    Very helpful video. I bought a 2016 LT 2000 last year. It had gas in the oil. I put a fuel shut off like yours in the fuel line. It was surging bad so i ran quite a bit of sea foam in the gas through it. By the end of the season it had quit surging. So maybe it helped. Every time I shut it down i turn the fuel shut off valve off and run the gas out of the carburetor. I only use non ethanol fuel. I was shocked how fast that carburetor would let the fuel flow into the engine. With mine just a matter of a few minutes if the engine isn't running. Thanks again for the helpful video.

    People give those old Craftsman mowers no respect! They were really great, simple little machines that hold up well if they are taken care of and stored out of the weather and remain cheap and easy to get parts for. People just abuse them and throw them away because they were neither a fancy name brand nor loaded with high end features (that break later and cost you time and money) if you can find a good used one with a Kohler Pro (relabeled Command), all the better! Far and away better machines than the MTD rebadged Craftsman they build now.

    Just picked one up for our work shop for 150 bucks and it turns on, just won’t go into gear. Hopefully I can watch enough videos on the LT2000 and learn a few things.

    not understanding the problem with filters on a gravity fed machine ? I chuck the red screens and put a real gas filter on all machines gravity fed or not , never had an issue and I know they are keeping fine debris out of the jets , etc ... please advise

    It’s definitely the subject of much debate. Steve’s small engine saloon has done a couple of fantastic videos on fuel filters which I highly recommend watching. Basically fuel filters on certain systems, depending on the distance to the carburetor and height of the gas tank etc.. they will not flow fuel once the tank reaches a certain level. But also and more importantly, any amount of water in the fuel will be absorbed into the filter paper plugging the filter and not allowing fuel to flow through properly. It’s not true with every gravity fed machine. And if there is one already there I’ll usually just replace it with a new one, but it’s happened to me enough to just avoid adding one.

    Did you say fuel stabilizer left that gunk in the carb bowl? I thought ethanol would do that.

  • @hester781

    @hester781

    So ethanol, attracts moisture, and if enough of that moisture sits in the carb long enough it will react with the copper, that’s in the brass jets and cause a very similar green film condition. However I have had a slew of machines come in where the owner used green sta-bil and let the machine sit for too long and each carb looked the same.

    after watching loads of these type videos i am amazed that some people will take equipment that is greasy, dirty , filthy, and packed with debris to a mechanic for repair.

    It’s baffling to me. They see nothing wrong with it but it’s the equivalent of bringing a car full of trash and old food to the mechanic’s shop, and there’s still people who do that with no shame 😂

    Wouldn't it be wise to use a fuel screen you know the small red ones keep some debris out.

  • @hester781

    @hester781

    Great question. There has definitely been some debate about whether or not these red filters fall under the “better than nothing” category. However I think Steve over at Steves small engine saloon made a great video, explaining how even though these filters may catch the big stuff, it’s actually the little stuff that they don’t catch that will clog your carburetor. It’s like a new take on the old saying “like a screen door on a submarine” it’s going to keep the fish out but it’s the water that’s going to get you lol.
