I have a tutorial on a layers and layer masks if you're not familiar with that, also I have a tutorial on how to select anything in Photoshop. I advise you to check it out. Those are some Photoshop basics.
Too many steps and confusing. You can get glow effect with just one layer for painting, one gradient map and if required one adjustment layer. Guys whose tutorials are sponsored deliberately give long tutorials and waste time.

The way nemanja did it, you can always go back and change something. Of course it’s personal preference, but this is the best way
