You cant use bombers pass tier 3, the fighters climb better and faster than you. Bombers need a more high spawn point or they become useless

i couldn't agree more. i have been playing war thunder for 2 years now first on the pc and now i play on ps4 but this past year is when i really started getting into bombers. me and a few of my freinds have been saying for months now that bombers need a higher airspawn. heavy bombers spawn at 14,000ft and medium bombers spawn at 12,000ft. the heavy bombers really should spawn at 20-25,000ft and medium bombers should spawn at 14,000ft. this and buffing the durability for bombers is the only way to make bombers enjoyable.

Most of us are still trying to not kill ourselves when grinding out our respective tech trees. Escorting bombers doesnt help with the grind. Flying with a wingman does, but at the same time can slow down research if not being done correctly

I don't even bother trying to ask for an escort because I know the result is either 1) no response, or 2) people criticize me for not playing a fighter instead. Moral of this? Learn how to avoid fighters on your own and don't beeline for the bases unless you're using jet bombers, A-26C, or Do 217s. Your best bet in most bombers is to turn around at the beginning of the match and side-climb because other bomber pilots don't understand why flying in formation is a good idea (I've stopped trying to tell bombers to fly together because they never listen) and they're pretty much useless due to that. Get up to around 5,000m, then turn around and continue climbing towards your base of choice before leveling out at around 6,000m (idk what that is in ft.... maybe 25,000-30,000?) and bomb from that alt. When heading back to the airfield, drop to 0% throttle and start a long, shallow dive towards the airfield. Depending on which bomber you're using, you may be able to handle some altitude-burning maneuvers if you find you aren't descending fast enough. Bombers require just as much skill as fighters- the only difference being that most of that skill is directed towards surviving long enough to drop your bombs and head back to the airfield. It really helps to know the way most enemy fighters will climb on certain maps and use that to decide which base has the lowest risk involved. And if you're in a fighter and find yourself near bomber altitude, keep an eye on them because, at the very least, you could end up getting an easy kill on a fighter that ends up going tunnel vision on that bomber (I've gotten quite a few kills that way). And even if you don't, odds are they'll dive to avoid you, which can lead to you having altitude advantage over them if you end up in a 1v1 against them. You don't need to hover around the bomber, but try to be close enough to engage in a reasonable amount of time. It's funny how many times I've watched an enemy fighter hover by 1-2 bombers on his team for a couple minutes, only to dive to attack someone that isn't a direct threat to the bombers at that moment in time, giving me an opening to go for the bombers.

Its like saying "I only ride bikes so I think we could fix our cities issues by removing all parking lots adding in more bike racks and turn the old lots into parks for kids to play in." 2.7-4.0 USA, most of them are real money makers. :) Who can't gather lions with other vehicles to spend on the expansive ones are such cheap guys, but yeah I feel you :) Mostly I own 1,5m max, but researching the last 17 missing regular airplanes from every nation alltogether comes with this :)

There were usable in Air AB before the cannon buff, they could just tank so much bullets, giving you plenty of time so pilot snipe anyone getting on you. Now it's just instabig mode.

I played my French pb4y heaps of times after update, not a single game I got a kill or even managed to drop a bomb on base, before 1.79 I had a kd oF well over 1 in it now it’s about half

Bombers Pro-tip: Don't. Do not play bombers based On the reason that there is No way bombers can bomb stealtily or return fire effectively with weird camera angles screwing with aiming That's the Pro-tip

6:13 given that most players only want to make money and research points, most of them (if not all) will leave the bombers on their own. Adding an achievement/reward for escorting the bombers would make other players escort the bomber willingly.

“Climb Higher”. If I spawn in at 15,000 which should be moved to 20,000, I still have to climb to 23,000 for some chance of survival and by then the Bf-109 are already above me even though they took off from the Airfield

Most games you can get into a formation if there are 3 or 4 bombers but good luck getting escorted. The fighters don’t want to climb that high or don’t look at the chat i only had 1 escort and he was in my squad.

keithhall652 that's why I always write: stay high! enemy fighters will focus on you and will be easy pray to me, I, as a fighter can completely blindsight a fixated enemy and easily shoot them down!

You know what Gaijin, instead of asking for teammates for escort, spawn 2 slightly lower BR AI fighters to escort bombers. That helps with the "bomber spreading on different targets" situation, helps the game move quicker

Gaijin says when doing the bomber get up high where the fighters cannot go. My experience is no matter how high you go the fighters are already there. Pet peeve, when you respawn in a bomber you're lucky if you make it 5 seconds before being shot down since you spawn right in the middle of enemy fighters.

Be careful not to run into a fly or it'll punch a hole straight through the entire aircraft. Don't turn too fast for the wings will snap off, as they are held by rubber bands and dreams.

A formation is a group of oh, a few dozen bombers flying together to provide cover fire for each other and hopefully not all get shot down. Kinda hard to do when you normally will only have 1 or 2 of the same type of bomber on a map:P

Its called INVITE TO SQUAD. Normally if i fly in formation its 3-4 players in the same exact bomber or another one that can keep up and we all slow or rev up engines to fly in formation using voice coms to match speeds. And its just brutal as in formation you don't move much so you can all hit V and manually fire on targets and bomber hunters are almost always solo players so its just wonderful watching 3-4 sets of turrets fill the sky with tracers they are just fucked.

To bad you nerfed rp gains for destroying ground targets with bombers or attackers. Since patch 1.77 gaijin is showing the middle finger to all players that use bombers or attackers, by reducing bomb and rocket damage, lowering rp gains, cannon buff ( this one was actualy a needed change), and now you do a video on how to improve your bomber skills? Your developers have a twisted sense of humor.

Mistake Number Six: You believe you are usefull In RB you are spotted by the enemy fighters from 20+ kms. This distance is more than enough for them to attack you in face to face. No matter how many gunners are you have if they all shot backward. If you are lucky and reach the enemy ground units or bases, your actions aren't counted. 5 tanks destroyed? Whos care? The air battles aren't more than a Team Deathtmatch. If your team die, you will lose the battle and you aren't help your team to win if you play with a bomber. This is sad, but true...

Mistake Number Six: listen to scrubs like Kulsos here. I can do 30-50 ground kills in low tier bomber in AB, as in one french bomber I can kill over 50 ground targets I could leave after its shot down and still be highest scoring player not just on my team but whole match, git gud son. In RB I can get 1-3 kills with my gunners if manually aim, and drag people into traps for my teammates. I mean if don't get at least one kill I get 2-3 assits, and normally live long enough to drag 1-2 fighters right under scrubs like you's nose so you can dive for an easy kill on them. hell 2/3 times I survive whole match in a bomber, meanwhile scrubs like you even hand fed kills are lucky to get 1 assist then die faster then I did.

Back to RB: Killing enemy fighters with gunners is one thing, play as a BOMBER is another thing. The main problem is the USEAGE of the bombers. You play as an AC-130 GUNSHIP while I want to play with the bombers as a BOMBER. In WT, no matter what are you do with the enemy ground units, if you don't kill some enemies, your team has a bigger chance to lose the battle.

Yep not true since Ive seen bomber rescuing single handle a game in RB cause of sloppy fighters and interceptors. So they are vial for success

Good luck getting any support from a random player flying a fighter. They always ignore or outright refuse. As for other bombers staying in formation? Good luck with that. Bombers or Air RB battles need to be reworked to help better accommodate them into the battle. Not only this but bombers have no real impact on a battle. Perhaps reduce the amount of bombs needed to destroy a base and airfield?

Literally EVERY. SINGLE. TIP you gave is not viable in the game meta.

This video is a sick joke to any and all bomber players. "A few good hits"? Bombers can be taken down with one little burst from one fighter, which isn't exactly accurate. "Never drop altitude. Always stay high up." You're kidding, right? Once you get to a certain altitude, you're no longer able to see your target because of the massive clouds. If you're not above the clouds, the fighters are coming to pick you off. If you're above them, you can't see below, and enemy fighters are still coming for you. You nerfed RP gain that goes toward ground strikes. Bombers are useless in arcade mode, alone in realistic battles, and simulators only have fighters because nobody wants to play bombers there. Right now Gaijin, your so called, "bombers", are just an excuse for you to say you have lots of "historical elements" in your game. My great grandfather piloted a B-29 Superfortress during World War II, and hearing his stories, I wanted to fly the bombers just like he did. However, I have to say, it sickens me that every bomber experience I've had I was just getting picked off by usually ONE fighter who climbed up high enough to get only me. My pilot was easily sniped, an engine caught fire from one stray round, or hell, a thick steel wing just snapped like a toothpick. I'm disgusted, truly I am. The aircraft element in this game is favored only for the fighters and light attackers. Anything heavier is regarded as useless.

Beast I'm slowly ranking up my British bombers and heavy fighters. I've gotten my Japanese fighters and interceptors to 3.0 but something about the British aircraft was just alluring to me. I'm hoping players as I rank higher will be more resourceful and help achieve victory with my and other bomber players aid. But as far as I've seen it's just a bunch of fighters players going around one shooting each other and filling my bombers with holes...

That's very true, bombers are the worst balanced vehicles in War Thunder, which is a shame because these are so iconic and the biggest threat to ground forces and structure in general. Gaijin is very disconnected from their game and its meta, not climbing is a mistake, seriously? Maybe in tier 1-3 bombers, but after that every fighter and even heavy fighter climbs higher than you and only need to burst to kill you. My approach would be to make the bombers more survivable. Bombers like the Stratofortress, Flying Fortress and some heavy Soviet machines should take a lot of damage unless they hitting engines or something like that. And gunners should be more dangerous, especially in arcade so you don't get picked of so easily.

Mistake Number 6: listening to people like this. I play as bomber main all the time in arcade can score up to 50 ground kills in a single t1 bomber. In tank RB I can get 3 or so ground kills and if lucky 2 air kills with an attack aircraft. in Boats I can take out a naval bomber like SBD-3 I think it was and get 3 air kills, and 4 ship kills... You need to git gud kiddo

Zalzany *plays arcade mode* lost all credibility just like that. Anyone can play arcade and do decent. Its called arcade for a reason. And ground rp cas isn't even hard either. You can kamikaze as a bomber and kill so many players.

I just play as a bomber because they look cool

Me: *tells my team these tips* Them: "Shut up noob" Also them: *flies at 300m with a b17 to bomb ground vehicles*

Idea: Make two separate air RB modes, one focused on bombing, one focused on fighters. Teamwork will become a more likely occurrence if the entire team share a common goal, even if they are in completely different types of aircraft.

That’s honestly the best idea. They need to make clearer boundaries between the goals of air battles to the point two separate modes would be ideal.

If you made bombers their original durability and buffed ai gunners more then bombers would be viable planes to play again. Ai gunners should not fire at the max distance of .61km fully lvled. It should be at least .80km fully lvled

Yeah its pretty retarded since everyone engages you at minimum distance of 1.5km and your gunners don't even seem to see them unless they are less than half a kilo away from your plane.. with an aced max crew. Wasted my money to accelerate training on my BV238 to find the gunners are still dumbass retards.

I remember in one RB match when I teamed up with 4 other B-17 bombers, we were being fired at by flak, with a small fighter escort. It was epic.

*SUGESSTION* Why dont you make the gameplay a little more deeper, it would work so well for air rb and its not even that hard. *Here* , Make bases produce tanks which capture points and fight other teams tanks, you have bombers that destroy those bases and give an edge to their team, attackers help fight off tanks and fighters protect bombers and engage other fighters. Also maybe have bases that produce pillboxes and aa there are no limits, why are you relying only on fighter v fighter combat to make the game interesting if it could be so much more, this would make all aircraft types work in game and not make them useless

That actually sounds really neat. A lot of other multiplayer games work under similar ideas: the most memorable part is the clashes with other actual players, but the thing that actually wins you the game (or at least makes your victory far more certain) is the giving your stream of AI forces the edge to overwhelm your opponents' counterparts.

Bombers are usles in RB you cant fly in formation there 3 bombing point spread in the map. In AB have more sense because you need multiple drops for finish each base.

Then why there is so many noobs on Sunderlands when i try to fly on Japanese Ki-27 or Ki-43? Sometimes WHOLE enemy teams fly on Sunderlands. Once i decided to fly on Hurricane... and i was ONLY player on a fighter in British team! Players on Sunderlands started to laugh at me, saying "wow, fighterfag"!

That is not so much the fault of the pilots. When you think of map design and consider what Gaijin put in place as priorities - it is awfully difficult to stay in formation. In addition, there are morons on every level who fly fighters and are too lazy and too arrogantly stupid to escort a bomber. Still to be fair, Gaijin makes sure any fighter plane which was specifically designed to be escorts for bombers, are given too low an air spawn and too far away to ever catch up to the bombers to give them an escort. Which is something which really pissed me off about this video showing fighter escorts when Gaijin went out of their way to make sure bombers never get an escort. Gaijin needs to make sure fighter escort planes, like the P51 as an example are given the proper spawn to be there beside the bombers. AS for those lazy morons who refuse to even try to give a bomber an escort all I can say is: Do not ever go fly a fighter in IL2 Sturmovik, because if you are given the job of escorting bombers or attackers and feel you are just too good to do that job, you will quickly find yourself removed from the squad and face penalties. If you are given the job of escorting attackers and/or bombers you bloody well better be there to do the job. This is something which has probably never ever crossed the minds of anyone at Gaijin. I guess it is just too complicated for them. And there in lies the whole problem with bombers and escorts in War Thunder. Something which was really over looked in this video. In IL2 Sturmovik, you are instructed to not leave the formation. If you spot enemy fighter a few kilometers off you are to ignore them. You only attack fighters which are a direct threat to the bombers or attackers. Often the enemy will send in a squadron of fighters to distract you and lead you away from the bombers or attackers and then a second wave comes in to attack the bombers or attackers. The experienced pilot will see what is happening and stop chasing the first wave of fighters and quickly head back to their charge and cover them. This is the what Gaijin needs to put in place. OTHERWISE wasting 70k lions on a bomber which is doomed from the beginning is nonsense. All I use to fly were bombers. Now because of Gaijn's kissing the butts of the cry baby lazy fighter pilots, and jacking the costs to ridiculous costs, then lowering the rewards to useless and jacking the costs of bombs - who the hell wants to fly bombers anymore.

That’s why you fly to each base together and have one person drop their bombs on one base, another drop their bombs on a second, and so one. Basically, think of it as escorting each other.

As a high level bomber the game punishes you if you fly in a formation. You will only reach 0 to 1 bases before the fighters intercept you. Only 1 bomber is needed to kill a base. If a 4 bomber formation flys to a base, 1 player gets a base kill and one enemy fighter gets 4 bomber kills. Better odds of getting a score if you scatter and hope that you are the bomber that the fighter flys towards last:P

I one time flew alone at 5000m to the bombing target in a b17, I was intercepted by 3 bf 109’s all at once and took every single one down. Most heart racing moment I’ve ever had in a match of warthunder

US Army Air Forces gunners defended B-17 Flying Fortress and B-24 Liberator bombers against fighter attacks with machine guns aimed by hand (“flexible guns”) and electrically-powered gun turrets.

well when i fly my B29 my gunners do nothing... even with full skills...

Yeah they need to improve AI gunnery so that bomber pilots dont have to juggle flying, aiming bombs and gunning at the same time. Or come out with 2 player bombers where 1 flys and bombs and one guns and navigates. But Gaijin only loves money and not improving the game by adding better maps or modes!

And mine do pretty well in my bombers but mind you big ones like b29 I would rather manual fire no reason to not your not in a SB or a fighter bomber why the hell are you not gunning it yourself? I mean are you that newb who pulls up trying to jink tripling the size of your wings, engines and fuselage going "come drop your ammo load here big boy," or what? In a big bomber anything minus A D, and Rudder usage will triple if not more the size of your plane to the enemy fighter... plus make it harder for the gunners to hit anything.

your B29 gunners maybe not, but my low-lvl Ju 88 gunners do! and I myself - mostly cuz with the Ju 88 you are able to stretch the hunt so loooong that they will end up right behind you 95% of all times - and that is where none wants to be once all three turrets start unloading all their rounds (trust me - against the Ju 88 A-4 it hurst ALOT to get hit by it's turrets - even though they are 7.92mm its still 4 of them pointing right on your engine, pilot and wings)

Bombers at tier 1-2: ahahaha, what you could possibly do to me, i'm at 7000 already Bombers at tier 3-7: What could I possibly do, i'm only at 7000...

Higher altitude? I'm running into Spitfires, Typhoons and P47s at 5000m, getting pilot sniped and crashing while my gunners just stare at them doing nothing.

At the start of a random air arcade game, I usually select a fighter and try to see if there are any bombers on my team, if there are bombers, then I end up sorta escorting it. When I’m flying a bomber, I usually end up flying alone, and there aren’t any enemy aircraft because their all dragged into the massive dogfight in the center of the map, if someone does end up coming to get me, one of my teammates usually comes out of nowhere and kills them

Exactly for me, except when someone tries to get up to me, at low BR they just can't and at high BR I die because I have no friends on War Thunder and my teammates were all dragged into the massive dogfight you were talking about. Occasionally the fighter who is attacking me will have someone on their tail from a previous dogfight, and then I will get saved by a teammate. Other than that, nobody helps really.

The only winning move in the current meta is not to play. That wont change until Gaijin decides to make lasting changes to shake up the gameplay, unfortunately they seem excessively reluctant to do anything apart from run a few minor tests of things like EC every now and then.

Heck, I would just be happy with them replacing air RB with enduring confrontation. Preferably with a few tweaks to it, but even as it sits now it is a vast improvement for playing as a bomber in a RB setting.

Almost anything at this point, but I personally always enjoyed the EC events they put up, felt like every aircraft had a role in that mode, Gaijin seems to be endlessly putting it on for a weekend to test, then nothing happens. In ground RB I wish they would do more with the spawn point system to balance teams, its really frustrating to get unluckily knocked out in the first moments meaning you are relegated to playing an AA, worse still this tends to create a snowball effect where one team wins decisively, you dont get back and forth games which is a shame, because they are by far the most fun, for both sides. Lastly world war mode, I was delighted to get an invite as a tester, but Ive only ever had one limited chance to play it as they test it so infrequently. Scoutings another great improvement, but there is almost no reward for doing it. Its a shame because I feel Warthunder has gone from strength to strength in terms of content and graphics, but the core gameplay has always been neglected or a comprimise.

Wild1234 Yeah but those take hours, how about making another Enduring Confrontation instance but with RB controls and RB tank spotting (You have to spot enemies yourself and no enemy markers appear).

It would be really cool to have bomber formation so the fast climbing fighers can't kill u so easily but the bomber players are fighting over who gets the bases and not to work like a team.

Narrator: "Ask your random teammates for help." Me: "Defend the objective" Teammates: "I refuse" "no" "negative"

average bomber experience: fly up high in formation, one fighter with the climbrate of a Lunar rocket pulls up, everybody dies, fighter continues to fly, fighters in team stay low or do the same with enemy bombers

I play as a fighter to escort my buddy in a bomber, you're pretty much boned if there's more then one but your best shot to save your buddy is like he said, drag the enemy fighter down into combat to distract it

I showed this to my inexperienced friends and it helped them a lot. Now we can do bombing runs in formation on the battlefield! Bombers are my favorite aircraft and I am glad that you are teaching the people who are in need of information on bombers. Thank you!

Do not play with bombers, with the new cannon upgrades, knocking down a bomber is so easy.

some enemy fighters are going up high same high as the bombers go and what they do is going to hunt down heavy bombers. This just makes the bomber users more harder to play.....

Do you guys remember the Japanese bomber that has a 13 second turn time?

Ore simply use the B-34 and enjoy the following Things: - Almost nobody can catch you - Lower the enemys at 1.3 km distance and burst fire .50 cal them to death. - Outmanover Every Bomberhunter and some Fighters. - After dropping bombs go bomberhunting yourself with you brilliant board weaponry

Only bomber worth playing. Also it seems to me that it's the only one that can take more than one hit without falling apart... Flew that thing back to base with one engine, half a tail and Swiss cheese fuselage :D

as a fighter I love to protect bombers and fly around 1km behind them. Then the enemy fighters attack the bomber (or try to climb to them very hard) and are completely fixated 90% of the time. Then, they are just so easy to kill, in a low energy state.

The bombers that uses formations either just goes straight to the bases giving them the list possible amount of time to climb with 100% of the enemy team still alive or they decide their targets then split and goes around the map to get picked off one by one by that one fighter that strayed from the rest to hunt bombers in the most extreme far sides of the map.

@@bulgariagaming2408 friendly fighters don't climb fast enough to be helpful A good system would be a escort spawn for fighters They spawn with a bomber If they don't stay with a bomber they die They can teleport back to there bomber every 30 seconds If they can't teleport back they won't die And if the bomber dies The fighter is free to do whatever he wants An alternative idea Is make all bombers as capable as a b34 That bomber is so good I literally can dog fight with it Of course it's still a bomber so I eventually get out turned But the gunners are amazing at it's tier and the fighters have minemal armor is it's a turkey shoot Oh and it's front guns are good enough to do head ons

Aye, I just unlocked it and test flew it. Second thing I did after taking off was drifting with the HO on it's front gearleg XD and after that I managed to snap the right gearleg and reached the point where I was drifting sideways on my left and front gear leg... there should be some kind of HO drifting sport man LUL

It took about 1 second in my TBF devastator gunner to kill it. And about 3 seconds to shoot down a bomber in the same plane from the gunner

the pe-2 is really good, its fast, maneuverable, decent bomb load, mediocre armament, and great climb rate for a bomber

I used to play this game All The Time. I only ever really played heavy bombers and maxed out all the heavy bombers for one country, I don't remember which. I would full throttle at the highest angle that could retain some speed and beeline for the target. You either make it or you don't. Escorts don't exist. I tried playing it again after a few years off and never came close to a target, lol

Escorting bombers is a easy way to get kills, usually the interceptors will stall while trying to engage the bombers and that makes them super easy to hit, even if they don't they are very predictable when going after the bomber

How to play bomber: Go high altitude and pray your enemy doesn't climb up

Many people like bombers, but after rank 1 or 2 you are nothing but a giant shoot me sign. Once the fighters start getting 20 m/s+ climb rates, in arcade most games your choices are dive at the ground full speed to bomb a base once then crash or try to climb and say hello to the enemy spitfire or bf109. In RB your only hope is that nobody sees you or they just decide to leave you alone:P If you want to know how many people want to play a bomber, just look at how many bombers start flying when you get a cloud covered map in air AB. Basically bombers are a loss, if you want to be a high altitude bomber you can climb away from the battle for half the match hoping no enemies are hanging around up high, or you can try to fly towards a base and die unless your team has more/better high altitude fighters than the enemy. A competent pilot would have no fear of even 3 or 4 bombers flying together if they have a few minutes to set up their attack. A desperate last minute low energy attack against a bomber about to kill a base might net the bomber gunners a kill, but a well executed high energy attack = one very dead bomber (aside from the lucky random pilot snipe kill, which while fun is hardly reliable). Only way to have a chance of living normally is to turn tail to the plane to reduce their relative speed and start peppering them with your tail gun at around 1.2km away and hope you get a few good hits in before they figure out the best way to kill you. I've had good success taking out the engine of enemy fighters with this method. Won't get me the kill but will force them to break off pursuit for repairs. Also for some odd reason friendly fighters are much more likely to come around once they see a smoke trail indicating that you have created a wounded plane to shoot down:P

Wild1234 tbh I play more realistic than arcade, just because you can do a loop da loop with a bomber in arcade and it is just stupid. It is tbh not s good mode for people to be introduced to the game as no other game mode has vehicles that behave the same. Same thing with the tanks, speed and maneuverability is far greater in arcade.
