He's really wonderful and so generous in what he shares about his process. I love his Scriptnotes podcast.
This could also be a commercial for whiteboards. I want one now. And.. of course that flashy keyboard.

He's the screenwriter in the next aladdin live-action. SUPER !!!! :D
fantastic series ya'll are doing!
A Mad scientist at work. Thanks for bringing us into John's world. Very interesting. That keyboard thing is nuts.
pretty sure this will be talked about on the next scriptnotes podcast
Loads of great tips here although the one that blew me away was writing the scenes out of sequence.
Wow this is really great stuff. Especially the whiteboard technique - so true!
I'm sure I saw that keyboard somewhere in the new Star Wars trailer.
Those creative sparks videos are awesome!
I Love the movie The Big Fish, Its fantastic
Time to watch big fish.
Love his podcast
Several amazing writers actually do pretty much the opposite. They just start with a premise and see where it leads them. Stephen King does it that way. Hayao Miyazaki literally starts by drawing things and seeing if he can string them together.
It's going to take me like a week to assimilate these five minutes.
I need that keyboard!!! My wrists are sufferin from tendonitis frm all the typing
Standing Desk Cameo
Wow! I do what he does, but on paper or the pc screen. Nice!
Wow how do you type on a keyboard like that?? Incredible
Woah
Great stuff! Weirdest keyboard I have ever seen tho ^^
Who wrote the music in this?? I hope someone can PLEASE tell me.
Huh, he doesn't sound bald.
do you have an original about documentary filmmaking? that would be awesome to see.
Anyone know what program he's using at 4:36? He writes a question in double brackets and it looks as though a link is created, which I presume will be a document he will write later. I do a lot of roughing out in Pages and would really value a feature like this.

He uses Fountain, a syntax system he co-created himself. the [[-syntax is to add notes to the script. The syntax can easily be converted to PDF, Final Draft format and so on. The program he uses is probably Highland or Slugline, one of the programs made for MacOS to work intelligently with Fountain scripts, although you can use any editor you want with Fountain. Fun fact: I watched this video specifically to see Fountain in action in that scene. I think it's not well known enough for what it does, it can save you a lot of money and safe your face by learning about correct formatting early on.
I really like Corpse Bride.
There no such thing as too many ideas
He was not blessed with looks
