I personally went to The Modern Rogue before coming here. I saw Brian on a Grant Thompson video (coconut grenades). Anyway, I think The Modern Rogue is actually a bit better than Scam School, since for me, it's more exciting and humorous. I appreciate the work you are doing on both channels, and keep it up. :)

Scam School People aren't bitching about the fact there is an add, I think you are mistaken here. They are bitching because its too long and it feels sort of disrespectful, you're distancing yourself from your viewers by saying "I'm above you, I'm the creator of the vid, I can troll you with a long ass boring add that's the opposite of trying to be interesting which is generally considered respectful and mindful of the viewer, at least that's how it feels. You truly are driving people away with this, I won't show this to people even if I think it's funny because I don't want them to get trolled by my fault. I sound like I'm exaggerating and I'm really not, I'm not bitching either, I'm truly trying to show you what I see here, which is a great channel loosing a good proportion of its potential viewers for no good reason to me. The video is great! For those who feel that these kind of videos help thieves become better at stealing bikes, I feel thieves are a lot more professional than to learn from youtube videos. This was shown in a performance bikes magazine about 10 years ago, Ive done it to show a mate heated the pen up very slightly before and it popped the d lock open. Lock never worked with the key afterwards.

This has to be one of my favorites. Usually, I'm more of a card guy. But this was very well done. Would love to shuffle dance along side you one day

@@1978garfield Mexico comes to mind. Shithole countries are exempt since their chillers are so old and they don't have the desire to replace what works. Also, Ebay. A 12 oz can is 25 bucks. All you want since it's a private sale. 134a would work as well as 12. Get a 30 lb jug for 75.00. That's a lot of frozen locks.

i dont think so. if you look hes trying to push open the hook side of the lock instead of the strait part when he was picking it. so it wouldnt open untill he regripped to try again and realized it was loose

if you look at the lock it is never locked completely the pin on the lock are set and between the reset point of the pins so all he had to do is force the pen on the lock and finish turning it

@@propringle Though there is a tool that operates on a similar principle that is hardier. Though owning one presents a lot less plausible deniability in states that ban "larceny/burglary tools".

Interesting, but not as easy as it looks here. When I lost my Thule rocket box key, I thought 'according to these guys a couple jumbo paper-clips bent the right way" would / could do. I didn't have the touch these guys have, so a lock-smith, working part time at an Ace Hardware store came out to the parking lot and fiddled with the lock. Took him a while too (he had one of those kits), but he got the thing open. It's nice to know it can be done, and it's also nice to realize that not everyone can do it. You guys are great.

Brian is awesome. And you could view this video as a how-to-steal-a-bike video, but that's not how it comes across to me. To me, it comes across as a how-to-keep-your-bike-safe video, by pointing out the security flaws of these older Kryptonite bike locks. As he says in the video, this method only really applies to these older locks. So if you own one of those locks, or you're buying a used lock (which. . . . why would you ever do that??), then it's good to know about that security flaw. To put it another way, if people like Brian didn't make flaws like this one well publicized, then many of us would be using insecure hardware to protect our property. Also, this particular security flaw was pretty infamous already in certain circles so it's good to spread that information out to a wider audience.

This secret was released in Toronto on national TV and within a couple months the lock companies were already replacing their locks. I met and smoked a joint with the person who exposed this before he went on set for the interview about 5+ years ago. There are still many vending machines and other locks that still use that type.

That ad is beyond ridiculous...

this was an old issue with the lock that they fixed in the early 2000s, thus why it appears to magically open (they couldn't pick it, it was already unlocked because kryptonite fixed it). it's called an impression attack, where the spring pushes the pins into the plastic of the pen creating a key. However, if the spring tension is different in every cylinder, that will push the pins past the proper height and the impression attack won't work. New cylinder locks are made with this in mind now.

Is there a way to know if the lock is old or new before trying this method? I have a bike that was given to me that has one of these types of locks on it that I need to remove to start restoring it. Thank you!

Last year at the international motorcycle show I picked just about all the locks vendors were selling.... blew most of their minds... pissed more then a few off! Good ol Plastic pen

I was a locksmith for 6 years and the WD-40 vs. Graphite argument differs on the climate. You can't use graphite in places that are hot and humid all the time like down south, but it's the opposite in the north because WD-40 is mostly fish oil based and will freeze easier

I have good luck with Liquid Wrench with Teflon. It is non flammable so I suspect it is less volatile. Works great on locks,hinges&cables. Also there is NO fish oil in WD-40 www.foodreference.com/html/facts-wd40-fish-oil.html I liked it better with the Propane propellant.

Give me a break. This was first discovered in 1992, but didn't become well known until 2004. A quick google shows a youtube vid on this dated 2008. The company quickly changed the lock design and offered free exchanges to everyone. That means the lock used in this video dates back to pre-2004.

I got the new kryptonite bike lock with the bank vault type key system. seems more secure then the round key locks.

These are the same locks used to turn on all the taps at my school...
