I think I worked it in maybe 8 sessions over winter. Probably 30-40 hours

I am hoping, never. A friend of mine has one of these, not repotted for a decade. So I am hoping this will be for me too.

Great, artistic work creating the rock, but if the trees are Picea glauca " alberta conica", which I suspect they are, then they've not much hope progressing as bonsai. Cheap, widely available material for content creation I suppose.

@@GrowingBonsai Apology- I was feeling grumpy earlier. I enjoy your content. The Alberta conica, if that's what they are, are very reluctant to back- bud. Branches will completely die off if wired at the wrong time of year. They don't hold their styling well- branches which are wired downwards have a tendency to curl upwards. New shoots form in whorls. On the whole, very fussy. That's not to say it can't be done and that you can't do it, but show us the composition again in a few year's time to dispel the negativity. There are better species and cultivar of Picea to work with, although not as freely available or as cheap.

I don't get your reluctance, but they make quite fine bonsai. Maybe you had trouble with them but i and many others I know have used them quite successfully. Bonsai on !
