THIS is classical alto. Bravo to the incomparable Mr. Abato.
Thank you for sharing this historic recording. One day soon the saxophone will be featured more frequently with Orchestras around the world. Or at least that is my hope.
Candidly, an incredible find (on an incredible day...)...
Excellent piece of saxophone history.
Vincent Abato, excellent American classical saxophonist, sounds wonderful. You can also find him on an old Nonesuch recording performing Ibert, and Glazounov.
What a rare, rare, rare, rare find ...
Vincent Abato is bravo.
Is it true he recorded this playing on a Meyer??

Yes, Meyer Bros 3M, though... not a 5M like most pure jazz players (Phil Woods, Cannonball Adderley, etc) played.

Adam, and you told me Tru-Flex Bros, right? I recently got a Tru-Flex 3 and the baffle & chamber are different from a normal Meyer Bros...the closest thing I think is a close tip opening Reso Chamber by Otto Link, but it's still different...
