I love your natural way of explains art methods. It’s no direct by the book structures, there’s lots of feeling in your description which other artists can recognise and relate to!

Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video! It really helped me understand that the fundamentals are really a bunch of tools in a toolbox that an artist uses to depict a subject or capture the essence of it and leave the rest of the information vague or abstract, study it, or even make sense of it. To the effect of what you said, it's a series of steps of intentional thinking, practice, and instincts that produces an image. And determining how well or unwell you're conveying a certain element or fundmental lets you know if you need to change something or explore another direction within the image. When you said realism is really how clear the information is helped me make sense of that. Again, thank you so much!

We have alot in common with our working technique. One letting the piece develop itself. And two pulling beauty out of chaos. My drafting skills will always be the foundation of my painting. It was really good to see another artist who has the skill and passion for his art.

Don't know why KZread decided to put one of your shorts in my feed, but I'm glad it did :) I really love your work, and I love how your seemingly "random strokes" (at first) end up creating a beautiful portrait. Or, as the title of your video suggests, how beauty emerges out of chaos. Beautiful work ! I wish I could express as much with my photography :)

Your explanation of becoming stale or hitting a wall in progressing is so true with many artists. I've experienced this as a drummer. You keep at it and getting inspiration from other artists can open up doors that you didn't know existed. I love the way your production is quick and fluid, along with your explanations, which makes viewing you working is a rush.

Thanks for sharing your techniques and amazing drawings! I’ve drawn with pencil on and off all my life. I start gesturally and get more detailed as I go like you mentioned, but the flexibility of charcoal you demonstrated to even out tones at whatever point in a drawing and then bring back out the light and shadows is awesome. It’s crazy to me how fast you can change the mood of a subject using charcoal. You mentioned squinting, I do that as well,, sometimes I also turn drawings upside down to get a different perspective on things if that makes sense. I wish you continued success in your artistic journey!

Another really amazing drawing, and your additional information related to the types and locations of the form and cast shadows was a good refresher for me, keeping the chaos within the drawing creates a lot more interest, than something closer to a photo, thank you MSG Leum

Really enjoyed this rendering. It looked complete several times then you smeared, blended, created depth and detail over and over. At 11:04 the subject was looking out at something then with a stroke of eraser at 11:08 the subjected was then looking down. Almost like it was a movie frame, moving in time, changing gestures as you sketched. Thank you for sharing this process.

Some of my pieces look a little unbalanced but yours always have a lovely balanced aesthetic. I’m not sure if this is something you consciously consider when drawing or if it’s something you’ve developed over time with practice, but any advice would be appreciated!

Beautiful demo! I loved watching the portrait emerge, and the beauty fo the process itself - you could stop the video at nearly any point and it was a work unto itself. Do you have a recommendation for a fixative that works with more fragile types of charcoal like vine/willow? I've tried a few and the charcoal still comes off even after several layers, which is a concern if I'm looking to ship works.
