First short documentary film shot at Kenwood Industries Pte Ltd.
Kenwood, founded in the 1970s, is one of the oldest planer mills, furniture and lumber producers in Singapore. Today we take a look at their custom production workshop, where they produce made-to-order furniture pieces. These louvre doors are one of their staples, made of dozens of painstakingly assembled wooden strips.
Sadly, Kenwood will be downsizing and relocating their factory to a high-rise building. This is the first in a series of documentary films ("Craft In Singapore" working title) to capture the essence of these old factories before they are torn down. We hope to document the last of Singapore's manufacturing culture before it is lost.
