Cracking the Wealth Code: How a Simple Mindset Shift Can Catapult You from Broke to Millionaire!

My name is Evan Carmichael and I believe that the fastest and most effective way to build a business is to model the strategies of people who have already done what you're trying to do. I call it Modeling the Masters.
Today we're going to look at how a high school dropout and homeless man would go from living on the streets and bathing in public restrooms to building one of the most successful stock brokerage firms in America. This is the story of multi-millionaire Chris Gardner and the top 3 lessons that you can learn from his success.
"Find something that you love. Something that gets you so excited you can't wait to get out of bed in the morning. Forget about money. Be happy." - Chris Gardner
Chris Gardner (born on February 9, 1954) was the only son of 12 children that was being raised by a single mother. His single mother was trained as a schoolteacher, but wound up taking on numerous part-time jobs in order to provide for her family. Gardner and his siblings were transferred back and forth between relatives and foster homes. His mother had been imprisoned twice; once, for allegedly receiving welfare while working, and the second time for attempting to burn down the house of Gardner's abusive stepfather. Gardner's prospects were narrow coming from an environment such as this.
While on a sales call, Gardner met a man who was impeccably dressed and drove a red Ferrari. As fate would have it, the driver of the Ferrari was a stockbroker. When Gardner heard that the man was earning over $80,000 a month, he decided that his future lied in investments. He had no education, no experience, and no connections, but that was not about to stop Gardner from achieving his new dream. Once he had decided to become a stockbroker, Gardner immediately set out to find an investment firm that would give him a chance. In one brokerage firm, Gardner finally found a manager of a training program who was willing to give him a shot. However, when Gardner showed up for his first day of work, the manager who had hired him had been fired and no one else had ever heard of Gardner or his new position. He left with his hopes disappointed.

Quotes
"Baby steps count, as long as you are going forward. You add them all up, and one day you look back and you'll be surprised at where you might get to."
"That's when I learned in this business, it's not a black thing, it's not a white thing, it's a green thing. If you can make me money, I don't care what color you are. So that's how I deal with that to this day."
"I was Chris Gardner, father of a son who deserved better than what my daddy could do for me, son of Betty Jean Gardner who said that if I wanted to win I could win."

Its not about being rich. Its selfish if you see purpose of having money just enjoying it yourself. No i don''t believe it, you ain''t gonna fly because you wont find enough motivation in pleasing your senses as you can achieve it easier way, just having good salary.

Beautiful story, too.
I love the movie, too. Just when you think you have it bad, someone else has it worse. If this guy can manage through extenuating circumstances, you can, too. Keep moving onward and upward.
I agree passion is important, but I'm so tired of every other successful entrepreneur saying "You need passion'. Mark Cuban is the only one I've heard say this, and I paraphrase: It's not about passion-- everyone has passion, it's about your effort.
@bvaughn944

In order to accomplish your goals passion is not necessary. But as an entrepreneur you are selling products. You can't sell products if you are not passionate about the product. You can hire a salesman if you are not passionate but starting out you most likely won't be able to afford that. If you or someone else is not passionate about your product why would someone buy it?

***** I think passion is a term that gets thrown around a lot. You just need to work your ass off and never quit. "Passion" could just be the very fact of making money. But who knows. What I love is coming up with an idea, then turning that idea into a physical thing, then selling it and making money. Maybe that's my passion.

With effort and passion combined becomes a NO quit attitude , and success will come . I may not have made it YET ... But I know I will get there . Love and enjoy your Journey !! Every Step forward , is a Successful Day . Have a productive Day ...

I agree with your entire statement Leah. But I do not think or feel that it is MANDATORY that I "owe" anyone. I don't mind helping another get a leg up, but don't get it your head that because I have it "you owe me." That is not going to happen, especially if one is WAITING on a hand out.

This year I attended the 2012 HR Florida Conference in Orlando. By some strange fate, Chris Gardner was a fill-in at the last minute Keynote speaker. He received a standing ovation before he spoke a word, then after he spoke, he received another. People were lined up to buy his book and speak to him. Evan, this was a really good example thanks.
I watch your videos and have commented before on your effect in my life, thank you very much for all your help through all of life's ups and downs. Ive met Chris Gardner and he is as down to earth and nice as anyone could get...we can learn not only by his success and perseverance , but by his genuine and kind hearted soul. We all need to learn to help and be kind to all people ,just because we can!!-thanks again brother and keep up the GREAT WORK!!!
Gardner's story is one that I always think of first when I remind myself that I can do it. Even when it's hard, to stay focused and remember why I'm making music, why I'm in sales. Thanks for the video Evan!

Thanks for publishing this Evan. I already have my dream but have been knocked back recently. I loved the film "In pursuit of Happiness" and being a struggling father myself at the moment, it naturally pulled the emotional chords! I'll watch this video more than once as it's SO encouraging to remind yourself when you're down, that success happens all the time and it's just them "baby steps" sometimes that can (eventually) make all the difference. Thanks again, best regards.

I listen to a story like that and think to myself "What excuse do I have for not achieving". Grab hold of what you love and start taking steps, even if they're baby ones. Thanks for the video Evan.

Pursuit of happiness! I love this movie and then story behind it as well! Thank you for sharing this with us!(:
I left my ex in 2004 to be a single mom of 2 kids. We lived in a shelter and moved to transitional housing programs and government housing. I put myself through naturopathic medical school by borrowing hundreds of thousands (it was less than 200k but interest has it at over 300k in 1 year) and have been licensed for almost one year. My funding for start up fell through and I am bootstrapping and haven't made a penny as a doctor, since Jan 2015. I opened my own place 3 Mos ago and have no funds for a computer that works or advertising. Any advice? Feels like a nightmare. Was working a non physician job but got laid off and immediately went to the food bank. Wasn't able to find a regular job and am watching baby steps and watching videos like this to stay motivated. I was hoping to find patients by now and don't want to have to close shop because I can't pay the lease. Also, had considered not being able to pay housing and being homeless again, but I am attempting to stay hopeful, yet realistically looking at the bills and income and it doesn't match up.

Brian K McNeill Awesome - welcome aboard Brian :)
I just finished watching "The Pursuit of Happyness" for the 5th time and every time I watch it I cannot help but remember difficult times I had raising my own children and how I have struggled the same way but how determination and hard work and the will to do better will take you everywhere. I cry when I watch this movie as Will Smith portrayed this situation very well. Even if it was harder on Gardner than portrayed in the movie I understood the jest of it and many people go through this and the compassion of others means a lot to people and if you do not cry when you see this you have no compassion or understanding of the true nature of pursuing your dreams and goals and what it means to be down on your luck. Some people can rise above the situation but some cannot that is the difference this video teaches you "DO NOT GIVE UP!" no matter how hard it is no matter what, strive to reach the next goal and if you get knocked down remember to get up brush yourself off and try again that is the key.

Love it. It may not be as dramatic as this story but I'm just wanted over two years clean from heroin addiction. It got as bad as you could possibly imagine and back then I had no will to live whatsoever. Now its something that very rarely ever comes to my mind. Back then I hated my father, like truly hated him I thought. All the while he was running a multimillion dollar company in Manhattan. Now I've found the drive and humility through my experiences to swallow my pride and come work for him. So now I am a highschool dropout who has spent countless nights of my past in rehabs and homeless shelters, who turned their life around to make more than I could ever imagine, fix a relationship and live a truly blessed live with a woman I love. These stories you see everyday are true and there's no reason they can't be about you. No matter how far you've ever sunk the good life is always there, it might seem impossible and it might seem like it can never happen for you. Just keep pushing no matter what.

Hi, Evan! After watching the video about Chris Cardner, I had to watch the movie, The pursuit of happiness once again, this time more attentively. Thanks Evan and especially Chris, for your beautiful mind. I admired the person Will Smith portrayed, for never giving up in the face of such adversity. Made me realize that my problems were very small. I could watch the movie over again many times for the inspiration. Chris, you are a legend. So glad to see this video of who the real Chris Gardner is. My wife and I always seem to be battling in small business and never getting a break. I love the stock market and Forex, but never have achieved an income from it. If you could recommend any stock market scanners or programs that actually work and not just take your money I'd appreciate it. We do not have the volume of people in Australia like the US, to call on to invest. Most brokerage firms only take on Uni graduates, and I don't have a degree, but I am a good learner. I love technical analysis, but I need some guidance, as I lack a lot of confidence.

Stay out of Forex, most forex brokers out there are scammers, unless your local bank offers it. I once made 10k in 4 hours from a capital of $200. But prior to that I also lost roughly about 200$ within few weeks. When I tried to take out my money easyforex (broker i used) was reluctant to release my money at the end the company only gave me 5000 of my money, and no organization can protect you when i contacted the securities they told me that the company was in lala land that they have no jurisdiction over...the company they had locally was non existent..... for tools: I tried bots before to i made money few times but lost it also....If you would like to learn more about forex check out babypips.com I learned alot on how to read charts (technical analysist)...which you can use in stock market also.....but beware forex is the biggest scam out there. most company knows that you would loose money so the money that you invest doesn't even go into the market but goes directly into their account. read about it.
