I think one big difference is the big box stores don't care about personal relationships, and they survive of the law of averages. We (guys like me and you) live off our reputation, the atmosphere and the personal relationships we build. I'm not suing a mom because she has a life change, or her son finds a new passion". The resentment, or bad PR, etc... what you said is spot on - WE HAVE ACADEMIES FULL OF PEOPLE THAT WANT TO BE HERE!

I don't pay anyone because I don't do contracts, but if you do contracts you would have to pay a third party to monitor and trac the contracts.

Just track through a log when the monthly tuition is due for each student. We have a software program that let's us know who is due on the 1st of the month, 2nd, 3rd etc.

@chadmcmahon1981 we used some software when we first opened, but for is the software wasn't worth the cost. So now we just have all the names in pen and paper. Sort of like a calendar where we track whose payment is due. My wife may be using a Excel spreadsheet too.

Making it hard to end a subscription really should be illegal. You should be able to just stop paying and it's up to the business to let your contract expire. It should be programmed in their system to happen automatically, of course after sending a reminder over email/sms in case you just forgot to pay.

I feel that the contracts are a shady business practice and it really just takes advantage of the customers, by locking them into a service they no longer want or make them keep paying for a service they no longer use.
