I think that comment stirred up some pent up rage in Elliot but he couldn’t take it out on Darlene since she never knew what happened. So MM emerges to channel that anger towards Ecorp.

I think this is the real Elliot. When he mentioned blacking out, that was one of the masterminds first appearances, since he's hell bent on justice (or it could've been Mr Robot, trying to protect Elliot in some way.) Then the mastermind reappears when he puts on the mask. But this time, for good.

Agreed. At first, he doesn't act like mastermind at all. Mastermind is far more turned inwards in inflection. The Elliot here has a drawl, and sounds almost confident at times.

I agree. MM is a lot more lively than the original Eliot. You can see how he doesn’t talk much. At least MM comes alive talking about his plans. Darlene even explains what the original Eliot was like. He does nothing.

The choice of music in this scene is pure genius.

Do we see the "original" Elliot in this scene? The Elliot we see here doesn't remember flipping out at work and destroying the servers. He also remembers Darlene in this scene, which he doesn't at the beginning of the series. I actually think "The Mastermind" appears when he puts on the mask and then disappears when he takes it off. This can also be Mr. Robot but as the "Mastermind" was created to come up with the plan, I think it is that person's under the mask.

I think he’s the mastermind here from the start. But once he sees Darlene for the firSt time in a long time the real Elliott returns. Then once he puts on the mask he becomes mastermind again. In s4 mr robot mentions that the real Elliott woke up for Darlene once, I guess this is that time

Menessy27 in the beginning of the video we see the real elliot, he remembers Darlene, remembers their halloween thing and alão he is wearing different clothes, the entire show literally we see mastermind and he is at all times wearing the black hood plus black pants, except in this scene with darlene, then for a moment the mastermind takes over and comes with the plan, and frankly i think this is the moment the mastermind takes over definetelly over the real elliot.

it’s the original Elliot. We know this because he mentions that he destroys the server room, but says he doesn’t remember any of it (in the series finale it’s confirmed that the mastermind did this, not mr. robot). when he puts on the mask and jacket the mastermind takes over and begins to formulate the plan to take down e corp.

@@bsol510 yeah, I thought it was Mr Robot, at first (I think that was the intention), but right now I looked how he crossed his arms, and Mr Robot wouldn't do that. he would talk with his hands while walking

everything in this show needs to be appreciate, everything. damn

I feel like this was the mastermind and Mr.Robot coming both in and out of control and normal elliot just sitting there like "bruh"

This is, quite literally, the best title opening in television history.

I like to believe that this is the one and only time.... (spoiler alert) we the audience saw the REAL Eliot in the REAL world. It was when he put on the Mr. Robot jacket and mask when the Mastermind completely took over, and would not let go anymore until the Hospital scene.

ALSO SPOILERS TILL THE END OF THE SERIES . . . . He is already burning the CDs at the start of this scene though, which is the Mastermind's thing, as he gets rid of evil people. Also, in the final episode, Darlene mentions that real Elliot wasn't there when she came back to town - just the Mastermind. So it is difficult to say whether he snaps out of it and becomes the real Elliot for a brief moment when Darlene appears in this scene, or whether this whole scene, we are simply watching what the Mastermind was like before he forgot he is just a personality and his memory got screwed up.

I (almost) 100% agree. (also spoiler alert) (Excluding some flashbacks to when he was a child though) before he puts on the mask, he seems way more surrendered and resigned to the shit that life has put him through, as the real Elliot is described to be. Its only when he puts on the mask that we see him want to make a difference and become more like the on-edge, wide-eyed Elliot we know. At first most presumed it was mr. Robot briefly taking over, but looking back after the series ended, the Elliot we hear under the mask sounds WAAYYY more like the Elliot we know from throughout the series (mastermind) than he does like Mr Robot. I do think that the mastermind already existed before this scene, but here we see him emerge briefly. So yeah, just thought I'd give my opinion as well haha

This is the best series I've seen in my life. I love every single part of it

Every time a new video is uploaded it takes me back to the time when i first watched that particular episode. I remember season 2 wasn't as well-received as season 1 but some of the most important moments are from season 2. It's so underrated. Now it's so much fun going back and re-watching the show knowing how it all ends. Every line of dialogue, every little detail means something.

Season 2 is when the show really came into its own. It explores the ramifications of Elliot’s actions, Darlene’s struggle to take his place in fsociety, Price and Angela’s connection, Dom’s introduction as an impartial party etc - it’s all amazing character and world building. I love Season 1 but it was a lot more quaint and simple in comparison.

Love scenes like this: where in a small space - tucked away from prying eyes - a seed has been planted that will grow to effect the world (for better or worse). Dozens of people nearby, and billions of people across the globe - go about their day, unbeknownst to them that something is coming that will greatly impact their lives; and it all started with one man, his idea, in this unremarkable (dimly lit) room.

*SEASON 4 SPOILERS AHEAD* Taking into account the end of the series, this scene has much more weight, because it is not the origin of Mr. Robot but his resurgence, he appears some time before Mastermind, both want to protect Elliot but in different ways, which creates the entire conflict for control between the two that is resolved in season 3

If you haven’t finished Mr Robot don’t read this comment! I love how we all thought this was Mr Robot emerging when we first watched this, but now we know it’s when the Mastermind comes up with his plan to take down E Corp.

I don't think it's the mastermind here. Don't forget that only Mr Robot knew the plan /Stage 1 and 2. He elaborates it, then he teaches it to The Mastermind. The mastermind, at the end, wanted to avoid Stage 2.

This whole scene blew my mind, I was like mr robot is just too good , unbelievable series, incredible, perfect, the music, the cast , sam Esmail what a genius. It’s like your favourite record, you have to watch it over again, and it’s so relevant with todays world

SPOILER for anyone who didn’t finish the series.. when I think about it, since the mastermind didn’t remember Darlene in s1, him asking her about panic attacks shows that this is the host Elliot. edit: also angela mentions elliot has been acting weird since darlene came back to ny. this night could be the night that mastermind was created.

Indeed, it should be. I'd like to think that they made us belive that this is when Mr. Robot was created, but it makes so much more sense that MM just had arrived. What i got in question is that Mr. Robot mentions that "He was the architect" of 5/9, but in other episodes he tells "You created this, you asked me for help. You're suposed to be my god and i'm suposed to be your prophet"

I believe so too. I just finished the show and i’m mindblown and have a bunch of mixed emotions, im kinda angry for this major plot twist because i grew close to the mastermind and thought it was a real person this whole time. I bonded with him. What i’m mostly curious about is how Elliot actually is after the ending. Is he still depressed? Is he the exact same as the Elliot we see in the world the mastermind created? Like, is he a happy, social, normal/basic guy etc. im also curious if he would start dating Olivia even tho he doesn’t know her?!? considering it was the mastermind who knew her.

I just finished the series. This is definitely the moment the mastermind was born. This also makes it the only scene where we actually see the real adult Elliot in the whole series.

Imagine if suddenly you blanked out at like halloween and woke up at like december next year and during the time you were blacked out you somehow unknowingly became an anarchist revolutionary terrorist.

I just finished bingeing all the seasons last week and this show is quality - it just pulls you in and lingers on in your mind and makes u wish there you could find other shows as good as this to disappear into.

The series is so crazy that one can't even skip for a second!! Love the cinematography of Sam Esmail, Thank you for creating this Show!♥️ First one!!

Nope, we never see the real Elliot in the whole series. The only time we kinda see him is at the end where his eye opens, he was also stated to have woken up when Darlene tells Elliot about Vera. But we never see that.

Watching this scene the first time when Elliot puts on the mask and has these sudden changes in mannerisms was so eerie to watch,Rami Malek really gave his all for this role.

On this scene, we see the real Elliot first, then the Mastermind takes over when he puts the jacket and mask, and then when the title appears...he is Mr. Robot. Using computer analogy, the malware (Mastermind) is taking over the PC (Elliot), so this one uses an antivirus software to deal with it (Mr. Robot).

MM Elliot genuinely didn’t know who Darlene was because when the show starts, he’s only a month old. Plus, he locked up “Real” Elliot in the fantasy loop, a loop that doesn’t include Darlene and that had the side effect of wiping his memory of Darlene. Worse, by the time he remembered Darlene’s existence, he’d already deluded himself into thinking he was the real Elliot. As for your other point, Mr Robot sent the hack to the MM to get him roped up in Fsociety. I understand why you might call it “Convoluted”, but I think it makes perfect sense.

in 7:51 the one talking that time was mr robot. mastermind was created in the coffee shop scene where he attempted his first hack.. when mr robot is in control he doesn't want to talk to Darlene and Angela i know you know the reason if you watch S1 but, when the mastermind is in control he talks to Darlene, angela, and Krista. spoiler allert. mr robot told krista the meaning of what he said in 7:51.

I think he became Mastermind when his coworkers locked him up in the server room which required him to see a Psychologist. In the final season the show stated his Psychiatrist mainly dealt with Mastermind but she never met Elliott.

I really wonder who he was "deleting" at the beginning of this scene, where he's writing on the cd. Never noticed this till now

I absolutely love 11:05. God bless the internet. Taking the show and filtering it down to edited clips on a youtube channel sounds, to everyone with a social media hardened brain, like a mundane and anti-dramatic task. You're supposed to gather as much of the original intent of the series as possible by simply showing the barebones clips of the release. You're not supposed to add anything else - maybe spice up some graphics and use the show OST as background music to set a mood for a bit while you link to other clips and some social media. And YET Using a mechanism any clip-watcher is familiar with, the editors chose to add an idea to the process. The clip ends with the same familiar show title in the same familiar graphics font as always, except with the loud bombastic entry of a jumpscare - PERFECTLY encapsulating the severity of the moment in the show. But YOURE NOT WATCHING THE SHOW. YOURE WATCHING A CLIP. You dont get that in the show.. It's just the outro. Except it's something more. I love seeing creative ideas pop up in the most unexpected places. Art and inspiration finds a way no matter what medium propagates it. God bless the internet.

Two things i noticed about this scene. The first is that darlene posting the movie and showing the mask left the first footprint for the fbi to connect darlene to fsociety. The second, is Darlene herself on the third watch of mr robot. Spoilers: did anyone find it really weird Elliot often doesn't see Darlene in pictures in flashbacks? I have a theory for it. I think Darlene is actually trans, Elliott doesn't remember her because she wore a different identity (a mask) as a child around. She remembers their sad poorly, likely because she was traumatized by him as well. It wasn't explored in the show as an actual plotline, but if you watch it carefully Elliot legitimately doesn't remember her at all. He remembers her in the sitcom episode the way she looks, not when she was younger (same for himself). We NEVER see a young Darlene once in the show. This same mask becomes her identity in some sense, the same one that incidentally attracts Dominique who also may be trans -- she's typically referred to as Dom.
