The Coverbuddy is a necessity for me as an MBA student that writes my lecture notes I pop it off and use my pencil. When I need to start typing an essay for example it pops back on. No weight complaints from me and I know my pencil is safe and not at the bottom of my bag 🤗 I wish I had this in nursing school. 🙄

The big point of this for me is the Apple Pencil. Period. I like having the Apple Pencil always available and charged because I tend to use it more. But I also like the Smart Keyboard/Magic Keyboard and was not comfortable with just sticking the pencil on top of the iPad, unprotected. Also - I read a lot of magazines on the iPad so take it out of the case, but didn’t like doing so unprotected. The CoverBuddy solves this problem. Thanks for the review.

I just found your channel and I like what I have seen so far. You got a new sub. A family member bought one of these and I thought it was a bit pointless. But I was never fully comfortable with the pencil sitting on top unprotected and I was not wild about stuffing it in a bag. I tend to use it heavily when I am away from home, going back and forth between painting in Procreate and doing the responsible adult / working thing on the keyboard. Some days, I need it on there charging as much as possible. One day I knocked the pencil off the iPad four times. I ordered the CoverBuddy between drops 3 and 4. For my use patterns, it's ideal. It protects the Apple Pencil and when I pop the iPad of the Magic Keyboard off to do some painting, it's not completely naked. I've had no issues plugging anything in, so I guess I have the 'improved' version. Next project - SopiGuard skin. Your reactions in the video on removing it convinced me I want one LoL

Just came across this video after using the cover buddy for sometime. Pros: Protect the Apple Pencil; Cons: make it harder to charge my iPad through the main port! I also happen to have the Apple Watch Charger from Satechi in which Coverbuddy prevents the charger from working even with the slim design...

Hi Jerry! Great video! I had bought one of these a few months back and returned it. I had trouble with external components like my usb hub connecting due to the cover buddy’s usb opening is too small. Lastly I felt the same with regard to value. Too expensive for what it is. Just put a good skin on the magic keyboard and that should suffice! Take care & be safe... P

I switch between keyboard and pencil use often so I was basically forced to purchase this case, as there isn’t an alternative case that works with Magic Keyboard. It’s like a $60 plastic cover. Dbrand skin probably would do the same thing, just protect the back from scratches but I didn’t think of it.

I have had to return 2 of these covers for my iPad Pro 11” as the pass through pins failed (different pins on each cover). Such a shame as the idea is great, I just think they need to re-engineer the pins design to avoid the failures. Update: Since they’ve supposedly released new versions of the CoverBuddy I’ve decided to give it one more go, so ordered a new one from Amazon, and after giving it a thorough inspection, I reckon this one might be OK. I’ll let you know if I get the same problem again!

Quality on this sucked. I tried 2 of them. Both had quality control issues. Them being too small to seat was the issue. Couldn’t fully attach to the iPad. They honored the warranty and accepted both back. After that I gave up, got the iPad Magic Keyboard, and an attachment from ETSY that I epoxied on . It guard the pen well and doesn’t budge. It’s pretty much the way Apple should have made it. Currently testing the BRYDGE 12.9 MAX+.

The pitaka magnetic aramid fiber case is so much better than the switcheasy case. My switcheasy didn’t line up great and the corner broke within a couple days. The pitaka feels superior in every way, except it doesn’t have the pencil holder. The pencil still sticks but it’s not secure like the switcheasy. But I’m ok with that to have a far better build quality.

Coverbuddy owner here. Def worth for me. As a student, who takes it off the MK a lot to write notes or do math equations, its def a must. the left side of the iPad is still not protected by the case. Will def recommend getting a Dbrand skin or Sopiguard for the iPad itself if you’re worried about damaging that exposed area. Coverbuddy regarding Amazon, has been getting the “PS4 controller” treatment. Would def recommend that you order from the original site. Not saying everyone who orders it from amazon has this problem, but some of the items at times are faulty and there have been a lot of complaints about how the three magnets on the case will fall out and get lost. This will cause your iPad to not detect the MK and will display the “accessory is not supported” message. It’s always safer to order from the original seller, as its freshly made and checked by them and just overall less risky. However, Amazon’s return policy compared to theirs is def better and more forgiving.

Feels like half the product I need. When the ipad is in the magic keyboard it is pretty well protected by the keyboard itself - this doesn’t provide a great deal more. What I want is to be able to grab the pad off the keyboard and have some protection while using it ‘naked’, but this is just doesn’t do it because a whole quarter of the edges are completely bare! This is just a glorified pencil holder with added volume button obstacle.

Honestly with a quarter of the iPad left unprotected you'd be better off getting a skin. I like the idea, I like how thin and lightweight it is, but it still leaves your iPad unprotected for a good chunk of space. I know they left that unprotected because for it to work with the Smart Keyboard, but that means your iPad is only 70% protected, they need to make one that's fully protected to work with the magic keyboard. They need to make a new version that you know... protects the iPad.

  • @JerrySchulze

I think someone needs to decide if they want to wrap it in a big cushioned case or use it with a keyboard case. If you want more protection probably need to look at logitech if you have the 11”.

@@JerrySchulze yea, however the coverbuddy has good things, it's lightweight, wont protect much on falls but will definitely save you if it lands on the plastic somewhat but for scratches it'll definitely do its job. The problem is that it's not protecting a whole side of the iPad, from scratches OR falls. You buy that product so you can use your iPad without the keyboard when needed so you can use it more confidently, with a whole side unprotected this makes this product horrible and a fail.
