrator in his most dramatic voice. Let's see: $100k, after deducting expenses and royalties, split 8 ways, over five months, leaves each crew member with a debt of about $1,500 per month for the privilege of the experience, not to mention what they may owe back home that didn't get paid. One needs the income from a reality show, or to be independently wealthy, to be a successful miner at this scale. "What do you intend to do now that you've won the lottery?" a reporter asked the farmer. "I intend on continuing to farm until the money's all gone."

Companies like Catepillar offer huge equipment rebates for advertising. Also understand that each cast member has to be part of the actor's union. If they appear on camera they get paid union wage. No if, and, buts, about it. You pick your nose on camera, Discovery Channel has to pay the actor's union. I'm sure Discovery Channel gets paid by Alaskan Tourism, whatever airlines they use, whatever helicopter company they use, and snowmobile company they use. Tony just said he buys a new truck each year. I forgot to see what brand he buys but I'm sure if a truck is shown it is free and the company is also paying for the advertising. On Parker's trail New Zealand Tyler Mahoney (pronounced Mauny) shows up with a Toyota all terrain vehiclr. I'm betting Toyota sponsors the show. And I'm betting New Zealand tourism, Austrslian tourism etc. Pay advertising.

In a season they got the amount of gold that gold miners get in 1 day's haul. TV mining better pay good, huh?

Let’s do the math.$100k gold minus fuel, equipment, food, etc. Each member of the team gets $13. That works out to $0.06 per hour. They all must either live with their parents or get welfare from the government.

Its purely for entertainment but destroying nature in the process stripping the riches from the land and not benefiting from the gold itself doesn't make sense, if it don't make money it don't make sense. Think about the future generations they won't have fish to catch thanks to you guys or some fish species may be lost and replaced by a farm raised imposter. I'll be tuning in next week ☝🥸
