Creative Photography in Your Own Backyard.

Summer in the UK is unpredictable to say the least; after weeks of rain and wind and more to come, one day of respite allowed me to try something new: Intentional Flower Movement. I'm not sure that name will catch on!
The venue, my garden. The subject, my flowers. The technique, wind power... not ICM but kind of.
Learning something new in photography by having a play was refreshing as was not having to travel to a location. Creativity can be inspired right on your doorstep.

If in doubt, kick it! Haha. This is an interesting project Louise. I would personally treat it like shooting water movement, There is a sweat spot for creating an image with energy, where the subject is still recognisable and there is the ‘right’ amount of movement. I love really long exposures so I would have a go with a ten stop filter and even move the camera closer so that it becomes an unrecognisable wave of colour. The images remind me of long exposures of dancers wearing colourful outfits.

I remember you showing me a shot of dancers once … I think during the flash video and it does remind me of that. Kicking was a disaster! Shall not do it again! 😳

I love the intentional camera movement (which is very good) & the abstracts of the red/orange flowers.

Must be love, he let you interrupt his cricket! Interesting technique. I also appreciate seeing how you edit. I can't say I like the blurrier/sharper best. Very much dependent on the subject to my eyes.

I know! The cricket sacrifice! And I think at that point we were winning. Thanks for your thoughts Brian, it does depend on the size of the flower to me. Larger flowers were able to take more movement … I think!

I like the "more definitions" for this kind of ICM...personal opinion! And that background give me some ideas for the future. Thanks Louise!

Thanks Walter. I tend to agree and the task was made so much easier with that background. Mine is a vinyl of wood with texture, hence I needed to darken a couple of areas. But upon reflection the lighter patches would have been placed more Carey for better effect. BUT essentially anything dark would have worked. Enjoy playing 😊

Just came across your channel. You have a beautiful garden. I love doing flower photography in my own garden but it is usually so windy that it makes it difficult. You've given me a new way to think about photographing next year. I preferred more definition but both worked really well, just a different feeling.

Hi Susan, thank you. We are a pair of chaotic ‘plonk it there’ gardeners. 🙈 And oh boy has it been windy this year. I was just desperate to get out and do something… anything! Good luck… btw, kicking it doesn’t work! 😂

Thanks Ali … but I am stumped as to how to process the Milky Way one I captured with you. I look at yours and Lee’s and think, oh I’ll do it later as I’m not going to do half as good a job. 😂

Louise Are you sure these pictures worn't taken by the James Web Space Telescope? Looks like some of those galaxy space pictures NASA keeps publishing. No matter great pictures Louise no matter where you took them
