    Nice fun videos Ryan. I resurrected a 1988 924S SE which I sold last year. Now I am working on a 1982 924 turbo. My car has the apparently typical non working exterior drivers door handle. Unfortunately for me it seems the 87/88 924 door handles are different from the earlier models. Not finding much on the web on the earlier 924 door handle issues. I suppose I am just going to have to take it apart and explore. Your paint suggestion will come in handy for sure, and I'll watch your progress here. The keyless entry was a very cool idea!

    Thanks Rick! I'm glad you enjoy the show and plan to follow the the progress! I hope the exploration on your turbo's handle goes well! Those rare SE's are cool. And the turbo's are too. It sure seems like these cars are starting to take off in interest/value. Someone should start making affordable replacement handles that work on all the different models and years of 924/944's, and fix the weak points in the design. I'm still kicking myself for not pulling the handles off of the 924 that was in the salvage yard by my house. At the time, I didn't know how common broken handles were on these cars. They would have cost me a whopping $5 a piece! Even just for the parts, or to save/sell.

    @@rybreadification What was the finish of the spray paint you ended up using? Semi-gloss or gloss? I'm in Canada and trying to find a comparable product.

    I used semi-gloss Rust-Oleum brand “high performance” enamel. We’ll see how it holds up. Ideally you want something that has good adhesion, but also wears well, being it’s the handle. I think semi-gloss or satin is best, the full gloss just doesn’t look right.

    They sell this stuff here called POR 15. You can brush it on, you could try a paint like that, but then you should get all the old paint off first. But it can’t be to thick where the trigger goes. I just used “cheap” spray paint for now. Also i was thinking satin or flat farm and implement paint might be good. May take a long time to dry....Your jacket is drrrreye....that’s from the movies. They sell 2 part in a spray can for 20 or 30 bucks at paint shops or mail order here. Its like 20 or 30 bucks. I don’t know how durable it really is though.

    @@rybreadification I picked up some Tremclad spray paint that is essentially the same as what you used so I’ll be trying that out soon. I’m still trying to get everything off the door. My panel has some water/heat damage at the top along the inner window seal and the seal itself is cracked in half. Most of the tabs to hold the panel to the door came off so I have to find some way to put them back in and reinforce them. You mentioned that in your video but I don’t know if you said how you reinforced them? I’m thinking about trying to rebuild the top edge of the door panel with some kind of papier mâché, but I’m not sure if it will work well or not? I have lots of questions but don’t want to monopolize your comments unless it might be helpful for others?

    Good stuff. Are you just using bike hooks to hang your wheels? That might solve my extra wheel space issue.

    Thanks! I don't remember what brand mine are, but they are really close to these ones I found on Amazon. I've seen them advertised as ladder hooks. They work well, but I wish they were a little stronger. They said they could hold up to 50 pounds each, but they do bend a bit from the weight of my wheels. If I ever get more of them I'm going to look for ones that have a little thicker metal and can hold more weight. www.amazon.com/Storage-Mounted-Utility-Surfboard-Protector/dp/B07SZNGSZS/ref=sr_1_16?keywords=storage+hooks+for+ladder&qid=1639101178&sr=8-16

    I have a hard time to place the handle back in place.its 924 1977.

    @philciucci2715 I did mine with the door panel off which made it a lot easier. If you just pulled the handle off, I think you have to feed the linkage in first and then stick a screwdriver or something down in the handle hole and snap the linkage on, then twist the handle around to get it hooked in the door. Otherwise you might be able to pull the vent out and get in there that way, but I’m not sure about that. Actually, if you take the latch off of the door jam, I think you can stick the handle in the hole and snap the linkage on the latch, then get the handle situated and then screw the latch back on the door. It’s been a while since I worked on it so I’m not sure about the exact sequence - I hope that helps. You can trace around the latch with a marker to put it back in the exact spot.

    What junkyard is that Porsche 944 located at?

  • @rybreadification

    @rybreadification

    It was In a junkyard close to me, but they shutdown and went out of business. It was the only Porsche I ever saw there. It was a 924 with a pasha (however you spell it) interior. It also had what looked like the stock straight from the factory tires. Like when it was new, they went off the road and hit a tree or something, then it sat for years before the yard got it.

    I went through all this on both my '87 924S and my '84 944. They're a shit design. I can't believe how bad they are. I've owned a '70 Chevelle, a '78 Dodge truck, an '88 Jeep Cherokee...and others, and i didn't have a single problem with the door handles on any of them. But these cars? WTF were they thinking?

    Ya, its funny, This car only has 60,000 or so miles on it…so I didn’t expect to need handles or have to fix them. The door handle on my camaro broke, but besides that i never had any problems with door handles either.

    @@GameChanger-te8sw I’m not sure, there must be a bug or something. You might need to change the playback speed to normal in the KZread player if it’s screwed up for some reason.
