The mysterious laugh is Charles Martinet's laugh played at original speed. It’s used for Boo’s laugh when it’s sped up, and Bowser’s laugh when slowed down. I don’t know why it plays in game as is, but it could either be an Easter egg or a loading issue

I thought the original laugh is just a no copyright audio bit from stock. The KZreadr Thomas Game Docs showed that in a video of his own that covered the Boo laughs but idk, could be wrong

@@Catnamics9@BluBerry3 Hi! I'm a super-duper-ultra Mario fan and scrolled upon this video! This voice clip is indeed the original Charles clip at/close to original speed. My best guess is it happens when sounds overlap and tries to play a different sound at a slower speed but does this instead. It is indeed a pre-existing stock sound -- but is coincidentally Charles!! literally one of my fave bits of Mario trivia

It’s king boo in his early days. Now his voice is more high pitch most likely because of the fact that it’s a children’s game and they don’t want to scare their younger addience❤ (Theory)

This is quite mysterious. Perhaps it’s a laugh that belongs to the owner of the mansion, perhaps a demonic, sinister being that Mario has never seen in the flesh. Or perhaps it belongs to a different ghost species different to the Boos.

It’s not an Easter egg or a secret laugh, just another example of Mario 64 being weird. The “secret laugh” only plays when you first enter the mansion because the game is playing the regular laugh but is also lagging because it’s loading the interior of the mansion. The lag slows down the laugh and it plays like that instead.

It could be a slowed down laugh, kinda as an easter egg, or it might be a glitch. Either works.

I remember hearing this was a bug, but I didn’t know about it at all until it happened to me 💀

It's the original, unedited laugh thats both slowed down for Bowser's laugh and sped up for Boo's laugh

Context.so basically he’s showing a mysterious place where boo laughs at you,and there was a slowed laugh.that was a boo laugh but deep

This laugh is extremely rare though I remember getting it and being scared when I played the game, however haven’t gotten it ever since I don’t know if it was intentional or just an Easter egg that never appears in the game ever again

It's because the boos actually used a supposedly "Unused" sound it's actually just a slowed down version of the boos laugh and when you slow it down to 15 you can actually hear bowsers laugh

So we get to hear the original speed for the laugh (I think), cool.

It’s a nice touch as it adds a creepy feel, it’s like “after beating big boo, someone else is pulling the strings, something much much scarier watching you, but you’ll never ever know what it is…until it’s…too late”

It kinda sounds like a Boo Mario.

Well I think this is the reason why so the laugh of boo is and bowsers laugh are the same but at different speeds and they’re both voiced by Charles before he was Mario the laugh came from an audio cd (I think) and it’s probably a sound glitch because it sounds similar to Charles voice and if slowed down more it sounds like bowsers laugh so in short it’s probably a glitch in the audio speed

I feel like that was reference from super Mario world advanced when the ghost laughs

Hey y'all! I'm an ultra Mario fan that stumbled upon this vid. This "mysterious laugh" is actually not so strange -- it's the Boo laugh at a slower speed.....and Bowser's laugh at a faster speed! That's right! The Boo laugh and Bowser laugh in SM64 are the same clip at different speeds! But hold on, do you recognize the voice? It's actually Charles Martinet, the (original) voice of Mario!!!! So this was all planned, right? They got him in the studio to record this laugh clip for the game? Actually.....this clip is pre-existing from a sound bank, and they just happened to grab the one that had his voice!! Whether it was used purposefully after that point is lost on me, but I like to imagine it's just a wonderful coincidence!! This is literally one of my favorite bits of trivia for this game and the whole series in general!!!!

Now that I think about it, the laugh sounds so similar to the king boo’s laugh from the ds remake
