A pro like him probably wouldn't, but there was a base jumper who nearly did that. You'll find it on YT.

I jumped for German wings. As you can see there are no safeties. No shouted commands from the stick. The jm actually extends out the door to "peak" the dz (Not done by US jm anymore) but they used to.

When did US JMs stop doing the external visual check? I only jumped at Abn school in 94 (C-141s) D Co, late May rotation. First jump on 6 June D Day 50th Anniversary weather canned our historic opportunity. One of my JMs just came from the 82d was a tall AA SSG whose door demeanor was robotic. Imagine Michael Winslow (human beatbox) as you JM. Dude was legend. Ran the MG demonstration team for our ROTC camp the summer before at Bragg.

NOTHING "crazy' here....just a normal, uneventful, everyday static line jump......FAIL

I don't know about crazy. I was in the American Army's version (82nd Airborne Div) and leaning out to check the aircraft and sight the dropzone was pretty standard. As to why anybody would want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane, well, if the German's are like ours they are built by the lowest bidder. Perfectly good is relative. Yeah, its flying but....

it isn't crazy. before a jump, the jump master needs to inspect the doorway, and exterior of the aircraft, and confirm alignment with the drop zone. His static line is hooked up, so if he falls out of the aircraft his chute will deploy, but he might not land in a very good place.

Roger that. I jumped Martin Caidin's Tanta Ju "Iron Annie' at the CAF Airshow in 1979 and it's a feat of gymnastics to get out that low door. And can you imagine the opening shock those poor old Fallschirmjager experienced with the CANOPY-LAST deployment? Ouch!!!

That's webbing called a static line. It is snapped onto the anchor line cable you see running the length of the cargo bay, and connects to the bridle loop at the top of the canopy by a piece of cotton web just strong enough to hold together long enough to extract the chute from the parachute pack and out of the deployment bag within, at which point it breaks apart freeing the jumper's chute from the yellow static line.

Most people progress to freefall when jumping from aircraft. The rest are wizards.

Nothing crazy about this - just a clean fatigue (no equipment) drop. My guess is the aircraft is a prop Transaal (I've also had the pleasure of jumping from one of these - many moons ago).

U.S. procedure has a lot of back & forth 'call & response' between the JM and the stick, with several inflight checks up and down the stick at different time hacks (10 minutes, 5 minutes, etc., if I'm not mistaken). The Germans don't do any of that shit at all. It's all individual equipment checks with signalling by hand, body language and eye contact. Makes sense in a very loud aircraft.

I was referring to the leaning out the door to inspect the exit path and confirm position on the drop-zone. The video said the jump master was crazy. The US army does that also. Yes, the US Army has a step-by-step call and response process getting everybody ready to go.
