A clear, concise, to-the-point, no-nonsense presentation. It captures and keeps the attention. This doctor has a real talent for teaching. We should have more people like this teaching in medicine. Fantastic! Thank you.

My son just had this type of craniopharyngioma tumor removal 5 days ago at USC Keck. Hes 18 years old, he was able to send us a Snapchat 5 hours after surgery and send us small text messages. When I call him i notice he only responds to our questions but never initiates questions for us in return. His mother said the Dr says his short term memory maybe loss. Is this temporary? Will he be able to initiate conversation on his own? His was a golf ball size benign. Thank you.

I just came across your comment! I might have this so I’m just doing some research myself. Was it temporary for your son? I hope all things worked out for him.

@@kimseokjeans2419 it was just temporary for about a month in a half while he was in the hospital. After about 4 months of healing he was able to drive and his short term memory became better and better. He was able to work at his Starbucks job by the 5th month. His metabolism slowed down, so he gained 30 pounds. Now hes in college for EMS firefighter.

@@vegasminimansion oh wow! Thank you for replying! I’m very glad to hear he’s doing well! It’s a relief :) I’m also worried about gaining weight but I’m sure it’s something you can do to control, at least he’s well! Wishing you all the best!

@@kimseokjeans2419 he hasnt really tried fasting for 16 hours. Hes not really fat fat. He was a boxer in perfect shape and now hes just looks like he has a little chubby belly. Nothing crazy. Good luck man. My son was texting us and snap chatting 4 hours after surgery. It was so wierd he was able to do that. Hope you well.

How can something derived from the pituitary compress the chiasm from above?

You answered your self, the optic chiasm is found superior to the pituitary gland, so when there is a tumor originating from this site (sellae turcica), the optic chiasm will be definitely one of the main structures that will be compressed by the tumor mass, and one the reasons that the tumor will compress superiorly is the anatomical configuration of the sellae turcica (which confines the pituitary gland), so it will make a shape like what the Dr said, a snowman. the body is sellae turcica, the head is the exact tumor arising from the open space (from above), and the hat is the optic chaism, so one of the common medical conditions that happens with pituitary gland tumors is bitemporal hemianopsia due to this compression.

@@abdullahibrahim8938 You're completely missing the point. The chiasm is compressed from above due to the suprasellar craniopharyngioma - which is derived from the vestigial remnants of Rathke's pouch. It is not a tumour that is derived from the pituitary itself, but more so a tumour that develops in close proximity to it.
