You really need to start a Creed playlist and react to all their songs. They will speak to you. With Scott Stapp and his Christian background from his start with the band to his very public breakdown of mental illness in life to now back on the good side life with his solo work.

I have never been into heavy rock, but back in the 90's this band just "got me". I love Scott Stapp's voice so much. He can be so gentle and perfect and then hard and edgy when need be. So many people put them down and said they were a crappy band. Those people OBVIOUSLY never really LISTENED to the ir music. So much good Christian music out there that people don't give a chance just because it's " Christian". Great reaction!

I grew up in a Christian home. I was a teenager in the 80's/90's. I was a Christian headbanger/hockey player. (long hair coming out o my helmet) I grew up on STRYPER, Bloodgood, Barron Cross, White Cross, Petra, Etc.... After the dim dull Grunge eara of music, Creed was breath of fresh air musically. And then you add lyrics like this! BAM!!! I love singing this song! Tears well up during the part- Next time I see this face I'll say, I choose to live for always. So won't you come inside and NEVER go away..... You gotta listen to some of Scott Stapps solo stuff. You will go through the honest inner struggle that he has gone through. Oh and Please react to some New and old Stryper. They are still going strong!!!!!

Standing “against” the Faceless Man is not used to mean enemy. Think of standing against a wall. If the wall is removed, you fall. The word “against” is used as critical support, not as contention. Many blessings to you and the growth of your channel!

The faceless man is NOT Jesus, its your own ego. Its faceless because everyone has it. The facelessness implies it can be ANYONES face. I remember the singer, Scott, in an interview a long time ago on MTV saying the faceless man is the part of him that sins, the "egoic-self" were his exact words. The words of the song make total sense when you know what he wrote it about. Jesus was sent here to teach us to control our ego... And as destined, the Human ego got him killed. The irony. It makes sense that you stand against your own ego, as Christians battle sin and temptation all the time, as if its a person that isnt you, but its you, lol. My favorite part is; "Next time I see this face... Ill say, I choose to live, always... So why dont you come inside and never go away." This is choosing to follow Gods word in the face of temptation and going home, to heaven...

@@salvohatteras8327It is, but the “faceless man” is not referring to Him. In the song, he references seeing a face in the water, this refers to Jesus. The whole verse there refers back to the Son of Man, right there. So in the song, Jesus has a face. So the faceless man part isn’t referring to Jesus, it is like the other guy described. It is yourself, the carnal, egotistic part of yourself that is man - because it’s you - but is also not a person in the same we you are. You have a face, your ego doesn’t. At least, using the interpretation of the song.

In an interview with Scott "Flip" Phillips, the drummer, he said of all the songs on the album, this was his favorite to play. As a drummer myself I can see why. Still think this album has the best snare drum sound I've ever heard.

Creed is one of my favorite bands. This one of the best songs.

My favorite song by creed is "my own prison" that song will amp you up. You should give it a listen when you get the chance. Much love to you and then rest of the D-Gibby family

I don’t know why people hate them. I’m a musician and I don’t get it, Mark Tremonti is one of the best Alt Rock/Metal guitarists out there. Scott Stapp writes great lyrics. Scott had some substance abuse issues that put the band into hiatus plus he was a bit of an ego maniac, but big deal there are plenty of bands that this has happened too.

My favorite Creed song of all time. Always makes those hands on the arm stand straight up. And I'm not a bible thumper, not even close. And still gets me.

This band has so many good songs.. I like the guitar player and the dudes voice and lyrics.

Brother my band played this alot and everytime we got tears in actual bars to people that had never heard it. It is a very deep song. The faceless man is your own demons amd noticed at the end you face the facelessan with the lord.

Scott said during a concert when introducing this song that this one was closest to his ❤. My favorite group of all time!

When Scott Stapp is singing about standing "against" the faceless man, he is not meaning he is standing in opposition to him, but rather facing him. Standing "against" or "over against" as it is in the Bible means "on the opposite side of" someone or something facing them, or facing in their direction.

Love creed. Everything with creed sounds big and has an emotion it pulls while being inspirational all at once.

This song means alot to me i had a dream one time that felt real and i remember every detail..a cloaked man was holding me in his arms by a stream and i couldnt see his face and i didnt know him but i felt incredibly peacefull and from the parts of his face i could see he kinda looked like me but perfect and i asked who he was and he said im you and it blew my mind..he then told me words ill never forget these words are always with me when i go through bad times those words were everythings going to be ok.

I met my husband through our love of Creed. We were thousands of miles and an ocean apart. We’ve been together 20 years now and have three kiddos. In the split of SS and AB, we went to Alter Bridge and Tremonti instead. We will always have love for Creed. The song and band that has gotten me through so many hard times in life, and by far the most underrated Creed song through all of their four albums. Thank you! While this song obviously has some very deep Christian meaning and undertone, I also think it can be applied to anyone in life. The faceless man can be your conscience judging you, an incomplete vision/molding of yourself and who you want to be, good vs evil, etc. Standing “against” the faceless man may be a crutch, as in leaning on the person you want to be, or it may literally be standing against the face of evil and wrongdoing. So many different ways to interpret the lyrics, with or without Christian context. Scott Stapp said this is the song that truly reveals what Creed is/was about. If I had to request another underrated Creed song, it’d be “Never Die.”

When they came to Nashville with this album, Scott said he gets criticized for this song, but Nashville will let him play this song. Awesome.

The faceless man is the enemy. That's why he says he stands against him.

Jake you just nailed it! This is how I’ve interpreted this song all along. He was saved the moment he saw the image of Jesus in the water and made the decision to stand as a new creation with Jesus against his old self who waivered against doing what was right because enemy had a hold of him and appeared to him as the faceless man.

I have been listening to Creed since the 90’s and have heard this song SO MANY TIMES but today was the first time I heard it for it’s lyrics and what it means. I was YouTubing the song to see more performances of it and stumbled across this video. You are every bit of amazing. Seeing you react the same way I did just confirmed how powerful the song is. Unbelievable. He needs to keep writing!!!

Los of self imposed difficultieswere in Stapp's life, due his past addictions. God used his real sruggles and God's forever presence and offered great messages via Stapp's heavy voice and dep lyrics, and at times gentle voice and touching lyrics. As a Christian man, this song makes me cry almost every time. Praise God fr. PS: Idk if you know about Scott's struggle, but he was abused growing up, was on drugs while in Creed, lost his singing voice, Creed disbanded, and finally he fully gave himself to Jesus and got his famous voice back plus his family back. He is such a great person to listen to man and so inspiring. You should watch him on the Theo Von podcast. God bless man!

Hi there brother. I know I'm late to the party but, I grew up on Creed. I was born in 1988. My very first song from Creed was their hit single "My Own Prison". I just have to say that it's so awesome to see someone else besides me, getting pumped up when they hear them. Just a little advice, listen to their song "OVERCOME". PS. I stay in Crawfordville Florida. 20 miles from where Creed formed their band.

That was a horrible person, cold with lost stare, without a face...i always say that this song save me for that way, i leave all my vices thank to God, and Creed...this song man, reminds me my old me...

“Broken” is one of my all time favorite songs! It’s probably in the top 5 on my life’s soundtrack!

Creed’s 1st Two Albums are Absolutely Amazing What If Torn My Own Prison These Songs are a Good Start

This is in my top 3 favorite Creed songs next to One and My own Prison

Nice mate! This is my favourite Creed song. What's this life for?, One, Weathered, Time, Full Circle are all great. I enjoyed your explanation after the song.

You missed out man. This album made Creed the number one band on the planet. This was back when you could hear legit Rock on mainstream radio. YOU HAVE TO DO HIGHER. Higher is what made Creed sell out stadiums and was played everywhere. The tragedy of Creed is that by the third ablum Brian had left the band and Scott Stapp had seemingly become a trainwreck. He was drunk at concerts, ect. So the band broke up. It wasnt until the last few years that we, and Scott too figured out the truth. Scott in 2016 posted a bunch of seemingly crazy videos where he was saying the country was going to be invaded and a bunch of other conspiracy theories about how he was being followed and monitored by the government. Once he was safely apprehended, he was diagnosed as being bi-polar. And knowing that now, his drug use and drinking back in the Creed days, were his self-medicating his undaignosed bipolar disorder. People with undiagnosed bipolar disorder tend to use drugs when they are feeling depressed but then drink when they are feeling manic. So yeah. Its sad too because he was always labeled a trainwreck for ruining Creed.

His solo stuff since he’s been sober is even better!!! I saw creed in concert 3 times and saw Scott solo in concert and his solo concert was the best!!! He still sings his creed songs and does his solo songs! Broken! Purpose for pain! Name! Justify!

Ourself is the Faceless Man

Here's my interpretation, and the meaning that I got out of the song. I believe that the faceless man is evil of any sort. The face in the water is his own reflection, but the reflection shows as the holy spirit that is still within him. So now he must make a choice to follow the light inside him (Holy Spirit) or walk alone on a path to evil where he may never make it back home (Heaven). He chose to live always and do what's right, and he will fight to stand against the faceless man (evil of any kind) again and again because of his faith. The next time that he sees this face (Holy Spirit), he will tell him to come inside his soul and never go away.

The Faceless man is the human flesh, carnal sin.

At 5:25 he's talking about not abiding (hence alone in a way although He will leave us or forsake us. He will not quench a smoldering wick. He will leave the 99 for the 1. He seat the captives free). Creed - who's got my back

knew i would come back for a fourth time!

I think the faceless man is his emptiness inside and that he is lost. He basically says he chooses to bring the face of God into his life and live his life the right way. That to me is why he is standing against the faceless man. That is just what i got from this song. other people my see it different. Still love Creed no matter what the haters say.

Even stranger how I think about it. Faceless man could refer how Jesus didn't likely have a certain appearance. Because several times in scripture people could not identify him. Maybe a shape shifter in a since. And why we shouldn't have graven images of God.

The Faceless Man is the enemy. That's why he stands against him.
