Hokko life and I think it’s because I got overwhelmed with the decoration options. With being able to make your own furniture and downloading other people’s created custom furniture there was to many options. I need to go back and play it again

I gave up on DLV, I got fed up with the way the Dev team was handling it, and the way the community was being treated, and that's coming from someone who was a community helper for a while. There's a hidden toxicity to the community there, and should you voice concerns, you are immediately a pariah.

I also gave up on Aka. I thought the little red panda was cute AF, but like you, I could never really figure out what to DO. I have also given up on Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life, because I'm bored with it. I am in the same boat as you with ACNH: I played it obsessively in the summer of 2020, and for a while after. I never did anything as cool as what you did, but I did play around with different themes on my island. And then I just stopped playing it. I definitely got my $60 worth. :)

I agree with you about DDLV. I feel so dumb for spending so much money on an incomplete game that will eventually be free. But you’re right, fomo got me big time and I love Disney so I thought I would love it. And I did at first, but eventually I started getting so overwhelmed by how many tasks I had to do for so many characters, and there felt like there was no benefit to me to do them. On another note though, I LOVE where your channel is going and that you’ve moved away from animal crossing. You’re so honest in your reviews and I find we have really similar taste in games. Also your streams are always so fun and feel fresh because you’re trying new content. I love animal crossing and still do my tasks every day, but it’s definitely gotten stagnant at this point. Love, love, love your channel and vibe though!

Thank you for sharing your opinions, especially on Disney Dreamlight Valley. Having grown up with little disposable income, I am not easily influenced by FOMO. Knowing that the game will eventually be free has made it quite easy for me to hold off and I am not enough of a Disney Adult to be tempted by limited-edition items.

I stopped playing DLV. I had nothing but issues and kept hoping over time it would get better but it has only gotten worse. For the people that had no issues, or issues that didn't bother them, that is great. I am not one of those people and got tired of hearing "it is early access" "it is still in beta mode" etc. I deleted the game off my console and won't be playing it again. There are other things that bother me, but the biggest issue is that is was unplayable for me and every time I did play I was so frustrated or outright angry because I would lose progress from crashes and freezing, or I would decorate only for everything to revert back after exiting furniture mode, I could go on but I don't want to frustrate myself again just thinking about all the time I wasted on this game. I saved every few minutes only to find that a lot of those saves didn't even save everything. I put in help tickets and got unhelpful responses. So all the way around it left a very bad taste for me.

Personally, I love DDLV and still play it daily, so it has been well worth the money for me. Since I got the most expensive pack on a sale, I never felt the urge to spend real money on the game yet, but I absolutely see the fault on the microtransaction front and hope that they fix it. Apparently, there are plans, so let's see how it ends up. My favorite things have been decorating the valley and my houses and dressing up for my daily exploration. It has become such a happy place for me. But yeah, I'd definitely get it on sale.

Thank you for doing that follow up on whether or not you still play these games lol it's like with makeup, people rave about a few items and then you never see them using them again lol so actually explaining why you stopped rather than doing it quietly is very refreshing. 2. Speaking of makeup, yours is so beautiful!

@@packers12to80 I think it actually is a big deal! These types of games are all about creativity and expression- having a game be so limiting like this is disappointing and not inclusive. I shouldn’t have to choose between wanting my character to reflect gender identity or having the cool skill I want. Especially when so many other farming sims DO give you those options !

I've only played AKA and ACNH, but I feel you're 100% correct about AKA. I was SO hyped for the game. The vibe, the ambience, the design... it honestly looked like that game I would spend my mornings playing daily. The clunkiness and lack of a cohesive tutorial was such a hassle to figure out what I could simply interact with. And my biggest letdown was the art. They have at least three distinct art styles in that game that, individually, would be incredible. But all together it looked so out of place.

I agree with you 💯 about Dreamlight Valley. I too felt it was rubbing me the wrong way. Glad I only picked up base game. I couldn't last longer than 10 to 15 minutes in the game and needed to close the game and go play something else. It felt frustrating to play. Even if there was no lag I don't think I could get into the game but definitely would have made it more enjoyable. I know a parent who uninstall Dreamlight Valley from their child Switch. They have it set to restrictions so they can't download it. Their child was getting very upset and went into a panic, was in fear about not able to get cosmetic and started lashing out because of FOMO. Parents never has experiences this with their child. The parents were very upset that a game with a Disney license would do such a thing with the currency knowing full well a lot of children might be playing the game.

A game I just stopped playing was Coral Island. I really love some aspects of the game. The graphics are gorgeous, the townies are hot, the whole ecological bent of the game is very appealing,. There is a lot to like there. But the devs just don’t have a handle on game balance. Every time players figure out how to profit from anything they nerf it away. The really cool aspects of the Goddess and the spirits of the island are undone by making things more and more difficult to achieve. Having to try over 100 times to catch a particular fish made me crazy. I may go back after a while and see what they did with it. I was waiting on all the cute animals to show up besides the cows and chickens. Also hoping they allow a save game other than just the one each new day. I got spoiled by the real time aspect of ACNH so I could spend as much time as I wanted doing whatever. Having to rush through a day like a bomb is ticking and I’m trying to cram in everything I need to do annoys me now, even though a lot of farm sims use this function.

💯 on DDLV. I think what keeps me in ACNH is I’ve never completed an island so it doesn’t feel like I’ve “finished” it - I have a couple different islands and an playing them in different ways so there is always something to do. (I do have to say I was hoping to see you pull of that black and white island!)

To be honest the reason Disney Dreamlight Valley is doing the selling of micro transactions now instead of waiting is sadly what alot of studios who have big IP's do, they see how many flock to the game and are playing it and say "Hey here is an opetunity to grab more money" , I am sorry to say but most major studio's could care less about how their game is as long as money comes streaming in they are not fixing anything , my prediction is sadly that they will keep this up till their ship has burned.

Even though I love DDLV on Switch, a lot of the points you made were things I've thought about the game. It does imo have a great and surprising story going on, but that's accessed through a whole bunch of fetch quests! The characters being who they are makes it easier to stomach those fetch quests if you're a Disney fan. For me, it's got me through emotional times because Disney is so near and dear to my heart, despite questionable corporate moves. And I would consider the games free to play but early access but not model a questionable move too! But while the game was worth buying for me, especially when it first became available, I have and would never recommended buying early access to my curious friends. Anyway, the cozy game I stopped playing was Inhabit. It felt silly to stop playing a game that short without finishing it, but the puzzles were kind of making me rage lol

I’ve been playing ACNH for 3 years. I’ve completed a first Dream Address and actually bought a new Switch to start over with a new island. At this point, I’ve done it all the right way. Finished Museum, completed HHP, etc. I’m playing only at this point because I love decorating and I’m trying to create a more sophisticated island with regards to terraforming. I also love designing vacation homes for NPCs. Treasure islands are really helpful now. But I get that after a while you feel like maybe there are other games out there. I do find this game incredibly peaceful and therapeutic. It saw me through the worst of the pandemic and a couple surgeries. I’ll probably always come back to it periodically, but I will move on. As far as DDV goes, that game always seemed like a beautiful, nostalgic, appealing scam to me and I’ve so far avoided it. Lol.

Yeah I stopped playing ACNH last summer after playing it DAILY for 2 years (I even played it when I went on vacation at Disney World). I stopped playing it for the same reasons and I was also too addicted. So I stopped cold turkey and actually deleted my entire save file. As much as I enjoyed this game, I have no plans to pick it up again nor do I plan to get another animal crossing game for one major reason- I don't like real time games. Side note- I have no plans to get the Disney game because of the practical issues I heard, plus I don't want to play another real time game.

I still enjoyed ACNH, but I was definitely disappointed at some of the features not included on launch (Brewster comes to mind), and I thought the villager dialogue sounded more monotonous and boring than in previous AC games. But I got my 200 hours (!) of gameplay in and definitely thought it was a good value, if not the best in the series. That’ll always be New Leaf for me. I did love getting to hang out with friends and attend virtual events during COVID on our ACNH islands, and I’ll always be thankful I had that way to connect.

I think they just overpriced Disney Dreamlight Valley. At $30, it really is a paid game but I feel that when they start losing players, they will make it free to try and get new people into it. If it's going to be a free game, then don't charge for it but have paid cosmetics ready to go. If the devs are going to charge initially, they should have made it a more reasonable $5-$10.

The Animal Crossing things you said are also some of the biggest reasons why I stopped playing it and tbh.. I can’t even see this game anymore :( it’s not because it’s a bad game I love Animal Crossing! I started with Wild World when I was younger and then got from New Leaf to New Horizons and it was the ultimate experience for me but with the dlc and over 600 hours in that game I just don’t.. feel anything anymore while playing it :( it’s exactly the „I saw anything“ that you mentioned there is nothing to do for me anymore but it was still a good time I had and with over 600 hours I’m also totally satisfied but it just had done it’s job as a good cozy, cute game and there are a lot of new experiences I want to make when it comes to Switch games so completely understandable point you got there 👍

Will never play another Animal Crossing again unless they fix the save’s. Bought a new Nintendo, transferred old Nintendo account and saves and lost over 200 hours of gameplay. Found out later there was a secret squirrel way to get your save over, but had no idea at the time. It is just disrespectful and lazy for the publisher/developers.

The biggest for me has got to be Disney's Dreamlight Valley. I paid for one of the middle tiers and also made the mistake of getting the switch version (bc god knows my computer at the time would have had a stroke if I even thought of the notion). The early on stuff was solid enough, but then as they added more & more things, trying to pump out as much as they could, they got to a level of sloppy where the clothes now clip through the body & layers. None of the initial released goods have this issue. Now there's word that they've gone back on the game becoming free to play and have released dlc for a game that still has severe bugs and is still being called "early release". At this point, even if there are people really wanting to make a good game out of this on that team, there's nothing that they can do to actually make me wanna play it as it stands. Maybe I'll try it again in a year, maybe I wait until much later, as it is now though I do not care about this game. Should've taken in the red flags from when they did the exact same things with previous Disney games under their belt and then burned said games to the ground.

Definitely agree about DDLV feeling very grindy. The main feature I liked from it was the Quest system as imo it’s a good way to keep you focused on something. I just dislike that you have to complete certain things outside the quest before progressing to the next quest a character has. I thought at least Merlin would have quest available at all time but nope, gotta complete some meaningless task before you can even progress. Also agree that the way they’re handling the game currently feels very slimy. If it were just $30 with additional purchases I wouldn’t mind but they’ve already promised it’ll be free at a later date. Like if this game is in Early Access, why add updates to it? Shouldn’t you be working on updating/fixing the base game and adding the bonus stuff at a later date, after it’s free? Reminds me of this game called MultiVersus that did something similar; release for Early Access/Beta testing, add a ton of updated rather than work on the base game, and has now gone offline while the devs work on it leaving many in its community disappointed. Not to mention the more content they add to DDLV the more buggy it’ll be for platforms like Switch, which means it’ll take even longer to fix those bugs. I stopped playing ACNH for the same reason, I just felt I’ve done everything it had to offer. I’ll always be grateful for it since it was an excellent distraction especially for the time it came out. While I never expected them to update it indefinitely I at least understand where many people are coming from. I believe the team behind the game promised at least three years worth of updated but did not deliver, most we got was about a year and a half leaving many disappointed. At least we got the Froggy Chair back Apologies for the long comment, just wanted to share my thoughts

I'm with you about DDV. It feels dull and like such an endless chore... I almost feel obliged to constantly farm to lvl up friendships and end quest lines... It's not as much about how it runs on switch, I had bugs like twice or 3 times and I don't mind the loading screens, but I'd like to be able to try the "free PC version", if it was ever meant to be free. I could not agree more on Dreamlight Valley. As for all the microtransactions and "the game will be later". No. The game just needs to have zero micro transactions till it is free to play. As long as it is pay to play all of the "freemium" stuff should just be free for the current player base. Make them microtransactions once the game is free. For now. There is no excuse to charge so much to even play and then charge so much for cosmetics. When.It's.Early.Access. If people are paying to give you feedback, then you shouldn't be charging this egregiously for cosmetics.

I actually refunded Everdream Valley on Steam because it just didn't do a thing for me, despite it being the type of game I normally would love. I never got far enough in to get to the "dreaming" part of the game, but I wasn't having fun with it and wanted to refund it while I still could. I had Song of the Prairie on my wishlist, but I think I'll take it off the list now knowing that you and others weren't fans of that one either. As for Dreamlight Valley, I have 585 hours in the game and since I played on PC, I had zero issues with the gameplay and no bugs. You're correct that playing it on the switch was a huge mistake because the game just doesn't run well on the switch and probably never will because of the limited amount of memory available on a switch. I made the initial investment in the game and haven't paid a dime since then, yet have all the items I want or need. I'm not tempted to use up my moonstones on anything in the premium shop because I'm not a decorator (I've made only very minor changes to the look of my valley, and usually only when a quest requires that we decorate an area). I don't have FOMO, so that helps too. I log in once or twice a day between the new content releases and do some minor things while waiting for the next update (such as Vanellope coming to the game tomorrow). I also got to the point on ACNH where I felt I'd done everything there was to do, except for getting the final genuine museum pieces, so I just stopped playing it and don't really have a desire to start over with it.

Animal Crossing New Horizons I got it at half price (at a discount store) because my English students (I was living in Japan at the time), suggested it when they found out I liked Video Games. I had fun with the first playthrough, but after a while things became repetitive, also there wasn't much to do after getting the Musician to the Island. I would have loved some new dialogue and maybe even some quests, an expansion to the Island so I could have more residents (I always felt bad when I made one of them leave), or even exploring new areas. (I always seemed to get the same exact "secret Islands" every time it was frustrating after a while). As for the repetitiveness, it became more pronounced when I would catch the same fish or bug 10 times in a row and the game would pause to tell me what it is EVERY TIME. I've caught this thing 10 times already I already know what it is. I wish there was an option to shut that dialogue off or just have a small thing in the corner of the screen that doesn't pause the game say "Crab" or something so I could easily just move on to catching the next thing. I was trying to complete the collections.

DDLV gives me extreme vertigo episodes. I can’t play for longer than 30 minutes without getting dizzy and sick. Beyond that it’s just such a grind. So sad because I love Disney and was really excited for this game.

yeeeahh i bought Dreamlight and it was fun for a little while but its SO mobile gamey that its hard to play for a long time. i know its literally a mobile game but i just feel like it should feel less like that. everything takes like 2 seconds to grow which on paper seems great but its not great its so... THERE ARE SO MANY TASKS happening all the time lmao and the events arent.. too bad theyre not hard but i dont like when games force me to play every day just to make sure i dont miss out you know? its very predatory. i may go back to it just because ive spent so much money on it but i needed a long break from it for sure. i loved animal crossing so much, it came out at the exact right time. but, over time the events got very frustrating the time investment just wasnt worth it to me, and theres just... not a lot to do. oh you can invite your friends over? cool, but theres nothing to do once theyre there except show them your island. and the decorating is fun to a point, im not the type of person that wants to keep redoing the island over and over again, so that doesnt appeal to me. i got my island looking the way i wanted and then... thats it lol. i hope the next animal crossing has the stuff from new horizons but also the minigames from new leaf. its what i missed the most.

I bought Aka on the switch and I want to return it but as there is nothing wrong with it I can't get my money back. It is so boring and I had the same issues as you. It feels like a free mobile game tbh. I also have ddlv and I think I played it so much at the start that I got through everything so quickly. I regret spending the money on it and it is so buggy.

I tried the demo for Song of the Prairie a few weeks before its release and honestly I couldn't play more than 10 minutes of it. Disney Dreamlight Valley I got on gamepass and was excited about it but it just got me running around and talking to people and picking up stuff etc so much that I wasn't really enjoying it. Animal Crossing was the second game I ever bought on switch primarily because of the hype and just how much people are into it, but honestly, if you don't have pandemic-esque amounts of free time, it takes too long to get anywhere significant in the game. It became such a chore that I just gave away my copy of the game.

I loved DDLV when it first came out. And then once the nostalgia glasses came off I truthfully started to really dislike it. It's just nonstop fetch quests, incredibly grindy from the very beginning. progress is so stinted and slow that i just get frustrated and give up. FOMO has made me spend far more on a game i seldom ever play nowadays. i can get at least 15 minutes out of it before i'm exiting out and moving on to something else. it's really a shame. i don't actually mind grinding games when you feel like you're making progress. DDLV just .. it seems like you can never chip away at a neverending to-do list that they keep making increasingly more difficult to be able to even complete , and not in the fun challenging way either.

I stopped playing ACNH because I just felt so overwhelmed after getting to 3 stars. I really wanted to decorate but I suck at ideas and I felt like a lot of things have already been created. I love ACNH, and AC in general, but I always drift off after a few months. Also, I haven’t tried Everdream Valley, but seeing some gameplay & your VOD, I felt.. pretty underwhelmed lol. I’m still planning on watching more gameplay but so far it feels a bit disappointing. I know I should play it myself to really get a feel of it, but I like to watch gameplay before buying and I’m kinda glad I did for EDV. I wish I did that for Hokko Life because I regret buying it lol, it felt very, *very* sllllooooowwww… lol

Agree with everything you said about DDLV, 100%. Unfortunately Gameloft is just a greedy, money-hungry company. FOMO and micro-transactions are how they roll, and they have made it very clear that they don't care if you don't like that, because there are still plenty of people who DO pay and those are the only people that matter to them. It's unfortunate, because as you mentioned, this game is all about nostalgia and that nostalgia is being used in a predatory way. Plus yeah, so unbelievably grindy that it makes the whole game feel like a chore. I stopped playing Everdream also. The tutorial instructions are lacking or just poorly explained, the world is beautiful but ultimately lifeless, the quests are given in a confusing order (sometimes you are stuck on a quest until you progress in a quest you're not given until after), the amount of mini-games is just crazy excessive, and so many mechanics are just frustrating and unnecessarily hard (leading or herding animals made me want to rage quit every time). The biggest annoyance to me was that they didn't even finish the main story. The quests just end and you're left confused because of how incomplete it is, and some portions of the map can't even be unlocked. To me this just isn't acceptable for a game that's not in early access. I was so disappointed because it was a game I wanted to love so much, and ended up just feeling let down. P.S. Thank you for doing videos like this by the way. I wish more cozy youtubers would spend more time discussing games they didn't like, instead of ONLY hyping games up. I definitely feel like I can trust you for honest reactions to games.

I REALLY wanted to love DDV but I actually kinda hated it. Lol Everything about it was frustrating and the glitches, crashing and bugs really made it completely unplayable. It looks great and the idea is fun, but it honestly made me angry and I'm a pretty chill person in general. Lol Even thinking about playing it and that I bought the game pisses me off a little. Lol And the community to me was.... 50/50. Disney fanatics and then the rest. I am not a Disney fanatic so even being a part of a community with people who will gladly die on the Disney hill was just not my cup of tea. I even had to block the community on Reddit so I was constantly overwhelmed by the posts. Whew. 😅

As someone who plays DDLV and bought the game twice, once on switch and once on PC, the difference is night and day. I wish they would refund everyone who is unhappy with the switch version though. Because the game runs so terrible on it and now I’m out 40 bucks. And also, I do wish I knew to have my switch synced with real time when I started playing. Had to restart my whole game and lost a ton of items and progress. Luckily when I switched over to PC my starpath and premium items and code items were all still there. I bought the Ultimate PC edition on sale for like 45% off or something crazy on epic games and it’s wonderful!

I am only half abandoning DDLV. I was so excited when it came out, that even though funds were tight, I had to have the best one. Now that it’s making you pay for all the things, I only pick it up to complete the star paths. I want to play it all the way through, once it’s all out. Maybe….

Bear and Breakfast: I liked it a lot! The semantics are a lot, but once you get the gist of the game and what you need to do I really enjoyed it. After a time, you can hire characters to regulate almost everything, and this is where I stopped playing because all my inns were humming! I enjoyed the journey of this game and running a business so that all my customers were happy everything was cleaned up, everyone was fed, and the heating was regulated! I really feel that cozy feel of gaming can be in running a business, and this is what separates the game from others. These developers IMO are very innovative! PS I'm 64 y/o so maybe that's a factor! Loll

I can't get my head round why no one else seems to feel this way about DDLV!! Is it just cause everyone is simping for Disney? I really wanted to like it too but it's legit boooring. It's just a non stop grind/fetch quest and nothing of actual value! Plus I couldn't even get into decorating anything cause of the AWFUL switch controls 😭😭 I'm so gutted I paid so much for the top tier pack with all the extra bonus content like an idiot only to have not touched the game in months
