Coventry's ring road is pure chaos

Have you ever driven the Coventry Ring Road? There's nothing else like it in the world. A tight circular racetrack surrounds the city centre with junctions so close together there's only a few seconds for traffic to get on and off.
Travel back in time to 16 October 2004, and take two laps of the whole circuit - once clockwise and then again anticlockwise. The road has changed since this was filmed, with junction 6 rebuilt and lots of new electronic signs everywhere.
Our long read on the Coventry Ring Road: www.roads.org.uk/articles/cov...
With thanks to Steven Jukes for driving!

What a weaving nightmare especially on the anticlockwise direction!

As chaotic as it looks (and it is), it's amazing how surprisingly well it works. Lived there for four years as a student, and after the first couple of encounters you end up instinctively weaving between traffic as second nature. There's almost an unspoken language between all drivers of the ring road where everyone acknowledges how crazy it is, and therefore keeps an eye out for each other when merging etc.

You're right, it could be carnage but it's not - it works incredibly well. Without a doubt one of my favourite roads in all the world!

Driven that one many times, including in both Double and Single Decker buses! Always interesting merging on and off when your vehicle takes up around half the length of the weave section (and yes, that's the proper term for the junctions on the Cov R.R)

Yes, lots of fun in a car but probably requires a certain amount of bravery in a bus!

I remember when Bryn Buck did a fantastic video on this odd piece of infrastructure, im now thinking that at least this road wasn't that destructive compared to ringroads such as the M25 or the M60

I think there was a fair bit of demolition, but so much of Coventry had to be rebuilt it wasn't as bad as many other urban roads in that respect
