Khabib didn't submit Iquinta because he didn't want to, he wanted to change the narrative that he can't strike. dagestanis are elite coz they know how to mix well wrestling,judo and bjj. same thing with elite strikers like Adesanya, Yair, Volk, and Thompson this guys knows how to combine different elements of boxing, muay thai,karate, taekwondo.

These Dagestan guys are by far the most dominant grapplers in MMA ever though.. so they're doing something right that bjj and folk style fighters haven't been able to do.. interesting to see how dominant bo Nikal will be

big islam fan here and I believe he won and he did win, but why are people saying he was invincible? he did get knocked out by a fighter that I can't even remember his name, and volk is a beast that nearly cleaned his division and lately it hasn't even been competitive. people need to calm down and get over it

Craig and Alex' team did an excellent job preparing him well. Alex' hips and underhooks were extremely effective and strong. But Khabib and Islam are completely different. Khabib uses the fence and his cardio, chin and IQ is on another level. Islam can't use the fence and is at his best during the full guard positions unlike Khabib that uses the half guard and bottom/back guard positions better. Funny how people always use the Iaquinta fight to show that Khabib can't finish everyone but he won a 50-43 decision and was just having fun throwing round house kicks, various jabs/punches and all kinds of stuff that he never did in any of his other 28 fights...

I enjoy Craig's insights into fights. I wish he would come to mma. He is good on the mic and confident and would present problems for A LOT of fighters outside of top 10 guys I think.

Makhachev won against Volk but didn't get pvp #1. Why would people think he would fight volk a second time if its not even certain he would get pvp #1 even if he won? They are not stupid to fall for that again.

@@kahutara818 there were hardly any good punches that landed. The position was great but Volk wasn't doing good at GNP. You probably haven't seen good GNP. Also, it's a praise for Islam only that his opponents fans are happy they got to see their fighter having some offence for 1 minute. In most decisions there are some people who think the clear loser won when he didn't. Volk doesn't deserve the rematch unless he vacates FW belt and moves up to LW full time and never uses weight as an excuse for his defeat. He is such a loser that he willingly participated in a LW fight only to give excuses of weight after losing. There's no reason for Makhachev to give that disrespectful fighter another crack. He had his chance and he blew it.

I had it for volk. It’s just a matter of opinion. I don’t believe the opinions of the three judges are necessarily better than anyone else’s. A case can be made for either. There was no robbery, but in no way did Islam have a concise win, and at the end of the day it’s evident Volk is the better fighter pound for pound.

It's funny that iv discussion sparks all this, and what could have been done behind the scenes in Islam's camp. Now imagine islam camp..saying how Volk cardio been better on the latter rounds he must have been on something? Both doesn't make sense. I believe both guys are elite fighters no way they risk the most highest level of their career because both obviously intelligent people.

It's a good point, but instead of cracking the puzzle, in reality the Alex camp accidentally made Islam stronger. He'll be a lot more confident in a rematch, will know more clearly how to shoot, and will be less afraid of possible KO now that he stood toe to toe against Volk and won nearly all of the stand up exchanges.

@@Kevinopilous the way I read it is that Volk's feints were diminished compared to his regular fights. In Volk v Max 3, I literally started to flinch to his feints after R3 (poor Max). Volk's striking couldn't open up I think because he had to respect Islam's TD threats. And Islam TDs were less deadly and frequent because he had to respect Volk's striking.

Fighters wear damage differently, only a callous observer would determine the impact by how a fighter looked at the end.

Stop saying "Islam won round 4 due to controlling Volk." Islam's body lock demonstrated "effective grappling." Only when "effective striking and grappling" are tied does "control" matter in judging, but there was no tie. Islam also hurt Volk in the round 4 stand up before the takedown. Round 4 was a Dominant round for Islam.

In other words, all greats have been cracked and received criticism for it. What does that really mean in the grand scheme of things. Whenever these things happen with fighters considered, the best.. that's the narrative that is formed a lot of the time. Volks was just lucky this time. You will see in rematch that he was never worth all the praises he got after this fight. This wasn't the Islam's 100% version any islam fan can tell. Islam's cardio was fked up because of less recover time. See the islam body against charles and compare it to against alex version you will see massive difference. I think Volkanovski's body shape is his biggest weapon. His legs are so short and Islam had not much to hold on to. Also Islam only had 24 hours after weigh in vs the regular 36 hours. Not having Khabib in his corner was also a big motivational loss. None of his corner man seemed fired up during the fight. Islam still won and the praise that Volkanovski gets is purely from the fact that people consider Islam as a beast of a fighter.

Round 3 was the toss-up not round 2. For a significant part of round 2, Islam was landing the more effective strikes while walking Volk down. Rounds 1, 2 and 4 are clear for Islam. Round 5 is clear for Volk. Round 3 was close, though I'd lean towards Volk for round 3. 48-47 is the right score but 49-46 Islam isn't as crazy as some who are arguing that Volk won 48-47

Damage has and always will be the number one factor in a fight. And it is at the top of the scoring criteria in mma. Striking percentage has never been relevant and is still not relevant today. It’s volume of strikes period. What clip you land at is irrelevant. And Islam got out struck significantly. It’s funny how you try to disregard damage 😂 then you say striking percentage is part of the criteria all while you’re saying everyone else doesn’t understand scoring criteria 😂☠️

I have to agree, I also thought Khabib is better than Islam in wrestling / grappling especially chain wrestling, transitions etc. Islam is not as aggressive on the ground
