Oh i remember watching the Monsoon Cup live years ago. One if not the best edition of the WMRT. Missing those fights and missing the monohulls

I miss the monohulls. It's too dangerous for these types of skirmishes since they swapped to the space ships.

hah! Be careful what you wish for. Now (2 yrs later) check out the design of the America's cup monohulls, with their insane foils.

With the 'backless' design to the not so nautically minded it looks like you could end up with one boat running up inside the other, ending up like a car on a trailer? Can't be good trying to bring them in through surf or even with big following waves?

so, interesting things that are happening...it looks to me like they dropped the jib to be able to better fetch the windward mark (reducing drag?) I've never seen this move and am very impressed by the quick and casual manner they excecuted. Also, maybe someone could explain the penalty. I thought that the starboard boat is unable to bear away if another boat is ducking. Is this legal before the other boat makes a move to duck? What's with the 90 degree rule?

Good video. ^^ The starboard (right way of boat) shouldn't bow down more than 90 degree.. it's from the wind angle.. right? one more thing, is the rule apply to prestart as well?

Wow, exciting! 3:37 How come these boats don't have a transom?

So the green water runs out the back . .. more efficient than a closed ass end and scuppers.

That much less weight and air drag as well. A sailboat always moving forward has little to fear from following seas overtaking the transom, as these boats likely wouldn't be match racing in conditions that rough anyway.

I don't understand what happened on the line there. Robertson can hold onto his penalty all the way to the line and execute it without crossing in the last metres?

You can take penalty before the line, on the line, behind the line, around the mark - it doesn't matter. However to finish you have to cross the line from course side without a penalty

As close to cheating as you can get, unseamanlike boat handling, I'm glad it wasn't rewarded by a win. Of you steal someone's wind you'll hit them like that. Better to steal more wind by being in the windward quarter, and quite safe too 😏
