There's a video game series called bioshock that takes place in an underwater city and a city in a sky that is separated from the rest of the world. The two cities were advanced for their time. The city underwater was built in the 1940s/50s and the city in the sky was built in the 1890s. The technology in both cities took a different direction than the surface. So instead of cars they had robotic horses. And they would have mechanical entertainment too instead of televisions or computers. Analog media like records stayed and never turned to digital media like cds. It just became more convenient. So portable record players were widely used. And instead of cartoons, they had mechanical puppet shows The director of bioshock used to go to pinball arcades in the 70s as a kid. They had a variety of mechanical games. Explaining his obsession for them

When you open it up and I see all those gears, I know if I were to be the one doing it the thing will end up in the trash. There's no way I can figure that out! But then you explain it so easily that I find myself understanding what I thought was akin to magic. You have a really good style for teaching these complex contraptions.

A great video and superb fix. I remember games like this but to see the engineering inside is very interesting indeed! A point of note, WD40 and similar products will eventually pretty much dry out. A touch of oil or even grease after the WD has done it's job will ensure years more enjoyment.

The mecanical engineering in these things is amazing. Kind of ironic that these days it would be cheaper to do it in sotware on a microcontroler. Where as back then CPU's were expsive & also the display tech would not have been able to do it.

Reminds me of the time working back in the film industry, in Hollywood, and screwing in this big metal funnel on this pressure tank for the movie Asteroid. It was the dam explosion scene and I was putting together these water cannons. Any way, I had to listen to someone tell me that I am turning them the wrong way. It's just a eye roll moment because there's not much you can do except show them you know what you're doing.

I played on it for hours but the limitations of it got to me in the end where I didn’t play on it anymore. Randi, this is one of my favorite TOMY games to work on. I did a repair video on one of these, but you went much further in depth on the mechanics than I did. I rate this one a 'medium' on the difficulty scale. I think the Digital Daredevil game is more difficult because it has more gears, moving parts, etc. Can't wait to see your video on it. BTW, you're way of reassembly the gear box is easier than the way I've been doing it. Ya learn something everyday.
