Crash compilation after Minnesota spring snowstorm

The Minnesota State Patrol on Monday said between midnight and 7 a.m. there were 396 crashes (22 with injury, one serious/fatal) and 339 vehicle spinouts/vehicles off the road and 14 jackknifed semi-trucks. Sunday had some heavy snow across the Twin Cities, resulting in roads being sloppy and slick into Monday.

We live in a very mountainous area of north central Washington state. We’re only a 30 minute drive from Wenatchee and they normally get 2-3 feet of snow during winter, yet we get 5-7 feet in our area. We have to plow and maintain our private road. My wife’s Outback does quite well as does my Tacoma TRD Off Road, yet I have to put 300# of sand bags over the rear axle for better traction. Sometimes accidents are unavoidable but we just plan on driving slower and give ourselves more time.

He's one of those spinning around, crazing into guardrails, sailing off into a ditch, or worse, when his luck runs out. There is no way to know exactly how much traction there is at any one point on a highway. It might be solid where you are, but a 1/10 of a mile down the road, very slippery. That's why you drive slow enough to be ready for almost anything, for the given situation. You don't push it to the limit, like Mr. Hotshot Bigshot does.

I will confess, with my lifted Subaru Outback with All-Terrain tires, i like to drive in blizzards and deep snow. I know that i need to be careful still around corners and other cars, but yes, tires are everything. Put them on a already capable vehicle and a life-time of MN winter driving experience and you are golden. I laugh at those in big trucks that think they are superior to everyone else and end up in ditches while I cruise on past them with no issues
