I am an ICU nurse and I was curious what this looked like on an animal. I haven’t even watched the whole video and I am bawling my eyes out! I could never do this job! Thank you to the vet techs. and veterinarians for all you do ❤

Yea it’s tough, thank you ❤
That is a very useful material not only for vet techs but owners in general. I will keep browsing to see if at-home resporation is also shown. Thank you for the demonstation and instructions.
Nice team coordination. Thank you
I've read many comments concerning ribs broken while chest compressions are performed. This is not "blunt force". You will feel and hear cartilage break and separate. This is normal, both in humans and with your k9. You may also need to deal with blood loss. A large hole. Getting the wound plugged while sill getting both blood and air circulating. Thank you for your video.
If the animal is not responding, when do you stop cpr ?
Took me a while before i realised that it was not a real dead dog
After how many cycles are we expected the dog to breath normally.
Is there a big risk that you break the dog‘s ribs while doing this? I just felt my dog‘s side and it seems like CPR would put immense pressure on the ribs.

If you do it too deep then yeah its best to try not to. But the alternative is death. A rib can be fixed.

That can happen even on human CPR. Usually it’s better to break a rib than to not perform CPR for fear of that happening. Ribs will heal. 😃
What about cats
So it doesn’t matter what side the dog is on?
The heart still looks very far away from where she is doing the chest compressions.... How does it work exactly? Isn't she doing compressions on the lungs in the video?

She is demonstrating the thoracic pump technique. This technique is based off of the thoracic pump theory, which proposes that external chest compressions increase overall intrathoracic pressure, forcing blood from intrathoracic vessels into the systemic circulation, with the heart acting as a passive conduit. Different chested dogs (round, barrel, keel) have different cpr methods. In this example, the dog is round chested, which is why she used the thoracic pump technique. Keel chested dogs (ex. Greyhound) benefit more from cardiac pump technique. And barrel chested dogs (ex. bulldog) benefit more from sternal compressions
