They gravitate around our rail road tracks. Very active if they’re working on the rail tracks! Usually heard 7-10pm EST. One night observed them front yard hopping & yipping. So very cool!

Thank you so much for sharing. We have dens of coyotes in the ravine behind our house. They howl every day around 3 or 4 am. Really eerie! In the evening they walk up and down our driveway and then back into the ravine. There’s also a black wolf on our street and I’ve heard there are coy dogs!

Hey Joanne! Thanks for watching. I live in the country and see them in the fields pretty regularly. I've seen one black coyote! 🐾
We have coyotes that travel a railroad spur and Milwaukrr county trail in Brown Deer. I think there is a pair using a den across from my house. They suddenly have become very vocal, maybe protecting pups this May. They came right to the edge of the trail we were walking. They ran off but circled back to the trail jumping and confronting us and making some very distressing calls using barking, chirping, and high whistle tones. It was dusk and when my dog became confrontational (he was leashed or I felt he would have taken off after them, after jumping and flipping as high as my forehead. He out weighed them by at least 30 to 40 lbs and wasn't afraid at all...More curious. We had no choice but to calmly pas them by so we could get back to my house. Two days later I went out thinking a dog was in distress, but found the coyote in a neighbor's back yard. They were even louder and making higher-pitched barks, yelps and whistles for over 15 minutes. My neighbor was out with a bright light chasing them down till I asked if he could leave them be so they could settle down since I think the had a den with pups. I have never heard them as excited as this last couple weeks. We try not to act like prey, making loud noises, and trying to look as big as possible. Strangly I wasn't scared in the least, just amazed at how much they intent they showed through their voicings. I hope I see them again. We've had 3 close encounters with wolves on the same trail as well. There are plenty of smaller animals they like to prey on. Lots of deer too, but only the larger wolf packs could take them down!

That's awesome, Sandy! I had an old property with a den site that had new pups pretty much every year! 🐾
I ❤coyotes! I try and record the local coyote pack's vocalizations as much as I can. My channel is pretty much dedicated to recording, observing, and documenting the local wildlife. Btw you have a new sub. 🐺🐾

Im in NC. There is a group living in the forest behind ny house. They woke me up last night yipping and howling. It scares me everytime. I shined/shone a strong flashlight down in the woods and it stopped immediately. Does that mean mean they are close?

Hey Angie! They are usually a few miles away when you hear them, however, that's not always the case. If the light got their attention, they could be closer. Thanks for watching! 🐾

Can they sound like a baby crying or a cat in heat? We have one here and I think he/she was having a fit last night or was hurt

Hey Carol, this is mating season for them, which is when they are most vocal. It's possible that's all that it was. Their yelping can definitely sound cat-like at times. 🐾 Mountain lions and bobcats can also make similar sounds.
