The bills you got from the first guy were much older and valuable than from the second lovely old guy. Those are the newest drahma we had until 2001.

Yeah, but he got a steal to find that Brownie camera with the second guy!😁👍😉
The gentleman with the stand selling stamps and drachmas, besides being a crazy good sales person, actually gave you one bill with Alexander the Great. @23:41 it's the 100 drachma bill! 80s and 90s kids from Greece might recall carrying few Alexanders (100 drachmas) every day in their pockets to buy some snack during school. Thank you for the nice video and for visiting Athens!
beautiful market and friendly people of Greece and great video as always thanks for sharing Chris 👍
The antique shops are my favourite! You can find real treasures there! What I really appreciate is that, although it's a touristic market, shop owners let you take your time while they sit quietly on their chair. No pressure.I hope you enjoy yourself. ❤
This is a great video. I loved your interaction with the local people. All the guys you bought the old money from knew alot more about the history of the coins and it was obvius they wanted to give you more information but it was difficult for them to tell you in english. Solon (ΣΟΛΩΝ) for example was an ancient Athenian statesman and lawmaker and he tried to explain that to you saying he was something like a lawyer.

It would have to be done. Greek gold has always been a utopia. It has always belonged to the private individuals who owned the banks that had the monopoly of creating a "national" currency (drachma). When Greece adopted the euro, the gold left the country and returned to its owners. This is a part of history that unfortunately many of my Greek compatriots do not know.
Humble down-to-earth American who doesn't complain!! is something rare to watch :)
My mom is a collector of stuff too. She never throws stuff away. Crazy cause our garage is full of stuff too.

They same holiday I went to pella. To see where alexandra was born.

I love your videos, I just subscribed. The statues with the phallus depicts Dionysus. In ancient Greek religion and myth, Dionysus is the god of wine-making, orchards and fruit, vegetation, fertility, festivity, insanity, ritual madness. The phallus represents orgies because Dionysus was also known for orgy gathering festivals. I'm Greek by the way, was born in Athens but now live in Cleveland Ohio.

There are vases of many different qualities. Many of them are handmade and hand painted, some others are factory made and hand painted, some others are factory made and printed. If they have a seal in the bottom or a card around their "neck" with written information about their quallity it sais the truth. They would pay a fine if not. Also there are dublicate copies from ancient origimals {in the museums} which are the most expensive.

@@m.st.. 🤣 markets are so much fun! it's all about the hussle! let me share with you just a glimpse of how I have hussled in markets... two of us were selling flowers on a 36°C day...there was only one entrance and exit to this market and stalls on the way in were half full being it was too hot! so we decided to split the stock, take half to an empty stall across from where we were...as the customers started to walk past and go into the market, they saw my ridiculously expensive flowers, compared to the other stall. some even laughed and mentioned the guy before you had them half the price... little did they know it was controlled competition 🤣 we sold heaps that day. even I managed to convince a few that mine were better quality and would last longer than the cheaper ones! 😅 🤣🤣 true story... it's why i laughed hard at Chris when he mentioned he might have been hussled hard! ahaha 🤣🤣 glad you picked up on the humour 👍

Best place to immigrate in the 90s in South Europe. Especially back then the gap between Greece and with every other Balkan country was immensely huge. Nowadays unfortunately for us (Greeks)and fortunately for the others this gap has been decreased by a lot. Also with Albanians we have had many population exchanges for centuries. A big part of nowadays greek society has Albanian DNA and the other way around but less. They always tend to immigrate in Greece.
