The best rc channel for learning 4x4 mechanics!

I absolutely love my ryft. Sensored and low gear is a must imo. I locked all three with jb weld in the axles and the kit locker in the Center. I have the most fun with paddle tires in gravel quarries. It’s very satisfying to find a Rhythm bouncing over insane terrain. There’s not much that will stop the ryft it will do pretty much anything. Most fun rc I’ve ever owned.

This is best build/run video of the Axial Ryft that I have seen to date. I've been on the fence about the kit but I will continue to watch your evolution of Ryft and your final thoughts.

You don't have a truck on leaf springs yet... That Ryft looks like a lot of fun. I don't think I could keep up with it in the woods and I know it would piss off the hikers.

That old sensored motor was much better than I would have guessed. With a good motor esc combo you should be able to have the drag brake hold in 1st and come to a controlled stop in 2nd. I got it to work in my Wraith 2 speed build with a 1080 esc and a holmes 550.

I just picked one of these up for 249$ on the Horizon Summer Sale or whatever. I threw a Castle Copperhead and a 1415 2400kv sensored motor in it with the stock pinion. Yeah its a monster but it seems to have an appropriate amount of power for the way I drive. I do want to gear it down a few teeth on the pinion but that's about it. I bought this specifically because I don't have another rig like it. A unique driving experience. Thanks for the build series and this run video. Gave me some food for thought. I dig your other videos too. You earned a sub sir.

What creates heat? Current and resistance. Indeed nothing wrong with rotating part but likely a damaged wire with high resistance. Even sitting still there is current flowing to hold it still.

you could just slap on a heatsink and/or fan on that motor and maybe not have to worry about it. Now I'm slightly sad I didn't get in on that Horizon spring sale :( Outrunners come in 1400kv, but might be too much, the Spectrum version of the Hobbywing Fusion comes in 1400kv....

Look man not 1 negative comment. You really pissed me off when yours ran perfectly compared to mine. Rtr no sway bar and I locked my diffs. Mine rolled everytime you turned at any speed over crawling. But a now I keep mine in the the car most days. It really can do it all if you get the right combo.love the videos.

Epic dust clouds and rooster tails with the Ryft. That thing looks like a hoot! The throttle bumps sure launch that thing up the rocks and makes it look really light. There's a local group here in Washington running a U4 series and they'll run at various rocky tracks around the state. It's mostly north of me so I've never gone to one. Seeing this, I would bet to see it in person would make me really want one

It does drive light-- but on the scale (as I neglected to mention in any video) it's basically 9 pounds dead (8.994lbs) with the alloy beadlocks, a chonker of a battery, and the Spektrum 1900. I'm gonna keep my eye on it's final weight, but based on the sheer size of it, 9 pounds seems about right. Same situation for me with U4-- there's apparently a course up in Johnson Valley (where they run actual 1:1 offroad stuff as well, and there's no way I'm making that drive. Just drop off some more rocks in the yard and I'll build it myself.😂

@@CrawlerCanyon Johnson Valley always looks epic. My introduction to rock crawlers was full size Toyota's and being a member of the old Marlin Crawler forum. I have an '87 with a solid axle swap and TRD elockers. I've done the Rubicon and slick rock trail in CA with it since my first 40 years were spent around the bay area. I find RC crawling to be far less stressful since my 1/10 isn't my ride back home 😂

Thank you very much for doing this series on the rip that is my Apex of RC cars I hope to own one one day you did an excellent job and I appreciate the cost quote you included in the video it gives me great hope I can't wait to watch its evolution in your hands

I definitely believe that the people having issues started with the RTR. So if and when you decide to pick one up, 100% go with the kit-- and wait for another Horizon sale. I don't know if it's $400 worth of fun, but mine arrived on the doorstep for $240 total, has $0 worth of electronics in it (at the moment) and is a total blast.

I don't know if u seen the video of the first one RCsparks got when it first came out. He immediately put an extra set of damper shocks on the back with no springs to stop the antiroll that was before axial or anyone for that matter made the optional torsion bar. And thats what the full size or 1:1 does to stop they're torsion roll

Really enjoying the content you're making. Could you try silicone ear plugs to lockup the diffs some more?

I think the next step is going to be heavier oil in the front and spool the rear. All-spooled will probably kill any kind of high-speed stability, and I want to try to balance the rig between "let's go up some rock piles" and "let's rip dusty cyclones until all of the moving parts are squeaky."

Wow. After watching a few other youtuber videos on the Ryft a while back, I had written it off as a no-go. Of course, all of those were on the RTR. And, I have considered that Horizon just put the wrong motor/esc combo in the RTR version... AND without including the sway bar! It was like they didn't know if they were creating a rock crawler, rock bouncer, or a basher... Basher power delivery with live axles and long travel suspension/high CG, just didn't seem to gel too well... But, now, watching your video series on the Ryft, you have me seriously reconsidering... May have to keep an eye out for a sale on the builders kit version now. Looking forward to your developments... Maybe lock the rear diff, add some heavier oil in the front, pinion down and you may have a decent crawler low speed control in 1st, combined with some rip in 2nd... Now you have me wondering how the 1800kv Fusion would do in this rig... Been curious to try one, but having heard they were slow, was a bit hesitant for my current rigs. But, with the two speed of the Ryft, it just might work very well...

I had the same thoughts pre-build: live axles, long travel, tall tires... it's gonna be a mess. I imagine that this thing without a swaybar in the rear must just be a traction rolling monster. Combine that with actual differentials and it likely doesn't do much of anything very well as an RTR. The kit is pretty good at a lot of things, and I honestly don't think it will take a whole bunch of stuff to make it properly great.

Yeah the builders kit gives you all the extra parts, to lock diffs, 2 speed, and the sway bar. Plus the cage is dyable so whatever color you want or paint the hell out of it lol. I just got mine in the mail today. Action is about to go down

Lock every diff, yes Dab the trigger when going over rocks ,,watch madram11/1.1 class and rc class and ,hillninjas

I'm sure ur aware that thing runs 4's in the RTR version. And it's a totally different animal on 4's v 3's. U get the optimal performance on 4's

I have a couple of non-crawlers that are everyday on 4S, and the Ryft will not be joining them. I feel it's a little too zesty on 3S with a 2200, really. Recommending 4S (which I imagine Axial does) is how you sell more parts. As I said, the Ryft is beefy by crawler standards, but put it next to a Losi 8ight and see what a 4S rig generally looks like-- the shocks have 4mm shafts and the motor is held in place by clamps. CLAMPS.
