I agree a cultivator would help that corn field for sure , get some oxygen in there plus weed controll

What was old is new again, I too am thinking about cultivation. I like the idea of Y drop, so if I can knock out some weeks and and cover up my N in one pass, I would say thats a pretty good deal.

Did we get more rain than this in 2020? I’m in Stillwater Mn. 2020 was overshadowed by the plandemic and a felon dying. I remember the lake next to the old farm I have storage on was at least 5 feet higher than now as it has no outlet.

I have considered row crop cultivation myself, it will increase your erggs. Basically the electricity in the soil. Google a ergg. It a unit measurment of energy beijg released in the soil. Whatever you do, and you will be tempted just dont row crop cultivate it too wet, just a lil damp and i think itll help you a ton on your row crops. If you need to spray anything id do that first then let the herbicide work then gocget your erggs going. The best time of year to till the soil is when your getting heat units.

The beans have been very slow this year... having to start some in-crop spraying for them, but hate having to spray too soon waiting on that canopy. I think that one wet bean field you got should be ok as long as it does have some growing days; seeing a few of them close to popping through they should make it. Corn has been shooting up last week.

We did get a few days of sun and now you can see the rows. Things are kind of looking better by the day. Slowly but getting better

I have absolutely had wonderful results with mob grazing. I would bet you can make your paddocks smaller yet. Since I graze my sheep instead of cattle it's actually more labor in the fencing. I try to set the paddocks up for the week using electronet. They will eat off about everything, from thistles to burdock. If they eat it, it's not a weed, it's a forage. I would say my pasture has doubled what it was producing as a fertilized grass hay field without using fertilizer on it anymore. If you worked that corn field, hitting it with a cultivator will really make it take off and I bet you'll have a better stand with your cover crop.

Thank you for the good post I cannot cover crop this summer in the corn because I ended up using atrazine to try and knock back the weeds since we couldn't get out early like we normally do. The cover crops will have to wait until this fall

Grandpa lived through the 30s and many other dry times. He said you always cultivate through a drought Scientists today will tell us that by cultivating there's some sort of capillary action that brings moisture up
