We are all "Natural Light Specialists" until we learn to shoot strobes and flash. I love natural light, and what it can create, but shooting with strobes opens up a whole new world. It's exciting, the added control you possess once you start to understand it. The way Peter floods his subjects with light is interesting. It's not my style, but I can absolutely respect it. Peter kicks ass at what he does. Headshots and selling gear.
This guy is a legend .
I shot on Hurly's kit at the PPA conference and it does produce amazing light. I def fell in love with this kit. It was a pleasure to shoot on and I watched Peter set it up pretty quickly. Immediately I was sold, take my money already! Then I saw the price, woah and there lies the rub. I think at 5K you are pricing yourselves out of a market that is reinventing itself every couple of years. Think about where LEDS were just 5 years ago compared to today... color was terrible and price points just made them a non option. LED technology is advancing so fast and the CRI is now up to 95 on cheaper chinese LEDS. No one is arguing the flex kit is unique and puts out beautiful light. But for head shot photographers, we are going to be using flat panels not flex panels. Why not put out rigid flat panels at a lower price point? How long before a chinese competitor puts out rigid flat panels for half the price of your flex kit? I own 3 Wescott Apollo soft boxes and love them. You guys make pro level stuff and I am fan of your products, but I am waiting on the sidelines untill this LED kit comes down on price. For real. Thanks

Rex Singleton U were right! Since 1 or even 2 years there is a much more cheaper option made by Travor. Round about 1000$
everyone is complaining about the price, for me personally i dont have a problem with the price because those light got me more jobs and in a short time i already made more than i paid for them. it all depends, if photographing is your full time job and you making good money out of it then i dont think Westcott kit price is an issue. iam happy with the lights and gives me the flexibility of travelling with them anytime and everywhere, before i was using 3 profoto b1s with soft boxes and when traveling or going to a corporate for some shots, they are painful and take long to setup, but with westcott they are just amazing, easy to setup and easy to packup. plus the quality of the light is just stunning.

Thanks for watching!!
Fantastic, especially if I could afford one. :(
excellent video. i was thinking, can i modify this design of light with 4 speed light and strip box?
Lighting is seen reflected back in the eyes. Guess the eyes are re-touched...
When did you switch from 4 panels to 3 in the kit? When do you think you will have them back in stock?
Crazy money.
So what would you need in addition to the kit? Looks like three c-stands and another stand for the lower bottom light? Is this correct?
Didn’t realize Howard Stern took pictures...
Great Video. One question. What type of lavalier microphone you are using?
@WestcottLighting

+DearHasanNYC That would be the Sennheiser ME-2 lav with the G3 wireless packs, sir.
Is it good setting for taking photo from a painting artwork as well?!
so continuous light is better than strobes for headshots?
Can this be done with a ring light
The question is...can you control the leds brightness from camera? Also, leds are continuous light which are governed by shutter speed, therefore, on location outside, if you want to dim the ambient surrounding light with faster shutter speed you will be dimming the leds as well, making them useless for main light. That's my point of view unless there is something about those led lights I don't know.

Continuous lights have distinct qualities and limitations. I think Peter does a good job of outlining the advantages he finds with the Flex lights.
Unfortunately these lights are not available in Germany. The Wescott stockist here doesn't stock them.
What kind of stand(s) is Peter using for these lights?

What knock off lights can I use to do this I am a poor photographer
This is unusable for glasses right? What am I missing?
Jesus those catchlights are distracting in the intro.
bts is so they can steal your set style!
is it a led light or a flash light? need a trigger?
@WestcottLighting

Peter's Kit is the Westcott Flex LED mats. www.fjwestcott.com/shop/lighting/led/flex The trigger is for the strobe or speedlights he uses on just the background in combination with the LED continuous lights on the subject.

The LED light does not use a trigger but Peter often uses a strobe to light a high key background along with the LED lights on the subject.
@fjwestcott why where the flashes 4:31 ??
@WestcottLighting

If you watch at 5:46 you will hear how Peter fires the strobes as background lights to get a gray, white or black background while lighting the subject with flex.
Yikes on the price of those lights 😳
not using that low ISO PhaseOne I see . . .
Does the model have an Instagram account?
But yet he's using a ring light for this video look at his catch lights!

Pretty sure you could set up some thing similar for cheaper though. Like 4 a apollo softboxs with LEDS in them. The soft boxes don't even have to be the westcott one to.
$5000 too expensive for me. I'll just build my own
