Crater Lake Lodge

Sitting on the rim of beautiful Crater Lake, the lodge is one of our favorite places to stay during tours of the national parks. The prize at the lodge is the "Great Hall" where guests converse, read, and play board games, often near a huge gas fireplace.

Before the restoration, the Lodge used to moan and groan at night from the timbers contracting after a long hot summer day and the floors would creak slowly as guests walked down the hallways, only to slowly recover and creak again after the person was long past walking on them. The pipes would sometimes thump when the water was turned off suddenly in the kitchen, and the sounds the building would make at night would scare the bejesus out of the guests who were silly enough to believe in the ghost stories the staff and Rangers use to tell. As a summer worker during the late 1960's and a Native Oregonian, those sounds of the building were like a comforting blanket to a person who cherished that structure and it spoke to me every day that I was there. I cherished those "conversations" but sadly the restoration took a lot of that old charm out, but thankfully it did save a wonderful piece of Oregon history.

Nice video tour! For the 2-queen beds and 1-queen bed rooms you showed us, are these the "DELUXE Queen Lake View" category? There is the "STANDARD Queen Lake View" category but I think the windows are odd-shaped or dormer style windows (aka roof window).

As we remember, Standard rooms face west and away from the lake while Deluxe room face the lake. The truth is, we would choose the least expensive option since little of your time will be spent in the room. We sometime stayed in a first-floor room when the window was covered with snow.

Where is the TV? If the room has no TV, I can't stay there. Have to have a TV so I can watch all the wonderful news about what is going on in the world. The news is always so uplifting and encouraging.
