CPL/ATPL General navigation|TRACK, HEADING, TRACK MADE GOOD, DRIFT, TRACK ERROR|Important questions😎

Hello everyone, in this video I have talked about what is track required, heading, track made good, drift and track error.
This is one of my favourite topics because we use all of this is real flying.
It is very important to know these basic terms before we start talking about radio navigation, so i am covering these topics before I start with radio navigation numericals.
I have talked about what is port and starboard drift. It is very important for you to know the differences between the two. I have shared my trick to remember it.

Can someone please solve my doubt : On a flight an aircraft is found to be achieving a G/S 10% higher than the planned. Assuming all other conditions same revised distance to PNR will be? a) less b) more c) same Please explain why is it (a).

  • @blueskiesandtailwinds6004

Okay so a trick (rule of thumb) for such questions. For PNR- if headwind or tailwind component increases, the distance to PNR will always decrease. In this case, an increase in groundspeed can also be assumed to be a tailwind component (because in a tailwind, the ground speed will be more). So as there is a tailwind component, the distance to PNR will decrease. For CP, the rule is that- The CP moves into the wind. So if the wind is coming from the departure airfield (tailwind), then the distance to CP will reduce (CP moves towards the departure). Similarly for a headwind, the CP moves towards the destination. This is a trick that would help. For detailed examples, refer to Pg 490 from Oxford book 10 (General Navigation) Hope this helps!
