CRAZY GOOD! - TOMMY'S MARGARITA | Master Your Glass

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

On this episode of MYG I am paying a visit to my “Fratello” Julio Bermejo who is going to show us how he makes his very own creation The Tommy’s Margarita with 3 different styles of Tequila.
A Tommy's Margarita is a variation on the Margarita that has a little more tequila and uses agave syrup instead of Triple Sec.
Ingredients:
- 2 oz (60ml) 100% Agave Tequila
- 1 oz (30ml) Fresh-pressed lime juice
- 1 oz (30ml) Agave syrup (50% Agave Nectar and 50% Water)
Garnish: None
Method:
Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker.
Add ice and shake.
Pour the contents (ice included) into a rocks glass.
The first version of the Tommy’s Margarita Julio makes for me is made with Patron Roca Silver. A Blanco-style Tequila made with 100% agave.
The second version of the Tommy’s Margarita Julio makes for me is made with Don Julio Reposado. A Reposado (rested) tequila is aged for a minimum of two months; many from three to nine months. The barrels mellow the flavors of a blanco and impart a soft oak flavor while giving the tequila a light straw color.
The third version of the Tommy’s Margarita Julio makes for me is made with Tapatio Extra-Añejo Tequila. Extra-Añejo tequilas spend over three years in barrels and have a rich and bold flavor profile with caramel and vanilla notes.
About Julio Bermejo
Julio is the most reliable Tequila expert on the globe. His Bar, Tommy’s Mexican Restaurant in San Francisco, was voted one of the top 50 bars in America and carries the world’s largest collection of 100% Agave tequilas.
In 1990 at Tommy’s, Julio created this refreshing cocktail, now 30 years later the Tommy’s Margarita is a staple!

I was introduced the Tommy's Margarita when I was studying for my CSS (Certified Specialist of Spirits). It is the most awesome margarita. I use Fortaleza Blanco, I do like that the video used Patron Roca. Both are really great Tequilas made in the traditional way. Using the best and freshest products is really worth the value received in a great cocktail. After watching this, I will have to try using my favorite Tequila of all times... Fortaleza Anejo...just need to run to the store for fresh limes.

I ended up buying mini bottles of Don Julio Blanco, Reposado, and Anejo after seeing this. I made all 3 into tommy's margaritas and was surprised how different they were. This drink is really like a blank canvas to showcase the best of whatever tequila you choose. I guess in that sense it's a bit like an old fashioned, I love the simplicity of it.

An interesting video. I tried that with agave juice the long drink. Perfect 💯✨. Thank you too. I bought the juicer and cut off the lime at the end. Great presentation. 😘❤

I wish my local stores near me sold limes that juicy. They are all pretty dry here. I can't seen to find that Extra Anejo anywhere either.

9:28 what does he mean when he says "tequila is the slowest of the slow food alcohol's in the world"

  • @MasterYourGlass

    @MasterYourGlass

Since an agave plant takes anywhere from 6 to 10 years to mature (and there are different opinions on that, It is a slower food spirit than any other. As an example, a grape will only take four months to mature.

@@MasterYourGlass Thank you for explaining. I did wonder if that is what he meant but I'd not heard it put like that before. Yes the process of making tequila is one of the reasons why its my favourite.

bruschj Hi bruschj, Thanks for reaching out. I spoke with Julio and he responded that quite literally agave distillates are derived from a raw material that to this day is not gmo in any way and has the longest maturation time in the world for any raw material one makes distillate with. It sounds like you are familiar with the Slow Food movement started by Carlo Petrini in Piemonte. Cheers!

Master Your Glass Thanks for getting back to me! I had no idea that it took Agave that long to mature, just looked it up, 7 years!? And I had maybe heard of the slow food movement in passing but only after you mentioned it have I dug deeper and am now fascinated. You have at this point tought me a few things! Thank you for getting in touch with Julio, and for the great work you do with Master Your Glass. Keep up the good work!!!
