I love that this trainer is completely focused on the horses comfort and is so gentle. We must earn the horses trust and loyalty. I grew up barrel racing and saw some people treat horses horribly, I even told one cruel woman off at a competition in front of everyone. I never used spurs or would do anything to harm my sweet girl. I tried to make sure she had fun and she wasn't treated as my servant to ride, I'm so glad more and more people treat their horses with the utmost love that they deserve ❤️

I've worked with horses for just over 50 years, and I'd love another 50 to learn more from more people. I love teaching youngsters what I know, and I love listening and learning from other horse people. No matter if you ride English or Western, you still have to have a solid foundation. You guys brought up some things that reminded me about a gelding that was brought to me to train on the barrels because he had been severely abused in the box and ruined for team roping. I gained his trust & confidence with me and he relaxed with me & became wonderful on the barrels. The first time I hauled him to a barrel race, as soon as I unloaded him he immediately sweat out like he had been standing under a shower & was trembling so hard that I got really worried - he was literally in an anxiety attack. I tied him to the side of my rig & just let him take everything in until he started to calm down. We did saddle up later & make a run, nice & easy. Then I unsaddled him, let him stand & relax. He went home calm & happy. He was so athletic & very fast that he did great on barrels. He totally calmed down & I was eventually able to team rope a little on him, too. He trusted & respected me. He would do anything for me.

Proof that good horses dont always have papers and I absolutely LOVE that such respected professionals have no issues stating this horse has no papers. As the saying goes "We cant ride the papers" 😉 ❤❤❤

I bought a mare like him . she was terrified especially of the farrier. Actually 2 different ones. Made me wonder how they got their shoes on. Must have been a fight

Beautiful work. And let's all consider just how forgiving these creatures are.. I would not be that quick to trust alter being beaten. Horses are glorious animals.

So much basic intuition at play. Makes me think of how the pit bull has been type cast as a vicious animal when in reality it is a very sweet and loving animal, but when trained with force and intimidation, they, as any animal, will respond with fear and viciousness. An animal trained with compassion and kindness will respond with the same. 🥰🥰🥰

My mare I rescued from the kill pen wouldn't let me approach or touch her on the right side. It took allot of time and trust to get her over it. I just started saddling her and I can saddle on both sides. I do everything on both sides and I usually start on the right.

Yes that must have been painful/ Pinching on his withers, Maybe that is part of his "watchy ness", anticipating pain.

we have a 2yr stud that will fle x disengage hind qt he will lead with all 4 ft flag him saddle and ride but. you can't put Rope around his butt any suggestions ?

@@guydoe1666 a heel horse is referring to a horse in the sport of team roping. One guy ropes the head the other ropes the heels. The horse that has the heeler on is called the heel horse. Only way you’ll meet your maker is if somebody puts you on the wrong horse there’s plenty of gentle horses around for an older gentleman like yourself hell I have a horse that I put my three-year-old daughter on just fine.

Horses a re flight animals there are no exceptions that horse was not leaning into the farrier because he wants to fight instead of flea as it said, horses are 'in to pressure' animals every single one of them! This horse especially couldn't be a "fight" or he wouldn't be snorting through fear and would have absolute confidence, but the whole reason that horse is there is that he has no confidence so that explanation of a misinterpretation of that behaviour would make no sense anyway! Also, horses do not snort because they're warning you, they do it to suck air in deeper to try and get the scent of what ever there have seen that they are worried about! And if you do things right, you will never go back a step only forward!

a good bit for a heel horse. Well a rodeo rider will tell you to use a curb bit with a tie down. And that is all you wil see in the rodeo arena. I will not be in the rodeo so I would use a hackmore and snaffle together applying the principle of bend. I think Craig will tell you the same thing. It takes about 10 years riding correct principles to finish a horse to work without a tie down and curb bit. The temperment of the of the horse will also tell you if he is a candidate for timed competition. My horses are way to sensitive to put all that pressure on them. Maybe if the right one was ridden every day for 10-12 years and desensitized to all the noise and movement of the arena.

Ya you have horse's that have been gelded, meaning no nuts,try that stuff on a stud see what happens.

Works on colts and studs. I handle them daily and move them around in the stall, haven't always had a round pen. These are 2yr Thoroughbreds.

Was your comment meant to be funny. I can easily say that once you reach that age yourself, Craig will be running circles around you and most likely outlive you.

Chasing and frightening isn't a great look .a horse thats frightened to disobey isn't good

I do not believe in this way of thinking. Tryed it. Works for short term. But not long term. Connection based approach is better for me and my horse.
