🇲🇽 CREEL, CHIHUAHUA - Is it WORTH IT? | Home of CHEPE Express Train & COPPER Canyons | Mexico Travel

🇲🇽 CREEL, CHIHUAHUA - Welcome to Part 9 of my 2022 Mexico Travel series! We are continuing our journey through the northern Mexican state of Chihuahua! We’ve been to Ciudad Juárez, Parral and Chihuahua City itself, now finally making it to the Pueblo Mágico (magical town) of Creel, the gateway to las Barrancas del Cobre (Copper Canyons) on the world-famous Chepe Express train (I used ejecutiva or business class), which, with multiple stops, ends up in Los Mochis, Sinaloa. But, is it worth it?
In this video we explore the home of the Rarámuri (Tarahumari), the indigenous people in the Creel area, have some classic comida Mexicana (Mexican food) and visit the Valles de Hongos y Ranas (Valleys of the Mushrooms and Frogs), prehistoric rock formations located on Rarámuri land. Insane!
The Chepe Express is a popular aspect of Mexico tourism. As a result, Creel is a bit ‘touristy’, but that’s part of the territory. In the next video, we board the Chepe Express to see what all the fuss is about!
If you’re thinking about traveling Mexico, being an expat, or moving to Mexico, Chihuahua is another great consideration to get away from the more popular destinations such as Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende and Cancun.

    🇺🇸 Welcome to Creel! Keep in mind that this was filmed in April 2022 and I am no longer in Chihuahua in real-time. The next video after this features the Chepe Express experience itself, followed by Los Mochis as featured in the intro. As I made clear in this video, I could only be in Creel on a Saturday and get the Chepe straight to Los Mochis on the Sunday. This was always the plan. I did not have the time to stop at each place in the Copper Canyon due to work commitments on the following Monday. If you didn't catch it, I mentioned on at least 2 occasions in this video about the possible stops and tours you can do. I hope you liked the mushrooms and frogs! *Have you been to Creel? What was your experience like?* 🇲🇽 ¡Bienvenidos a Creel! *¿Has estado en Creel?

Saludos, excelente video! :)

    Hiya David. We took El Chepe from Los Mochis to Creel in 2014. We stayed here four days while waiting on a bus (it was actually a Chevy Suburban) to take us down into the canyon to the town of Batopilas, also a Pueblo Mágico. That drive down is GORGEous and we found the town of Batopilas _very_ interesting... We ended up hitchhiking out of Batopilas all the way to Chihuahua City with a couple of geologists.

    It is amazing how much the area also looks like places in the interior of British Columbia such as Princeton - so many kilometers north of Creel - right down to the ponderosa pines and rocky cliffs (like at 10:12). And wait - you can't leave Mexico - you are finally nailing the double r's. Your "burritos" at 19:54 was inspired! Looking forward to "all aboard"!

    Hi David! By the time I am writing this comment you haven't posted the Chepe video yet, but sadly, I was not very surprised when you described it (in a reply) as a "nightmare". Anyway, I want to say thank you for not only building a fantastic and unique travel channel but also for being genuine and sincere about your feelings and impressions. I don't know your channel metrics, but I am sure that besides the modest number of views and subscribers you must be getting good engagement. I can tell you that your channel is truly entertainment, and I can make an example: I would love that Netflix offer channels like yours, but I can't imagen how would someone pay a subscription to watch a guy (or couple) going to buy groceries to a supermarket in San Miguel or Queretaro, it’s mind blowing. So, my point is that there is nothing wrong in your channel stopping it from being successful, the problem is more with the platform,. At the end its all about recreation and entertainment, and you offer videos that are well made, fun and enjoyable.

  • @davidostrowski679

    @davidostrowski679

    2 жыл бұрын

    Thanks Julio, everything you said is absolutely correct! The platform has never worked for travel (except in a few rare cases). It simply depends on the country. Therefore subscriber numbers don't mean anything. I could quite easily just set up camp in Queretaro like you say, but I'd rather actually travel. As you probably know I'm on the last legs of doing this and beyond excited to do other things with my life. With KZread and Travel I've achieved everything I wanted to and more! 5 million views and 30000 subscribers I don't see as modest at all, when I started just making videos for friends and family I barely expected 100 views LOL. Chepe video is currently in the early stages of editing, I'm aiming for Thursday or Friday!

    For a change I read many of the comments below regarding your video. I'm struck by the happiness of the reactions. It captures you, I think, alongside the seriousness. Sorry for any diatribes but this is true...Your verve conveys love that makes us viewers identify. Did I mention that many years ago I read Bruce Chatwin's book on Patagonia and it made me feel as though I were reading Thomas Hardy? Pretty - about England - and pretty down? Poor Tess poor Mayor...well poor everybody. Maybe I gave up literature and took up KZread travel. Someone give me a happy Yay clap! I sure won't. Your eye is as good as Chatwin's. Laugher amid. Hi, David! Interesting video and nice drone shots above all those rock formations and the town of Creel! Like you, I'm also fascinated by unusual rock formations, and I loved seeing the Valle de Los Hongos. Creel could absolutely pass for being one of the small rickety rural towns in Northern New Mexico and Northern Arizona, and it felt strangely familiar to me. The character and appearance of the town, the pine trees, and the rock bluffs are all so much the same as some small towns in the American Southwest. New Mexico has two different areas with very other-worldly rock formations. Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks is 40 miles West of Santa Fe and is similar to the Hongos. The Bisti Badlands are in the Four Corners area of NW New Mexico, and have very tall cones with big flat rocks sitting atop them. I know you're not a fan of the US, but I think you'd love all the quirkiness, unique character, and unusual landscapes in New Mexico. Keep that thought in mind for the future.

    Nice video, we must have been there at almost the same time. I was also in Creel in April 2022, but my experience was very different than yours. I came up to Creel on El Chepe Regional, which is the passenger train, which is not anywhere as fancy as El Express, but what was nice is you cod be like Pancho Villa and actually ride outside the train if you wanted to. We stayed in Creel for a few days and it was our base for a lot of adventures in the region. We found out there are actually two Tarahumada tribes, an upper and lower tribe. The Tarahumadas are fascinating people, I hope you had a chance to talk to them.

    Hey yeah I spoke to some kids at the rocks but couldn't include them on camera because of course they asked for money. The Chepe was an absolute nightmare. Not worth it at all. I wish I'd known the regional train was like that. The train in Serbia in Mokra Gora that I mentioned was like you describe. On the Chepe you get shouted at even going to the toilet because it's 'not safe'. It was like a prison train. Even with cold food! I might be giving too much away but it wasn't luxurious at all (even business class), I felt like a night train I got once in economy across Indonesia was better!!

As far as I remember, the train stopped there and you just got off. Hilarious. Love that song. The Scala choir version is amazing!

    It's horrible. Creel was a beautiful place. From what I remember, they destroyed like 80% of the trees. Illegal loggers are converting Creel into a desert!! It looks awful compared to how it used to look. It's depressing.

    I can understand what you mean! It definitely felt so desert-like, I can only imagine what it used to look like. Plus thr tourist related growth. I guess it's inevitable in a way.
