Ойындар
NiP beats X3 in the Grand Final of CPL Winter 2001
Game 1: 12-16 @ de_nuke
Game 2: 13-11 @ de_nuke
X3 came from the lower bracket and had to win two games. The last overtime round and the last two rounds of the second game are missing. This is a converted CS 1.3 demo played with CS 1.5.

Crazy to think that it was 18 years ago and I still remember it. CS 1.3 was awesome. So many legends in this game that would dominate the scene later on : Ksharp, Rambo, Heaton, Potti, ahl, vesslan etc.

The first WCG (World Cyber Games) also happened in 2001 and it was started and ended in the same days as CPL Winter 2001 (05 December 2001 - 09 December 2001) and it was the first WCG event too. So we can say WCG and CPL were the beginning of the "major" LAN tournament for CS, especially. The thing is, CPL Winter had bigger prizepool at the time which was 150k USD, while WCG in 2001 was held with 70k USD prizepool. Though, I recall WCG in 2001 already had more country representation in their event, including Asia that already have entered the scene while CPL event were mostly participated by Americas and EU team. While NIP win the CPL Winter 2001, the champion of WCG 2001(CS event) was Canadian team called, Legend Never Die.

@@ytgc-royalewarex5190 Great history. I was here at the winter 2001 cpl, my first one. Watched these finals live. Was such a treat. Ill never forget it
I do have to admit as an OG. This was an epic matchup. I can't believe it was 2001. Flashbacks of LAN parties.
I think Potti deserved the first ESL hall of fame. He was way consistent, stable and nutty than Heaton for like 5/6 years in competitive CS. Heaton been nerfed and not really doing that good since 1.6 back in around 2004 when the spray pattern had been changed, horribly. I must say he was just doing really great during 1.3-1.5 but not in 1.6 while Potty stats were still way consistent than him

Mhh I think Potti was also very awesome in this final (as always btw) He literraly saved NiP by making all the entry kills at the end of the match (vs Ray outside) You have also to consider some points : -CS configs for this tournament really fucked up the spray, so it was more difficult for HeatoN to play for example considering his style (even that he played great) -NiP defeated X3 13-6 pretty easily on Train in the winner bracket final: mainly because of their skills -NiP changed their lineup just before the tournament (bye XeqtR their awesome ingame leader...) and were on a 6 man rotation for this tournament with ahl and Vesslan : much difficult to manage -Medion fucked up this final tbh. Or he was the "key clutch player" with Potti normally

Ikr. For an early competitive CS scene, that 4 man's Nuke Boost could be one of the most memorable moment in competitive CS history to me. Tactically, X3's skill was really satisfying to watch when they really performed good and their skill seems quite wild as well. Sadly they were just chocked in a later round. However, I'm glad to see they managed to redeem themselves at the next major tournament after this

Wow, I forgot we recorded all our cpl games on the computers given to us by cpl. Nuke boost was my brainchild strategy. After watching this match 22-22 years later, I can confirm We definitely choked as a team. We had this game in the bag many times. However, I will admit, pott1 fucking came through clutch a few crucial times and I would credit him with being the mvp of this final series. Heaton was always formidable but pott1 came through big time many rounds(or so I recall from 20+ years ago)

The top tier of CS talent back then was insane... There was just a way smaller player pool. The entire player pool for NA consisted mainly of college students and people working in IT because they were the only people with broadband internet outside of a few major US cities. The next few years after 2001 broadband started to proliferate and more great players came out of the woodwork. Even X3 wasn't really a "pro" team, whereas the Europeans were. The first real US pro team was [3D]. X3 vs NiP on nuke is definitely one of the best matches ever though. It was really kind of a golden age. Once the original CS started dying off, noone was really sure where eSports was going or if it would ever really take off in the US.
