It sure is a completely different situation in regards to drugs in America than here where I live in Vancouver. Cannabis/Marijuana has been legal since 2018,and growing up everybody I went to school with smoked it,and many of us did cocaine as well, but nobody let it get the better of them. They've even legalized all narcotics here in Vancouver B.C., 2.5grams of cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, Methamphetamine, and MDA are all allowed to be in your possession now since Jan this year. I find it strange that in some US states they allow for theft up to 900$ to go without criminal charges, but throw the book at you for simple possession, the very thing that these people are stealing for.

Does listening to all of these American accents sometimes give you a headache? Years ago while stationed in Turkey, I had dinner with a group of contract construction workers from Ireland. As an American, I had to listen VERY closely to understand what they were saying. My maternal grandfather's surname was McKenrick. There were still some remnants of Irish in his daily speech. After breakfast, he would "redd up" the dirty dishes from the table. That meant to gather them, and place them in the sink to be washed.

@@martinmummert5614 Very interesting! I love hearing about culture because so many of us in the U.S. have lost ours…or think we have! I found out a lot of my grandma’s sayings and grammar were Swedish, by studying the language. My dad’s, too, are from his indigenous language. And I’ve got Yiddish speaking relatives? too! We take with us more than we know. Some people who are multiethnic think they’re “nothing,” but I try to learn as much as I can about all my cultures I come from. A community leader at the Indian Center where I live said it’s not how much you have in you, but how far back it goes in your family, in her culture. That makes sense to me. *my phone added a question mark after Yiddish, not me! I can’t see or edit what I’m typing, without erasing everything. Anyone else had that issue on YT?

Im sorry i can’t be the only one questioning his story. How is someone help on a 1,000,000 dollar bond over an assault and why are they asking if you wanted to press charges if he was already in custody and charges were pressed. If your mom never let the family see you how did you know they put up the restaurant. The process also doesn’t usually take just one day and he said he bonded out the next day. Also how can a drug addict identify where they got HIV. If you’re on drugs how often are you even getting checked? How long was it before you knew you had HIV? I just have so many questions.

You might want to go back and listen again. Yes, you can absolutely have a 1 mil bond on an assault charge. He didn't just punch the guy, he literally bashed his head in with a brick, fractured his skull and left him for dead. Jfc Could easily be upgraded to an attempted murder charge or something similar. And if you can put up that high bond, which the Korean Mom could do, he absolutely could have gotten out. He also said that his Mom did eventually let the girlfriend in the hospital room. Shit got messy when they found out it was her brother that did it, and they ultimately stood by the brother, and Dominic and the girl eventually split. He was also into cocaine and crack, not anything to do with needles. Obviously, he knew where he contracted HIV. Unless he was sleeping with multiple people at the same time, it would have been very obvious. The only other possibility would be that he contracted it from a previous partner, which would also be pretty easy to find out. You don't catch HIV sharing crack pipes. Only IV drug users have that risk.

Being hit in a certain part of the head can cause the kind of brain damage that can cause anger issues. I think maybe he's not getting the help he needs due to needing help with the paperwork. Berkely springs is a beautiful place, but definitely that area is the haves and have nots. Something doesn't feel cohesive completely about his story. He says he doesn't have unprotected sex, but he had a child after learning he was positive. I just feel that either the head injury or something is making it hard for him to pull things together. I wish him luck.

I think the idea of grass as a gateway drug is not valid. It's more about a person's circumstances and experiences. Many of us have used marijuana responsibly for decades and nothing else just as many folks have a drink occasionally for years without ever becoming alcoholics. Certainly if someone is already having mental health challenges, many of their decisions are going to be poor ones.

Weed being illegal just introduces you to the drug world. The weed itself doesn’t make you need harder drugs. You just become more comfortable around them and have easier access to them because of the people you end up associating with just to buy a little weed.

I admire Dominick's candidness regarding his challenges as well as his dedication to work. Not enough attention is paid to how people struggling w/ illiteracy have such huge hurdles in their lives. 130 million Americans are functionally illiterate and do everything they can to hide their shame about it. More than 1/2 of all Americans are only able to read up to a 6th grade level. As much as Dominick is grateful for earning $20/hr for sweeping, these types of jobs aren't full time or stable & don't offer benefits. The economy is rapidly shifting to high tech meaning that many people w/o these types of skills are left scrambling to make a living, pay rent, childcare, transportation, etc. which could be why so many folks end up on the streets using to drugs to escape their dismal condition.

Curiosity is a gateway drug. All these decades of marijuana being illegal forced those who were curious (generally young people) to engage with people willing to do illegal things, which almost always included selling harder drugs and often dangerous encounters. There are people still sitting in prison from the '60s, '70's, '80's for possession of small amounts of weed. Alcohol is far more damaging to individuals and society and has caused far more deaths than weed ever has. It's so obvious, it hurts.
