A guy name Murray Humphreys who was with The Chicago Outfit was the one who discovered the 5th amendment's application to the senate hearings. It had been used in court before but even Bobby Kennedy thought it did not apply outside of court and the mobsters would have no choice and nothing to hide behind. He once had a judge give Giancanna immunity which meant that he couldnt plead the 5th against self incrimination because he was immune and therefore had to answer or go to jail and off to jail he went. Giancana was blown away that Kennedy had figured out a way to take the shield of the 5th from him and put him in the position of having to answer or being jailed for it. Had he known that Kennedy had 70 something Carlos Marcello kidnapped and illegally deported to Honduras where he was dumped in the jungle and nearly died over the next 3 or 4 days of trying to reach any village or help of any kind he wouldve known that Kennedy could play dirty with the best of them. Marcello believed he was going to die after falling for the umpteenth time and breaking several ribs and told the man with him that he wasnt going to make it but the man would make it and for him to tell Marcello brother what that punk did to them and that's what killed him and to tell his brother the last thing Carlos said was do what you gotta do. If you go at Bobby then his brother unleashes the national guard on you but if you go after JFK then Bobby is no more and if it's done quickly with a patsy then a cover up would be necessary because of all that both Kennedy were illegally involved in like trying to kill Castro and bay of pigs disaster and many other dealings with CIA and Joe Kennedys deals with the mob. All those things and more made it impossible for a investigation to publicly uncover the truth without uncovering everything else. Marcello and Hoffa felt it was truly survival and it was or neither wouldve ever considered something as insane as trying to kill a president.

The fact that the Gallo crew was willing to back Joey in a second war against the boss of a family, and after he had just gotten released from a 10 year sentence, proves that he should’ve been the boss of a family. You can’t buy that level of loyalty. Edit: On top of commanding the respect of a large crew, the Gallo bro controlled the docks and other small rackets, and never broke Omertà.

On top of that, Joe Colombo deserves it, he deserves to get whacked. He appears on TV, He gives speech in an public rally, he's like John Gotti but 10 times worse...He get's to rule a family because he snitched his Boss Magliocco to Carlo Gambino on the Commission hit (which wasn't explained in the video, because this is the bigger picture). Magliocco and Bonanno conspires against Carlo Gambino and Vito Genovese for betraying *Lucky Luciano and Frank Costello* . Magliocco told Joe Colombo to do the hit, but Colombo informed the commission. Bonanno relocated to Arizona far from NY and the Magliocco were forced to abdicate the "Boss" title to Joe Colombo, giving colombo power over the family...all this *by snitching*. It's really complex, the politics of Mafia. But the balls for Bonanno for standing up against the commission for betraying Luciano though. It's probably Bonanno who approached Gallo and supported the hit against Colombo.

Charming, irreverent toward stifling social conventions like jailhouse racism, well-read, fearless of the consequences of taking on the most violence-prone organization in the criminal underworld, able to inspire belief of others in his eventual success in that project (which requires social skills and short-term planning that would be very challenging for a schizophrenic)

See if you can find a movie named Crazy Joe, pretty good movie with a pretty star studded cast, Eli Wallach, Paula Prentiss, Michele Gazzo and Gabriele Torrei (who were also in The Godfather), Peter Boyle is Joe, Rip Torn is Larry, Henry Winkler and Herve Villechaize, are in it too. I'd also recommend Kiss of Death, the movie that has Richard Widmark as Tommy Udo, the guy that Joe kind of modeled himself off of. In once scene Widmark pushes a crippled woman down the stairs in her wheelchair as a signal to her son, quite a role model. I have both in my library and usually watch them back to back about once a year just because I'm boring that way,

I like this video. Great production quality, excellent narration. Concise and journalistic; just the facts. Instant sub. We used to hang out by the sign on the corner of Hester and Mott as kids-for a while. Umberto's was a block and a half away. After Gallo, Ma cleared us out to Flatbush. Good times.

Joey was an autodidact, too; I'd be fascinated to hear his discourse on everything he read. Not right to diagnose across time, but meds maybe in childhood. He could have been a slam poet, professor....a monk. Yeah, we went there. Great uploads, gentlemen.,

This is one of the rare times when I've watched something about mobs and understood it well in one shot. I'm sure there were a lot of criss-crossing mob storylines that were tempting to mention, but decided against including because the script writers wanted to prioritize telling a clear story. I appreciate that a whole lot. The images of who you were referring to were perfectly timed to keep the viewer from having to spend time figuring out who it is; this preserves really good immersion. It's very interesting to see a character like Joe Gallo portrayed, given his murders and popularity. Those guys were all immoral, if not extremely immoral, for obvious reasons. Yet Gallo had a unique energy to him which makes it surprisingly believable that he would be liked by the public. I could picture a lot of citizens becoming in denial that he ordered kills, because of his symbiotic charm. So strange. Those couple interview details about the strategy of staying hidden (to avoid being killed by another mob) went a long way. I always felt that it was random luck who got killed by the mob. But i guess if it's mob Vs mob, then the game IS finding them in public before they find you. I'm not trying to glorify these awful killings though.

@@TheSteelDialga well Kant's moral theory is debunked and bashed on by most philosophers after Kant but the really interesting question is whether he saw himself as a cultural and revolutionary figure in the way Kant, Nietzsche, and Schopenhauer were; and, if he did, to what extent.
