CRAZY MAD DOG APPROACH😮 ‘REVISED’ DESCRIPTION
When I’m filming and chatting to the viewers, in this case Members, I’m always scanning the airfield for anything that’s interesting, but this one caught me right out as you’ll probably gather 😂
We’ve seen/filmed the Twin props taking this approach pattern into Rwy 33 using this tight left turn, so it’s nothing unexpected. But in the five times we’ve been here, we’ve never seen a DC9 make this same approach! Seems a late turn created that dramatic banking turn to adjust their line-up, but the whole correction is awesome, especially as they put it down so smooth - proper Freight Dog style 💪🏻
Here’s the official word from a viewer ‘afterburner33’ who was listening-in on ATC. It was a later change of runway…
The MD was on approach to 7, but was asked if they could take 33 by ATC due to the close trailing 747 behind them (who had raised concerns with ATC just prior about the spacing). The MD crew said they could take 33, and hence the late turn onto that runway.
That’s some handling skills, especially to put it down so smooth and on the centre line. Ex Airforce or Navy Carrier pilot maybe 🤔 so cool 😎

ATC "can you confirm todays cargo" PILOT "balls of steel"

Just outside Learmonth Airport, on the way to Exmouth, by the beach is a sign "Balls of Steel" - dating back to WW2 - large metal balls moored in the Gulf and used boats or barges during Operation Potshot - just made me think of this! Learmonth is a military and civilian airport - interesting place to fly through

That was a boatload of AoA he carried into -- and through -- that flare. Only way to do that is to fly very precisely.

@@Steve757-fl1hd {Suggest listening to the recording on LiveATC.} Before accepting the clearance change, the crew asks for a wind check (it was 320 at 4) and then took the clearance to land on condition of a long landing on 33. Obviously they were comfortable with the request to keep their base leg for 33 north of 7R and make a very short final instead of continuing for 7R. Crew's discretion ended up benefiting the BigJet TV members watching live. I wonder if Everts' pilots have send this vid around on email :)

Ever watch or fly the River approach into Washington National?
Reminds me of 1980 when I worked on the ramp at LAX. I'm sitting on a belt-loader (on a break) and a PanAm 747 is just starting its takeoff roll, when another PanAm 747 (cargo) was coming in on the same runway. I thought "this will be interesting". Suddenly, the approaching plane made a 35-40 degree bank to the left, and landed perfectly on the other runway. Barely any time between the bank recovery and touchdown... it was amazing and I'll never forget it.
Landed it like a Carrier pilot!

The man knows his machine very well. Nice flying!
This reminded me so much so much of the landings at Kai Tak (Hong Kong) back in the day. albeit at a lower altitude, I even looked for the checkered board. Nice catch Jerry.

Always enjoy the Anchorage shows but this last one was the absolute best. Thanks Jerry & Gilly!
No doubt an ex Navy pilot. 👍✈️
Hotshot! That was awesome seeing that live. Thanks to and shoutout to Anchorage ANC.
nice - hot shoe that bad boy. "Uh.. this is your captain speaking, ATC has asked us to use an alternate runway and, uh... hold on to your butts."
Beautifully executed ! Love DC-9 action, especially with those bucket type thrust reversers! Great catch BJTV !
Like something from an air show😮amazing , well done Jerry , loved the recent anchorage shows , thankyou Jerry and Gilly for amazing efforts ❤️❤️
Great approach. I remember being in a DC9 cockpit during approaches like that. Mind you, all Mad Dogs, all cable driven flight controls, all hyd, except the rudder, though cable controlled, hyd operated. All manual. Thanks for the video
Wow now There's some Skill for ya, Enjoyed watching it live. Thank you so much for the Anchorage Shows Jerry & Gilly, can never get enough of them !
That's just bad ass!! Dc9 is absolutely a pig to turn like that. Great video catch.
Amazing bit of pilot skill. Awesome 😊
The gasp at the start. Gerry almost had a heart attack I’d say🤣🤣
I was very lucky to see it live on the channel and it blew me away at the time😁That is seriously impressive piloting, I tried it myself in the sim but in the BAE 146 and I did manage it but it was so hard to make that tight turn😂

I can't stop watching this, I love Jerry's gasp at the beginning! Great catch though, incredible landing
That was an outstanding landing
Now there’s a pilot who’s got the whole flying thing sorted. Very competently flown.
flippin eck! giving me kai tak vibes, I love it!
Awesome, you managed to clip it. That was just epic to watch at the time, now saved for prosperity. Puts our pilots to shame, fair play to the pilot, balls of steel is an understatement! 😂
I've been waiting to watch this footage! I wanted to hear you Jerry, where's your audio in this clip? 😂
That was smooth…props to the pilot.
Now you can clearly see why they are called "maddogs" and not just the plane... Fecking awesome to watch 👍
They sure looked smooth, and it sure looked fun!
Watched it live. What a skill.
That is some sick pilot skills right there 😮
Omg,that was mesmerising, fantastic thank u big jet
Amazing use of rudder and side-slip. That guy is awesome.
Had one like that once in a Ryanair into Bournemouth. 180 degree turn, over the fence, and on the ground!
So pretty!! And the mountains look good too.
Nicely done!

Nailed it. Stabilized approach just before the numbers. Thanks for the clip.
Wow! I have never seen anything larger than a Beach 19 do this approach.

Very very well done NICE LANDING 🧑✈️🦅👌SS30
Amazing Approach 💯
Encore une autre belle observation aérienne 🙂👍👋
Back in the day, we used to make approaches like that all the time until they began to emphasize stabilized approach configuration and limited the minimums for low instrument circling approach procedures.
Capable aircraft and very capable pilots.
First time seeing something like this. Impresive
I love the curve!❤🎉
(Some) passengers love an approach like that. Others scream the house down; the only in-between is those suffering frozen awareness. I know it was a cargo flight, but I'd a loved to be on that one. I love the Mad Dogs. Nearly all gone now.
Absolute brilliance
