You need a roof over that outside stairway to keep the water from cascading down during a heavy rain. With straw under that dirt floor you want to keep as much moisture out of there as possible.

Probably part of whatever the house-plans are … especially since the original second dome (now scrapped) was supposed to connect to the house dome as well. Hopefully they will get that tight during the dry winter season, and be ready for the spring rains.

Yeah, I got an almost full 40 lb. tank for $30.00 on FB, and I discovered the Flame King 1 lb. tank while looking for fittings for my camp stove. I've been refilling the thing for almost 3 years off the same tank! And when I need to, I can get the 40 lb. one refilled at Costco for next to nothing!👍🏻

That blaze king setup definitely looks like a lot safer setup than refilling the Coleman canister's that state Non-refillable. I think it's was a good call Jim.

Good info! Plus there are almost no place to recycle Coleman tanks and should never be thrown into trash. National news just had big report and investigation. Companies that produce Non Refillable tanks should be made accountable for recycling too.

I have friends that used old pallet wood for a hard wood floor, it's beautiful. Merry Christmas 🤶

Coghill farm used the pallet wood for the walls of their milk room and it turned out so cool

Yes yes to a house plans video- perfect topic for transitioning into the new year.

My group used walkie-talkies skiing. It was a great way for everyone to ski their favorite slopes without losing contact. Especially for the younger people, they could be reached by their meal tickets to get everybody together to share stories over lunch and dinner. I was tickled to see you have gotten them too. Very smart.

Basically you built a basement that you call a root cellar. Since you plan on building on top of your root cellar ceiling that will be called ground level or 1 story. You 2 are doing great. Happy Holidays to both of you & your brother.

They have a basement bedroom in the dome. They might not be putting a whole story over it (most root cellars are actually under a mound of dirt to help with the whole maintaining energy density coverage) but they do call it a (root) cellar, so … similar linguistics.

@@nela9994 Well if they plan on putting any dirt on top of the partical board then they will need to lay down a sheet of thick plastic before the dirt.

Now you need to tape the seams in that floor/roof with 6" wide aluminum tape to keep water from dripping in.

Yes, on the overall plan. Love your channel! I'd venture to say I'm one of your original subs. It seems like at the completion rate that you're going...you'll be in the camper another 5+ years. Again, huge fan! Not trying to be "that guy"

I've been envisioning some sort of a greenhouse over the cellar as you progressed with the build, glad to hear that you have a plan to enclose it with something, can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve, all the best for the new year!

Happy Holidayz. Reiterate from earlier. A few of us suggested a drain at the bottom of the stairs. Just some rocks in a hole or more elaborate. I just think water will collect in places with nowhere to go. Anyway, love to see your progress.

Best to eliminate water getting to the cellar in the first place. A LOT of work was put into rebuilding the first one. That staircase will serve as a chute for water to fill it.

The radios are very handy. My wife and I carry them all the time around our place. Great suggestion!

Technically, it should never be “over and out” either your message is “over” and you are waiting on a response, or you are “out” and not waiting. It’s for non-duplex communications, because, the way that they work, with the push to talk is that it can’t send and receive at the same time, so, if you are talking, you can’t hear what anyone else is saying at that time. You might also want to start your radio interaction with a “CQ” announcing who you are, and ask if anyone is listening, or otherwise using that channel. It’s polite.

The roof/floor should be 3/4” Tung and groove OSB/plywood. I personally would also glue it to the joists.

Thanks for showing the refillable option. I wasn't aware that it was available. I am definitely curious about the continued build. I may have missed the episode that would have explained if the very top treatment of the first dome will be continued down to the ridge, or left as is.
