This is exactly what I needed to see for my newly acquired spinning wheel. It has no bobbins, maidens, mother of all unit. But my dad has a woodworking shop! I am hopeful to begin spinning soon enough!! Thanks!

Good job! 😊 Just a note though, if you widen the flange at the head of the bobbin (the end that the drive band circles), you'll be able to fit more yarn on it. The flyer on this wheel is very roomy, lots of potential space wasted!

  • @anepictree

@@freakygeak Not so sure! If you make the tail end (orifice end) of the flyer bigger you'll get friction against flyer arms and there is no point whorl end bigger than orifice end as yarn has toi be loaded on bobbin evenly if you want a good even spin! The best is to copy the original, some experience at doing this has shown me that the original makers knew what they were doing!

Since I do not have a lathe. I would use a dowel, use a drill press to make the hole, then cut some wood round for the ends only problem is a what to use for the drive band holder.

use a bandsaw with a simple circle jig (see yt for diy info). make three at the needed sizes, drill holes and epoxy onto the dowel - two on one side, one on the other. doesn’t have to be perfectly balanced to work. beech and hard maple were commonly used.

  • @RainCountryHomestead

I don't recall recommending Macca for toenail but it does likely help with gut health which in turn will help with toenail and other such fungus. As far as externally, I have used my herbal clay mask for its detoxifying properties and it has helped a lot, plus I have an oil blend of coconut-tea tree-oregano that seems to also be helping. You can also experiment with clove oil and cedar wood. Many of the essential oils are antifungal. Another thing I have been doing (I find keeping it mixed up with various natural remedies works best) is using my deodorant powder on and between my toes to help absorb moisture (to prevent or help heal athlete's foot) plus the clove oil in it will fight those things as well.

@@RainCountryHomestead I have made many bobbins for different sizes of antique spinning wheels. All of the originals I used as samples were made in three parts (two ends and a shaft) that were glued together. It's a lot easier to make them that way and there's less wood wasted. Also, I noticed that when the finished bobbin was slid onto the flyer shaft, it was tight on the shaft. It won't work if it's tight. The hole in the bobbin shaft will need to be slightly larger so the bobbin can spin freely on the shaft. Otherwise, great job!

Yes, I do still have the wheel and have no intentions of getting rid of it. The problem is that at the same time I got the wheel was when the skirt orders started coming in and have not stopped since. Add to that some other things that came along taking up any possible spare time I have, I have simply not had a single moment to sit at the wheel and start learning on it. Though I work from home, youtube, chores, garden, and my Etsy store keep me busy all day 7 days a week and I rarely get a break. I pray that soon things will balance out where I can not only have some time off but time to simply do things I really want to do like reading a book again or learning how to spin.
