I've got my 90's Japanese ESP Mark IV with round wounds and a cheaper Shechter Omen-IV with flats. You're right that they're almost different instruments and I like having those two feels / tones on tap. They definitely inspire me to play differently. Thanks for all the bass content lately. I've been playing a lot of guitar lately, but I was a bassist primarily for many years and you've got me feeling the itch to get back into it.

This has been a very helpful video for me. I’ve just started my helix lt journey for bass . Very easy to understand and the big take away for me is I definitely need to use use the helix computer app as it’s much quicker then dialing the helix direct. Tahnks

Interesting that the frequencies below 200 don't need to be put through any amp / cabs to sound good. Nice job!

thanks alex, going to try this with the nifty 50 dollar bass i got to see if i like it, so far this cheapo bass i found on offerup has been a pain, the pickups are weak (unless all passive p bass are like that?) going to try the comp settings you mentioned and hopefully it has more use than a neck dive happy piece of junk, considering having upgraded the pots and i did order a set of fender pickups, but they were lost by usps. worst comes to worse i can sell it to someone else wanting to see if bass is also of interest.

What's that bassline @2:45? It sounds so familiar. It sounds like the bassline from Lady by Modjo. Just bought your helix bass preset pack last night. Love the Phat tone to play Thundercat's bassline on Mac's "What's the Use"? Do you plan on updating these presets to the 3.5 fw update? (3.5 brought new amps and mic positioning). Also wondering if you could help create a preset for Thundercat's "Them Changes"? I messed around with the auto-filter effect, but struggled to get close.

Hi - unfortunately 95% of my presets will not work with HX Effects as most of them contain amp models and are made for plugging direct in rather than do an amp. You're welcome to view the videos and steal settings from the screen. It'll be a bit tedious but that'll be the best way for you. Helix presets containing amp blocks are unable to be imported to HX Effects.

That was my first thought, especially the first two measures, but then whoever is playing on Mac's song mixes it up quite a bit after that...

I'm looking at the HX stomp as a "do it all" rig. I play bass primarily, but also play acoustic guitar as well for gigs. Do you have any suggestions for the type of pedal (i.e. Overdrive, reverb, delay, etc.) To use with the stomp as a grab and go board no matter the gig?

I think you might be able to do it with just the stomp? I recently found out you can use it as a headphone amp for in-ear monitoring as well, using the send/return blocks. This thing is so universally useful, it's crazy.

I think you'll be good with just the Stomp or Stomp XL honestly. If there's one thing I'd add on, it's a DI box or preamp of sorts. I've been using the Red Eye pre/DI combo with my Stomp XL lately. It's active, but it can be powered with phantom power so no additional power supply needed.

@@AlexPriceMusician i did end up getting the stomp and I really like it for both bass and guitar. One thing I've run into is "on the fly" adjustments. Is that what the di box and preamp would do?

  • @AlexPriceMusician

@@noahkachelski7880 The preamp doesn't do much other than amplify the signal nicely before the stomp, provide an extra boost, and balance the signal with the option of a ground lift. It's more of a convenience thing and totally not needed.
