"and when I'm close to you - I swear I could die" Beautiful simplistic line that I interpret in three ways - When Spike is with Julia, he feels such a sense of perfection and fulfillment that he can die happily in that moment if he has to - When Spike sees Viscious, he feels such rage and contempt that he's willing to end both their lives right there at that moment - When Spike is out with Faye on their rampages, he swears he could die at any given moment on account of his mortality

I want to thank you, Sapphire, for making this cover. Recently, a friend of mine passed away, and Cowboy Bebop was his all-time favorite anime. Incidentally, the English lyrics for The Real Folk Blues you used and the way you performed the vocals for it really conveyed how I was feeling while mourning him -- almost precisely. You're incredibly talented, and I wanted you to know that this song helped me deal with the pain over losing a good friend of mine. So, once again: thank you.

+Stormocity Something similar to happened to me. A close friend of mine absolutely loved this anime, and was actually his favorite anime of all time. Sadly, he killed himself a few years back, and its been really hard on my family and myself. Whenever I hear this song, I always think back to my friend. I always play this song for rainy days or when it was the end of the school year when I turn around and reflect on all the memories I had of first coming in the school. The friends we made, the stupid things that we do after school and planning what to do for tomorrow. Until the end of senior year hits, the final bell rings and everyone is heading towards the bus loop eager to leave, you turn around at the school one last time "Thank you, for all that you've done for us." Playing this song with a big sigh and walk home without ever looking back.

From all the English covers of Japanese anime songs I've heard, I gotta say, I like this one the best. Then again, I'm a huge sucker for blues and jazz. I just really REALLY wish this was the full version of the song, but I understand that doing that might require more work than you're willing to put towards this song, and I can respect that. Thank you all who worked on this piece. It's better to have this much than nothing at all.

Agreed. Even though the English lyrics (understandably) don't match the Japanese lyrics, I myself had never considered making up my own, and these were amazing. I only wish that I myself had had even the smallest part in crafting a verse, these were a perfect substitute since I'm too lazy to learn Japanese.

This song speaks a lot to me and gets me thinking about life, in a lot of ways. And so does your cover of it, capturing the exact same sensation though this one gives its own touch to it all. Amazingly done.

Man, I never thought a song could make me cry but damn…

You don't know how much this cover, and by extension these lyrics mean to me. A couple of weeks ago the girl I've loved for the past 2 years broke my heart; she couldn't handle me going to college and leaving her behind, even though we already planned the long distance relationship. So here I am, depressed, browsing the internet in the early morning and listening to music. I started listening to some Nujabes, as his music always helps me clear my thoughts. As I'm listening, I make a meager resolve to myself to start living again. Nujabes leads to general Samurai Champloo music, which leads to Cowboy Bebop music, which eventually led me to your cover. And as I listened, and listened carefully to the lyrics, my goodness. All this emotion I've had over these past two weeks just pours out. So now, that meager resolve? It's a full-on resolution now. It's time for me to live like I'm alive. So thank you Sapphire, you have no idea how much this means to me. The subscription is the least I can do.

This is amazing... I too would love to hear a full version but god the way you deliver it is both relatable and enthralling. I think there is a dignified pain and desperate inspiration in the lyrics and heart of the song and I believe and you convey all of that perfectly. Been a couple years since I played this last but I'll go for an encore.

Best five years of my life. Now it's like coming down from the worst high. You grow up and realize what this song is really about, and you wish so hard that you never did....

This song is like some 20 year old self-fulfilling prophecy I never took the time to translate. I've always loved the song but never took the time to look up the lyrics, the sadness was always easy enough to understand. It's like a slap in the face all these years later.

"Whatever happens, happens"_ Spikes Spiegel This is one of my favorite anime's of all time. Each episode teaches us a lesson. Jeffrey Ash in my case i had just arrived to a new country. didn't speak a word of english and would watch it because i loved the looks of the characters and the whole space concept without understanding a word i would imagine my own script of what they were saying and just love the action of the stories. how spike would just be a smooth handsome looking badass

Yup I remember staying up late to watch this on the anime channel on sky in 2008. Still love the music now and I'm lucky to be in a relationship with a fan. Shame is I think I love the show more than he does.

I've seriously been hitting this in my hard times for soo many years now. Yet again here I am.

I have waited 20 years for someone to do an English cover of this song. And, of course, it would be my favorite Jazz singer, Sapphire.

Thats what I think to with every song I start liking thanks to anime, and I'm super thankful that some really amazing singers can give us English covers of these songs. To be fair though, some Japanese songs are easy to learn, like Dango Daizoku from Clannad, but then you have either songs like Guren no Yumia which is really hard because it's a mixture of both Japanese and German, and then you have some anime that have English openings and endings, most being Pokemon, but then you have Wolfs Rain's opening and ending both of which are in English. But then again the music for Wolfs Rain was done by Yoko Kano, who funnily enough does the music for Cowboy Bebop as well, so...yeah :D

I must’ve listened to that cover a hundred times but strangely enough, every time i listen to it, it only gets better and better. There was so much emotions in the Japanese lyrics, but the english cover made it even more emotional. You did an amazing job with the cover!
