The "oh crap siren" is very real. I'm a fire performer. When I'm learning a new trick I mess up a ton with dry props but the moment i add fire, its a lot easier to do everything right. It's like my body knows "mess this up and it's gonna hurt."

I'm not surprised that he worked in the media industry at all. His voice, manner of speaking, and overall presence make him literally prefectly suited for a career in media-related roles. His voice is soo charming! ✧ ⭒

It's interesting to see how even in the lab how you have some subtle extra body movements that show how heavily you've clearly integrated music into your muscle memory. Music does wild things to change the body. I saw a biosensor study on a drummer in drum corps years ago that found they were hitting physical exertion markers like an olympic sprinter but sustaining it over a much longer term and then even when the drummer was on the sideline getting the sensors adjusted, his body reacted just from hearing the music start. I also read a book from a neurology study of professional musicians' brains about how learning a musical instrument to a mastery level can optimize the brain structures not just hearing, but also math and language and build interesting connections to all sorts of different processing centers. These kind of studies are just so fascinating. I also loved hearing you explain - it reminds me of the book On Looking - about expertise and how it changes how you see the world because of it.

I love how even for a scientific experiement, he has to put on the outfit. Lol. Although he was really rocking the pirate look with the black motion cap on.

If they ever make a video game where the whip is the main weapon Now we have all the information to make that game as accurate as possible

I love that he showed up in full costume! But seriously, that was absolutely fascinating. I didn’t realize he knew the science of whip cracking so thoroughly.

Ok... I mean you're shows are awesome. I hope to get to see one someday, but I'm an absolute NERD when it comes to listening to people talk about their niche. It's great getting to hear the little details learned over years of experience which are normally only distilled into silent effortless practical application. I mean, it's the fundamental cause of the Dunning Kreuger effect, right? I just love hearing the answer to me asking in my head, "This looks fairly straightforward, what am I missing that makes this a trained skill?" Thanks for sharing!
