Creating a Copper and Brass Inlaid Wood Liner Ring

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

ALL RINGS 20% OFF IN SEPTEMBER @ tempestrings.com
This ring was made using copper tube, half round brass wire and waterfall bubinga wood. I inlaid the brass wire in cross segments and created a wood liner on the inside of the band for a different look. Thanks for watching!

There was a lot of work to add the brass and it did not stand out. It was subtle but I would have approached it differently. I like the inner wood to avoid the staining from copper, nice solution.

A jeweler's saw would leave finely cut square grooves. It's much more suited for fine work like this than a triangular file or an abrasive disk, both of which would leave grooves with a rounded bottom.

Keep up the good work. I love your videos. Your channel gave me inspiration to try and make rings as well! Do you still like to use the same glue, resin, and tools as you started with on the channel? I'm working on getting supplies as I can afford to.

Nice work. I really enjoy these. I have forged some copper cuff bracelets for my wife and daughters. I used some 1/4" square stock copper. I have a tough time with them turning and started painting them with clear gloss paint. But I like that UV coating. Does that stuff yellow any? I may have to get a uv light and try some.

I think he uses Allumi-uv from Allumilite. They sell the boxes on their site too. I’ve seen people use the light boxes people have to cure nail polish for this purpose too. Instead of using the light, laying down on the table, turn it up, so the lights are vertical. Then hang your item in front in the lights.

bit late but what the hell love the idea of the design, though the copper could have been blued or even greened steel or titanium to make the brass stand out a bit more

Buyer beware. Dude took me for $100; I purchased 2 rings from Tempest for Christmas, as a joint present between me and my best friend. I purchased them in mid-Dec., with the understanding that it would take 6 weeks to make. I also understood it was close to Christmas, so there might be some delay, but by Feb 4th, I still had no rings and emailed Ian. He apologized for the delay and told me he'd start on my rings and have them out the door by the coming Friday, which I accepted. In that email, I also asked if one of the rings could be made larger in size than the original order asked for. Ian said it would be no problem. Yet, when I received the rings, the one I asked to be resized had not been(I have a ring sizer, and know how to use it properly; I'm no stranger with making jewelry). I emailed Ian, informing him that the ring didn't fit; he said it was no problem, just put it back in the mail and he'd correct the issue. I did that. I have not heard a word since. I gave him another month and a half or so, to give him time to remake the ring(as I assume you can't really 'resize' them), but I've not heard a peep out of the owner either time I've reached out. So now I'm out $100, from someone who doesn't have the professionalism to return my emails or my money to me. Do not buy from Tempest; they don't have the maturity to deal with customer service issues, and they WILL take your money.

Nice work, but not your best ring. The contrast between copper and brass inlays is to weak. The grinded slots for the vertical inlays seemed to be to big so there is a gap remaining. And the copper surface looked scratchy at some spots, would polish it a little more. But the wood inlay looked really fantastic. I really liked that one. Sorry for being that critical but the finished ring was not the quality your other amazing rings are. It looked like done in a little hurry.
